That's probably about right. SoS has been, at least lately, the hardest to find orphaned copies of. It also happens to be my personal favorite of the illustrators--Charles Vess. The covers are fantastic, as are the interior illustrations.

Marcus--do you have pictures of the Meisha Merlin edition of a Storm of Swords? I imagine that might be the rarest book in the whole collection.

Another full Subpress Set up on the bay for 10k. Am I the only one who thinks this is too high? (Full disclosure, mine is going for significantly less). 10k just seems too high. Someone convince me otherwise.

I think I'm going to sell my matching SubPress Set #267. I've also plunked down the cash for the Knight of The Seven Kingdoms, so this set will include: -A Game of Thrones -A Clash of Kings -A Storm of Swords -A Feast for Crows -A Dance with Dragons -Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (when received from publisher) -Future Rights to books in the series. I'm open to offers, but given that there are six books already included with rights to future books, please send serious offers. I'd love for this set to go to a good home rather than being the ignored stepchild to my full(er) set. And this community likely has the best homes around. PMs are welcome.

Practically all of your posts are focused on how $6,000 is "way too high" for a Sub Press Set. Setting aside any suspicions about your motives, I respectfully disagree. Multiple sets sold for around that before GoT was even released. Now that Sub Press is an internally consistent set with the addition of GoT, I see no reason why it shouldn't be higher than $6,000. But, as has been mentioned before, it's all about what the market will bear. If a buyer is out there and wants a SubPress set, they'll pay a price they feel is fair. A little research and perusing on this board will reveal that, while there is some disagreement, everyone agrees that somewhere in the 5s to 7s is certainly fair.

As we gear up for Season 5 of the HBO show and SubPress is about to release GoT(?), any sense out there what a matching Sub Press is going for? I've got one that I'm considering putting up on the market.

I think Happy Times is right on. Now that the Sub Press set is complete, I can see it going for $7,000, no problem. That ends up being ~$1,400 per book (if you don't factor in the premium of having a complete set of all the books), plus the right to buy the future books at cost. Given that orphaned copies of the books go for more than $1,000 these days, it should come as no surprise that a full set of books (even minus the MM books) goes for that much. Previous posters are right, though, that the secondary market for these books gets hottest around the air date of the HBO show. If this series becomes one of the greats in literature and fantasy, I could see the value of the books only going up (especially after GRRM's demise (may he live a long, healthy life)). That said, however, if it fizzles out (or, heaven forbid, Martin dies before completing it) the books could lose slip from their present values. Hard to say, projecting out that far. All part of the fun of collecting, I suppose.

Nice find, becca. That really is the best price I've seen on that.

I haven't either. I can try and extrapolate for you a bit from other sets. The full Subpress sets (including one I sold several months back) were at about $6,000, but are set to increase with the next season of HBO's version and the release of the SubPress GoT. I'd expect them to increase to between $7,000 to $8,000 once GoT is out, even higher if demand peaks for other reasons that we can't foresee. That said, if a full set of MM and SubPress books were out there, I'd expect it to fetch another $1,500 at least on top of the going price now. So Anywhere between $7,500 and $9,500. This is about in line with half of what the lettered editions are or will be going for (the last two sets have fetched about $15,000, unless I'm mistaken). I'm no valuation expert, though, and at the end of the day, books are worth what others will pay for them. If someone's motivated, they may be willing to pay more. If the demand isn't there or slacks for some reason, it may go for less.

Time for an update. I sold my set of SP books #288 to ReekReekItRhymesWithLeek this last week. He has books in hand, reports that all is well, and he's now got rights to future volumes in the set. Reek was great to work with and, even better, the transaction paid off the remainder of our hospital bills. I love my ASoIaF books, but I'll trade any one of them for a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Anyway, I still have #267, and I've had several soft offers for it. I had intended to hold onto it at least until SP publishes Game of Thrones and/or Winds of Winter (no later than 2017!), but if anyone is interested and can offer the right price point, I'm happy to entertain offers. Thanks again to Reek and to becca69 for being the uber collecter / poster / moderator / all-around-great-gal that she is.

Kudos indeed! Wish I'd read the series a few years earlier and had the luck and foresight to snag a lettered edition or two early on.
