Small Questions v 10011

Outstanding question, from Ordos:

Iwan Rheon who plays Ramsay in an interview described how he had to eat a lot of sausage during the final Theon scene in episode 10 of season 3. But I noticed he only took two bites. How many takes did they make for that scene? OR Did they do alternate takes where he eats more?

[Technically this is a GoT small question and there is a small questions thread in the GoT section]

What was the name of the Kingsguard member who died on the battlefield an hour after being named Lord Commander?

Are you referring to this passage?

Their tales are in the book. Rolland Darklyn is in here too. The youngest man ever to serve in the Kingsguard, until me. He was given his cloak on a battlefield and died within an hour of donning it.

Though he was never LC, he was KG for an hour.

Why aren't there more numbers at the Nights Watch?

If it's a get out clause from Jail or having your head removed, surely after two rebellions in 15(?) years there should be a brave number of people caught looting, thievery etc never mind the plain old fashioned treason who would have took the black rather than the alternatives.

Dark wings, dark words.

Are these words the motto of a Westeros House?

What is the House motto of Blackwood?

No

"The Old Gods Hear You", according to TV show, never mentioned in books but it is likely the producers asked GRRM

Is heraldry used in Essos? Wildlings don't use it and most of Essos seems to be plutocratic or even pseudo-democratic, but there is some nobility in certain locations, such as Slaver's bay, so do they use heradry?

Thanks. I just found a site that says the Blackwood motto is 'Messengers of the Gods.' Though I don't know where they got it from.

@ newstar "I've seen a few people claim that GRRM has said he would never write a POV character being raped in this series (or words to that effect). Does anyone have a source for this?"

take it you are trying to work out if the shock regarding sansa is going to involve her being raped? good question :)

bump for newstat does anybody have a source?

Criminals aren't always given the choice. Imagine someone like Randall Tarly catches a poacher or thief it's a lot easier to hang them then arrange an escort to see them to The Wall. (Jamie even remarks on what a pain it is when those two men at Riverrun want to take the black) Most of the southerners see the Night's Watch as a joke or protecting the north from Wildlings who are probably never going to be a threat to them.

Not to my knowledge. We know the Targaryen's created their three headed dragon sigil either after, just before, or during the conquest which suggests that Valyrian families didn't have them. Since most of the free cities are former Valyrian colonies I sorta doubt they use them either.

Cheers I must have picked it up wrong. I thought Luwin Told Theon that if he asked Rodrik must let him take the black. Thinking it was a law as such.

I think it's a matter of custom in The North that the honorable thing to do is let them take the black. Less so in the south I think.

Well the Ghiscari have the Harpy don't they? I don't know about anywhere else, though if the Braavosi have one it's probably the Titan.

What's more heinous Sansa getting raped or Jojen getting butchered?

Lots of possible answers. Those who were caught and jailed possibly died in the dungeon due to sickness, starvation, dehydration, suicide, or torture, unless some escaped; while those who were sent to the Wall maybe died, got lost, turned cloak, or run away during one of their ranging.

Something I didn't realise until I read the Slynt thread was that Twyin gave Thorne the option after defending Kings landing. Which would suggest Twyin at least was giving people the option after RR, unless Thorne was a special exception for some reason. :dunno:

Depending on your definition of heraldry, sure, there are several instances in Essos:

- someone mentioned the Harpy

- there's also the elephant and the tiger for the Volantene triarch

- most, if not all the sellsword companies in Essos have heraldry (sure, many techically are Westerosi by origin, but they are in Essos).
