  1. I couldn't agree more, it's the same old tired and irrelivant defence that is used over and over again. I would be ecstatic if d$d had presented us with a story that completely diverged from the books if it was intelligent and well written. what could be better than having two stories to enjoy, and not being spoiled by a, dumbed down, pathetic version of the original. This argument was irrelivant when it first started being used several seasons ago and is increasingly becoming more and more pathetic as the show continues to faulter exponentially in of itself with every passing episode.
  2. I don't know, why is it that a cat can spend day after day and countless hours batting around a piece of tinfoil crunched up into a ball? I suspect the two reasons are similar. "Oh look, shiny! " I haven't seen anyone claim this, what point are you trying to make that counters any argument being made. That's true, because if this show wasn't based on the books, and d&d had taken the same approach in season one that they have since taken, I wouldn't have continued to watch, as I'm sure a majority of book readers who tuned in for the same reason wouldn't have, and it would have never been renewed for a second season. Most people I know had not even heard of the show at the end of season one, and would never have started watching if I didn't encouraged them to. Something that has since become a great source of shame for me. And before anyone starts in with the tired old argument that I still have the option to stop watching, please don't bother, there are several reasons that contribute to why I now continue to watch Got, which would not have been applicable had d&d botched the first season as they have to a greater extent each subsequent season. I wonder if d&d use the same line of nonsense to justify the decisions that they make? Actually, several of their quotes would suggest that indeed, they do.
  3. This show has long since past the point of "finding something to nit pick" and crossed into the teritory of repeatedly bludgening you in the face with an intentional and obvious disregard for any criteria used in telling a good story.
  4. One could argue that the people that constantly come to this thread to bash other people's ratings and opinions are in "serious need of a reality check" and should "stop wasting their time" on such an "idiotic" endeavor.
  5. If you think this is a valid counter argument to the point being made, I'm sorry but you have a poor understanding of how these things work, and what is currently driving the success and ratings for the show.
  6. At least you have the honesty to admit what you love about Got. I can respect that, and is why I would consider your rating to be fair and valid. Unlike many who have rated this episode a ten (or eleven in your case) you are not claiming it to be some flawlessly written masterpiece. What I do take issue with is your statement that "If you're looking for something else out of GOT, you're in the wrong place". Although now true, that is the problem with this show. Got used to be, and is supposed to be an adaption of ASOIAF, which is any thing but "one flashy light after another". Don't get me wrong, the books have their share of flashy lights, it's just that those lights shine because of the meticulous and intricate circuitry laid out by GRRM to power them. This is sorely missing in the show of late. The reason I loved Got in the early seasons is because back then, this show wasn't the "wrong place if you're looking for something else." d$d have lost the desire to adapt this amazing story, or to even tell a coherent and meaningful story at all anymore. It's all flashy lights with no means to make them shine. Once the surge of energy created by the buzz and shock factor that Got currently benefits from, these flashy lights will fade into a cold and silent dark.
  7. OK, I understand what you are saying and agree. The point was that the poster who said "numbers don't lie" was trying to use them them to prove something that it didn't. This is were my argument that the numbers do lie stems from. In an earlier post of mine I stated that I don't deny that it proved the show is popular, just that it doesn't mean it's good. So I'll revise my stance to be more acurate, the numbers are not lying, certain people will manipulate the numbers or misrepresent them. It's people that lie, not the numbers.
  8. I never compared two tv shows to each other. No, I never said it was the same thing. My point was this. If 100 people choose to go to one show, and only 10 people choose to go to another show, then those numbers would suggest that the former was a better show. However, this is not the case, these numbers in essence, lie. Just because a majority of the people choose to see the first show and enjoy that type of a show, it does not mean it is better than the latter. The same goes for voting in a poll, just because a majority think that this show is good, it does not make it so. These polls confirm the popularity of Got, it does not speak to the quality of it in any way. I'm not trying to use numbers to prove a point. My whole point is that you can't use these numbers to prove a point. I'm not sure where you get this from? The gross income of Jurassic world is useless in judging the quality of it. The number of 10 votes that Got received is useless in judging the quality of it. That's a fact.
  9. You do know that there are objective means in which a work of literature can be judged. There are established academic standards that use criteria such as plot, consistency, characterization etc. to determine whether a work of literature is good or not. When judged by these standards, Got fails miserably. I mean, have you never taken an English class when you were in school? Did you not learn about these things? I wish my English teacher used your method of grading my projects, I could have aced my classes, stating that my work was perfect and deserved an A+ just because I personally liked it.
  10. True, but jondance's implication was that these numbers do prove that it was the best show ever. He stated: The analogy that JEORDHl used would counter his claim that the numbers don't lie. The fact that Jurassic World grossed as much as it did, would suggest that it was a good movie, but as I'm sure most of us would admit, this is not the case, and proves that the numbers do lie. Any numbers derived from either a fan poll, or how many viewers saw something is useless in judging the quality of something. Popularity does not equate to quality.
  11. At least someone does, d&d sure don't. So you don't consider writing to be an aspect of making a television show? So there are 95,000 10's out of 95,000 votes. You do know what an average is, don't you? I understand that you loved and enjoyed this episode, and I respect your right to rate it a 10. But to claim that the writing was even decent is laughable. You claim that numbers don't lie, well the vast majority of people on this poll that loved the episode and rated it very high, still admitted that the writing was sub-par. Simply put, the numbers you are throwing around are in no way "concrete evidence" to support that Got is a quality show.
  12. I don't deny that the overwhelming majority of viewers thinks this episode was a 10/10. My comment was in regards to your statement that numbers don't lie, a very naive comment in my opinion.
  13. I fear to ask what you would consider a bad day. Nothing like having one brother cruelly murdered, and another sibling stab her family in the back and being the cause of hundreds of deaths, including the death of said brother to constitute a good day. But I guess your right, Sansa sure was smiling a lot while all this had just happened. to more good days just like this for the Starks.
  14. I'm confused with that request. Your post is perfectly suitable and justifiable to be in this thread.
  15. The issue with your argument is that not only are the parameters for evaluation methods not defined or consistent, but the participants of the poll are of a biased opinion. This is a Got fan forum. I guarantee if this poll was in the book section of the forum, the results would be vastly different. A majority of the people that feel the show is bad, do not even come to this section of the forum. The results of this poll are useless in judging the quality of the show, It's only valuable in judging to what degree people who like the show enjoyed each specific episode in comparison with the other ones.
  16. Perhaps you were not the one to specifically state that, but many on here have. These statements would imply as such, and suggest that if I don't give a point for something you feel deserves it, then my opinion is worthless and wrong. Your statement about emotions that I quoted above would be a contradiction to this stance. Unless of course, you also know better of the emotions that I personally feel.
  17. So if I'm watching a scene, although very well shot with amazing visuals, but invokes emotions of confusion, boredom and disgust in me, why should I be obligated to give points for that scene in my rating?
  18. And there you have it, quite a telling statement, confirming the accusations and arguments against your stance.
  19. Giving an opinion that differs from yours is not trolling, You should really look up the definition of the word before you start throwing baseless accusations around at people. If you don't like reading opinions that don't conform to what you think, you should stop coming to a forum designed for the very purpose of sharing and discussing your opinions. Simple.
  20. If you rate the episode a ten and are fine with someone rating it a one, all the power to you, that is your right. If you rate the episode a ten and call anyone who gives it a one an idiot, that just shows that you are an insecure and rude hypocrite.
  21. That's cool, the same always happens to me, just the other way around. It's easy to start generalizing your argument when dealing with several responses at once.
  22. I would add that the shows that you mentioned are not presented as a gritty and realistic adult drama, which is praised for this characteristic, and simply does not hold up to that claim anymore. Not to mention the acclaim Got receives for the aspects of the show that are clearly not deserving.
  23. when did I ever criticize anyone at all? Maybe you should actually read my posts before you start making false accusations towards me. You might also want to follow your own advise that you give to other people, and ignore the posts that upset you to the point that you are rude to other people for the simple fact that they have a differing opinion then you.
