Rhaegar Jaime Tyrell
HiMy first starting post.I know Martin wanted to make the series a trilogy, then 5 and hopefully finishes in 7. So was Aegon part of the original series or just added in later books as a twist and to expand the story.Knowing this will change my understanding of the books. hecameburning
When it first happened I thought it was just a stupid twist he added. But upon rereads and further thinking I have to believe he had this idea from very early. There are too many mentions of Clegane dashing his head on the floor/wall for it not to be brought up later ala Aegon. Also I think he is real. I do not think Tyrion would have figured it out if Aegon was truly a fake.
protar
I'm certain it was always part of the plan. If you believe the theories about Aegon being a fake (as I do), you can see the Mummer's Dragon vision from the HoTU as a hint. So he was planned at least as far back as COK and probably before even that.
Catastrophe
Wasn't there some interview where he admitted to the possibility of Aegon being alive, way back in 2000 or so? That and the vision in the House of the Undying make it pretty clear he was planning it from the start.
Rhaegar Jaime Tyrell
Thanks guys, i hated lost tv series, when they made it up as they went along. All their clues and hints were meaningless. But i really hope asoiaf is planned out. I think george is a genius to have created such a coherent and rich world. Raios de sol
I think Martin thought of him since the beginning. But why would be Aegon be fake? I don't get it...

Since this is the "Stll reading" section, I suggest you to browse the General ASoIaF forum once you're done and have a look at some theories forumers came up with. you can see the Mummer's Dragon vision from the HoTU as a hint I agree with this. The main story was developed from the start, including the mummer's dragon.
Whatever
I know Martin wanted to make the series a trilogy, then 5 and hopefully finishes in 7. So was Aegon part of the original seriesor just added in later books as a twist and to expand the story. What we do know was that GRRM, in first draft, had no dragons at all. Somewhat OOT I know, but it might be interesting to consider.
Werthead
It's been part of the plan since, as far as we can tell, Day One. There are multiple musings on Aegon's unrecognisable features in AGoT (some of them very early on) and GRRM was definitely planning it as of the House of the Undying in ACoK. Theories about Aegon's survival began circulating on the earliest version of this board quite quickly after ACoK first came out, I believe, and GRRM hinted at it in interviews in the early 2000s ("Were Aegon and Rhaenys definitely killed?" "Well, Rhaenys certainly was,"). The degree to which GRRM hinted that Aegon had survived - highly unusually given his reticence to speak about anything else plot-related in the whole series - of course could be taken to confirm that this is a fake Aegon and his comments are misdirection. Or maybe that's what he wants us to think...
JLE
So, if Aegon *is* a fake, he's not some common-or-garden commoner jumped up. He's definitely *a* dragon - the question is, black or red.
Winnief
So, if Aegon *is* a fake, he's not some common-or-garden commoner jumped up. He's definitely *a* dragon - the question is, black or red. BINGO. If he's a Blackfyre, then even if he's not really part of the line of succession, he might very well be able to 'connect' with Dany's dragons, and thus be the "third dragon head."
