Goodkind 53: We Don't Need No Stinking Magic!

Would Gluten be a healthy part of a War Wizard diet?

Sure, War Wizards are not stupid hippies, they'll eat anything. Though a War Wizard's diet should consist of about 98% red meat. This has the benefit of sharpening their bloodlust, though it also has the minor drawback of making their poops smell really bad.

Someone should tell Tairy that Bakker ripped off the concept of a War Wizard with Gnostic Dunyain (obviously Tairy would never have chosen death by reading Bakker of His own accord). Bakker needs to learn that there are Rules, after all.

no doubt there. a favorite refrain of rand and peikoff is "I have not read nor do I intend to read that book," typically referring to criticisms of their positions and leftwing death choosing.

Actually I think my favourite part of this new book release is the emotional blackmail at the signing. Leave me good reviews and maybe your favourite characters will be saved! Clap if you believe in fairies! Applaud and I will play an encore! Sad and desperate.

What ever happened to his deal with Penguin? We still getting 2 more "non fantasy" books from him. The one about the guy with the devil locked in his basement?

I too wonder this. He dropped that tantalizing first line on us like 5 years ago, or something.

I could see Tairy quite able to convince himself that the only reason he would get a negative review would be envy (aka "choosing death") on the part of the reviewer. The stupid reviewer doesn't have the skill, the temperament, the testicular fortitude, etc..to craft great works like him, so the only thing they know how to do is try to bring him down. It's almost a cult-like belief in himself to the point that any and all criticism are somehow invalid.

Hasn't he already said something of the sort in one of those wacky interviews of his? Something about people "wanting to destroy art" and "throwing bricks through windows?"

Oh, I'm sure. And the throwing bricks through windows was probably some attempt to say that critics of his work are the jackbooted thugs of Commies and Nazis.

It took some time to relocate the quote, but here it is: ( https://web.archive.org/web/20080317192539/http://www.inchoatus.com/Critical%20Essays/Essay--Goodkind%27s%20Rant.htm )

Question: Lately I've found myself in many arguments defending your books against 'fans' who say they used to like your books but no longer do to the extent that they used to. Would you mind settling some debates by answering the Question: What, if anything do you have to say to the people that voice the opinion that you're latest four books haven't been as good as the previous four and call them "too preachy"?

Answer: Don't be fooled. The assertion made by these detractors is a note wrapped around a brick thrown through the window. These people are not fans. There are hundreds if not thousands of fantasy books that fulfill their professed taste in books. Why would they continue to read books they claim are bad? Because they hate that my novels exists. Values arouse hatred in these people. Their goal is not to enjoy life, but to destroy that which is good -much like a school child who does not wish to study for a test and instead beats up a classmate who does well. These people hate what is good because it is good. Their lives are limited to loathing and indifference. It isn't that they want to read a good book, what they want is to make sure that you do not. Ignore them.

My pardon, it wasn't "destroy art" but "DESTROY THAT WHICH IS GOOD." See? You're evil if you dare criticize his work.

Also:

My true fans have chosen to think, to embrace all that life is.

So the death-choosing by his critics is implied.

the 'hatred of the good because it is the good' bit is directly quoted from ayn rand. when she used the term, however, it concerned alleged socialist hatred of capitalism, which confrontation placed as stakes the entire world. I disagree with her, of course, but her argument is not trifling, nor is its object picayune. his use of the quotation by contrast focuses very plainly on his own micro-disputes with aggrieved readers.

It has not failed to occur to me that if Rand were alive today, she'd probably find Badmean to be an embarrassment. I've met a few people who have referred to his work as, and I quote, "Crap with a quick coat of preschool-level Objectivism slapped on as an afterthought."

To be fair, Rand used the same argument to dismiss the criticism of her own fiction. Hell, there's even a book critic character in The Fountainhead whose stated goal is to praise the mediocre in order to trivialize the genuinely good. I guess as Objectivists Terry and Ayn are privy to objective truth, an therefore know without doubt that their novels are objectively good.

Well obviously! Some truths are objective and we should collate a list of objective truths according to His Holy the Yeard:

Every noble goat knows it is noble.

Every evil chicken who is not a chicken knows it is an evil chicken who is not a chicken.

Every vegetarian is wrong.

Every pacifist is evil and deserves to be slaughtered. (By Richard ROARHL)

Every "evil" six year old deserves to have their jaw kicked off.

Every guard, anywhere, cannot guard whatever he is guarding is he sees breasts.

Every woman everywhere (even crazy, sadistic, torturing lesbians) will love Richard ROARHL eventually.

Every person who fails to recognise SoT for what it is just does not have the moral celerity.

I can see how that can go both ways, but I would have assumed that that was some manner of metaphorical parallel for the redistribution of wealth.
