What if Jon Snow came to Robb?

Recommended Posts

This is my first post on this forum, so this will also be my introduction post. I am the sword in the darkness, I am the ugliest watcher on the walls. Just kidding; my name is Erik and I come from Croatia. It is a very beautiful country. I hope I'll have a good time on this forum.

So, back to the topic. As any reader of A Game of Thrones knows, in his last chapter Jon tried to desert the Watch and join his brother, currently in the Riverrun, but his friends followed him, and then brought him to the Wall and The Old Bear late convinced him to stay.

So, what do you think would happen if his friends didn't find him? First of all, would he even make to Riverrun? He could easily be beheaded for deserting. If he made to Riverrun, what would happen? Would Cat be very angry, would Robb welcome him or be angry too because of desertion?

I'll post my theories later. Hope you like the topic.

Since this is only AGOT still reading section, I guess he'll get beheaded because death is the punishment for desertion (he already took his vow, so yeah) and his friends also told him he'll die if he'll go. He'll miss ranging beyond the Wall, too.

If he made to Riverrun, some people will surely see him as a deserter. Robb will probably have mixed feeling upon seeing him: happy to see his brother and conflicted coz Jon deserted and he might need to impose a punishment on him. Cat, otoh, won't be very happy of course.

I don't think he would make it to Riverrun. He would probably stop at Winterfell to see Bran and Rickon and to get supplies and Ser Rodrick would throw him in the dungeons and wait for Robb to decide what to do with him.

Spoilers from ACOK and ASOS:

Then when Theon takes Winterfell and his men bring Jon and Ramsay out of the dungeons, Jon refuses to bend the knee to Theon. I don't think Theon would kill him, but Bran would probably free him. What happens after that, I don't know. He might travel with Osha and Rickon or he might go south. I suspect he would go south to warn Robb of the Boltons and tell him that Bran and Rickon are alive. If he gets there before the RW (not really easy considering that he doesn't have a horse and the Ironborn are holding Moat Cailin), the RW might have been prevented. If not, who knows. He might return to Winterfell or he might try and find Arya.

Well, Robb would find himself forced to give Jon the deserters's punishment, and do it himself as his father taught him. He would be really sad, but he would have to do it. Maybe he would grant Jon his last wish, and let him fight by his side, and behead him when the war was done. I had thought about it before, and it could have happened. Robb could have hidden Jon and sent him back to the Wall to save him too.

its really to early to tell whether or not Robb would kill Jon for deserting. Robb hasnt gone into much of a battle yet so hes still pretty 'green'. His bannerman made him king of the north and Jon is his closest brother/friend. I feel he'd give him a pardon and Jon would become Robbs 'Hand' as they go into battle instead of Theon. Things would be a lot different.
