[BOOK SPOILERS] Crazy theory about Quentyn Martell

(To start with I apologise if this doesn't warrant a new topic; I'm still kind of not sure on Westeros's posting rules.)

I posted this on WiC's season 4 predictions thread, but I'm kind of looking for (in)validation at the moment so I want to ask all of you guys here. I have a crazy fan theory that either Grey Worm or Daario Naharis is actually Quentyn Martell, waiting for the right time to reveal himself to Daenerys. I think Grey Worm would have a much stronger case since he seemingly came out of nowhere and suddenly was an important cast member.

Quentyn's role in the books with regard to the plot is not particularly major apart from his reports to Daenerys and being the leader of the Unsullied. In addition to that, GW already has a convincingly Dornish appearance (which would also also mean yay! coloured actors playing coloured parts!). I'm including Daario in this because, well, I can't really rule him out, aside from the fact that him being Quentyn Martell is a lot less plausible.

I think it makes sense from a production standpoint as well--while Quentyn's actual effect in the books is very small, it was important to have him there to show that Dorne wasn't doing anything and to get Dany's dragons out of the dungeon. The TV show is already full to the brim with characters, and having to add in a new character with his own storyline would be costly in both money and time. If Quentyn Martell has been fused with another character, it means that such a storyline/character doesn't have to be introduced and Quentyn can be someone that the audience is already familiar with--and likes, I might add, after his little show in Yunkai.

In terms of making better TV, it would make him a sort of "surrogate" for Arstan Whitebeard. Since the whole Selmy-reveal was impossible to pull off in the show, we can have that "moment" back with this theory. It would also be quite a twist for book readers since no one's suspecting a thing from him.

Obviously this would be a huge departure from the books, but by now we're not strangers to this stuff. In my opinion, this would be a reasonably good streamlining of the plot.

So how about it, guys? Am I crazy? Or is there a chance that this could be true? Shoot me down! I need to get my hopes dashed!

I think it's quite crazy.

They are both established characters in teh book. Daario is Daario and book readers know where that is going - and that totally goes against Quentyn and Dany's relationship in the book.

Greyworm is the Unsullied commander - he's there to represent the Unsullied on tv.

From reading other threads the opinion is that Quentyn is more likely to be cut than anything. I think he'll be included in a more seemless way than the books did, following on very obviously from the Dorne plot, and won't be rejected by the audience. The audience probably won't care either but such is life.

It is more likely the tv audience will reject the entire Dorne plot as another tangent of the storyline. However, with the end of Dragonstone as a storyline 'island' then I think D&D can pull off Dorne as a new isolated island.

I think Grey Worm would have a much stronger case since he seemingly came out of nowhere and suddenly was an important cast member.

Daario and Grey Worm both have important roles to play though, as Lannister Hamster said. It just wouldn't be viable for one of them to be Quentyn - if it turned out to be Daario, that would throw a spanner in the Daario plotline, and if it turned out to be Grey Worm, the Unsullied would suddenly lack a commander. If it was GW, it would also diminish the effect of some of his previous conversations with Dany in the show.

If your theory is going anywhere, I think it would sound a lot more plausible if instead the Quentyn "role" was fulfilled by Daario (or another of Dany's companions), rather than him literally being Quentyn undercover... i.e. somebody tries to woo Dany and has some mishaps with the dragons.

But killing off Daario in place of Quentyn would also cause a lot of plot problems, I think... and moreover I think the contrast between Quentyn (or a Quentyn-like figure) and Daario is important in illustrating the conflicts Dany faces when it comes to love and alliances. I suppose that could also be demonstrated by her marriage to Hizdahr zo Loraq, though.

From reading other threads the opinion is that Quentyn is more likely to be cut than anything.

I think he might end up being cut, but if he is, it'd be nice if he's mentioned in passing when the Dorne storyline comes into focus. Something like "... and we sent Quentyn to marry her, but he never returned!". With better wording though, obviously.

Yeah this theory is really screwed up.

HOWEVER given that Quentyn's actual impact on the overall story was next to nil (his only contribution being that he freed the dragons), it's always possible that Daario could end up being the one who frees the dragons (though still very unlikely), so there's that.

I doubt Grey Worm will have an actual meaningful role. He's meant to be a minor character. He's lucky he was even named as a lot of minor characters go unnamed on the show (Karl anyone?)

He doesn't look like Quentyn at all.

Quentyn's mother is from Norvos and Doran is not so dark.

If you work under the assumption that daario is either going to be killed as a hostage or catch the pale mare then its not all that big a shift. it makes the martells look all the more devious and the love affair all the more tragic. daario having been ensconced in the sellsword company and with two accomplice from home to back his play when he took over. hes much more the red vipers nephew than dorans foolish son this way. not a bad idea though I don't think it happens

No

Generally speaking as well, while there will be twists and turns I think people are often getting ott with the character x is really character y thing

There times where this is the case, but it is spelt out quite obviously for plot reasons, eg Rattleshit = Mance so they can burn him without burning him, Mance = Abel, Varys = Rugen so he can access areas etc, Barristan is Arristan. There is a fair amount of obviousness or a projection of them being in costume, eg Barristan being straightforward for a squire or Mance ranting during the burning which he wouldn't do, same with Quentyn and friends being common sellswords

Most people will generally be who they pretend to be, I don't think we'll get any wild Daario is either Euron or Benjen type twists which over stretch people's comprehension or in this case Quentyn is Greyworm

What everyone said. Besides, Grey Worm doesn't speak the Common Tongue at the beginning of the series and is by far from fluent at it now. Quentyn would have to be a helluva actor to pull that one.

Other than that: he'd have to somehow infiltrate the Unsullied in Astapor without anybody noticing (and be good enough to pass as one) hoping that Danny will go there one day and decides to buy him. Doran's plan to send Quentyn to Danny didn't make much sense in the books and the chances he won't get killed on the way or rejected by Danny were very slim, but what you are proposing is another level of extremely improbable.
