Suggested methods of reread for ASOIAF

So, I finished book five about 4 weeks ago, and am chomping at the bit for the next book. Season 3 isn't on DVD yet, so the only logical course of action at this point is to do a reread and a rewatch of what is currently available to me. Naturally, I am re-watching the show in order, but I was wondering what order everyone found the most fulfilling for their rereads, chapter wise.

I've heard some people pick characters and read through the entire series with just their chapters, and then move on to another character, and I've also read of people combining the last two books into one mega-book.

What method of reread did you all tend to enjoy? What sort of insights did it give you? And, if you are feeling particularly charitable, can you post the numbered chapter orders and character names that you used in your reread so I may give it a try?

I have a feeling, based off of the way the books are organized, that each different method is going to bring new details to light and make it a completely different series. Depending on how long it takes GRRM to come out with the next book, I may well have time to try them all :)

I've done a bunch of single character arcs, which I really like.

But I recently did an "All North DwD" arc-- Jon, Reek, Davos, Asha, Mel in their book order--and this was by far my favorite combination (I left out Bran-- I was looking at politics). I highly recommend this combo.

The one thing I have learned on the Jon Snow reread thread, and masters of reread section is that, in most cases, you need the focus on something. Some focus on certain character, certain storyline, a motif. It could be anything, but, unless you want to start all over again, from cover to cover, I would suggest using the method bumps suggested. Take a storyline or character and explore what might interests you...

I agree when I wanted to know more about Volantis I read Tyrion and Quentyn chapters until they left.

You can choose one character and read only his/her chapters, so you can really know how he/she sees what's happening, or what he/she isn't aware of.

Or you can choose one storyline (like the Iron Islands's, Dorne's, The Wall and what's beyond it) and read only the chapters related to it. Finally, if you have some favorite characters you can reread their chapters alone, skipping those which don't interest you so much.

I took a break and read some other things, but when I came back to it I re-read 1-3 and am now in the process of reading ADWD and AFFC in parallel. It's AWESOME! Highly recommended, though I do admit that I'm doing it more 'ad-hoc', meaning I'll read a few chapters from one, switch to the other, then back, and then if I get too far in one book vs the other, read the other for a while until it is sufficiently 'ahead' given the hints in each about where the other book is(Jon/Sam, Cersei/Davos, Theon/KL, etc...). HIGHLY enjoyable re-read, though I admit that the first three books were better the 2nd time as well.
