  1. Yeah, people edit photos all the time, half the pictures on instagram are probably edited at this stage. Bloody hell, so far as I can tell the entire ad campaign for the Google phone is based on it being good at editing photos. The story here isn’t ‘man edits family photo’ it’s that people are being really, really weird about this whole situation.
  2. Come on, there’s no need for stuff like this. He was really good last year. He’s struggled a bit this year with being in and out of the team but he’s still got 11 goals and 4 assists, that’s fine for your 5th choice forward. He had one good pass to set up Diaz for a chance but anytime he had to sprint he didn’t look confident doing it. Not really a surprise coming back from 2 hamstring injuries I suppose.
  3. Sure, and if the foul on the City goal is seen, we get a penalty at the end for what 100% would have been given as a foul outside the box or Diaz scores any of his 3 big chances we walk away with 3 points.
  4. Fuck's sake, even Mike fucking Dean was disagreeing with the on field decision there. Very annoying game. Clear foul for the City goal (although it's never going to get given) and then comfortably the better side for most of the rest of the game but we can't put away the chances. You can see why Klopp likes Diaz, he's constantly putting himself about, but he's got to come up with at least a goal from those 3 clear chances. Salah didn't really look fit when he came on.
  5. As noted yesterday VAR just ignores grappling in the box but it’s getting ridiculous. Teams have obviously noticed and are taking advantage. City’s set piece move there completely relies on Ake just shoving Liverpool’s front post defender out of the way. Bah.
  6. Spurs’ problem has mostly been lack of depth in defence in their squad. So, yeah, not sure it would have made much difference. Speaking of depth in defence Liverpool missing 4 of their first choice back 5 including the keeper.
  7. That certainly escalated quickly. Right call to give the red I’d say, nasty challenge.
  8. So I wasn’t that fussed who won between Villa and Spurs but, on reflection, considering we’ve got to play both of them in the last three weeks of the season we could probably do without the race for fourth going down to the wire. So, yeah, Spurs winning this probably isn’t ideal.
  9. So going into a bit more detail for yesterday's game one of the big issues I've had with Borthwick's teams, both Leicester and England, is that they're extremely prescriptive about always kicking in their own territory. People will point out that successful teams actually kick a lot and, yes, everyone is going to kick the majority of the time from their own half but I think the point is if there's never any threat of a counter you make it very easy for the opposition. Picking Furbank at fullback did suggest there might be a bit more willingness to take a few risks but England's first 3 scores came from them being willing to counterattack off slightly loose kicks. The first try especially Ireland didn't really look like they were prepared for England running a kick back at them. Beyond that just in general there was a real step up in the pace England were playing at in attack which was good to see. In defence the new system did break down again for one of the Irish tries but in general it was also obviously discomforting an Irish attack which had been running smoothly up to this point. It was important that when Ireland were being pushed back inside by the rush England's forwards were winning the collisions. George Martin was particularly good on that front. I thin there's enough there to encourage England to stick with it. From an Ireland perspective I think losing the collisions in both attack and defence was the big issue. With their attacking system you don't have to get miles over the gainline with every attack but if you get caught behind the gainline it causes problems (it does for everyone to be fair but Ireland in particular I'd say). Crowley didn't have a bad game by any means but maybe if Sexton was there he'd have backed himself to test that England rush on the outside by throwing a few riskier wide passes. In defence I don't think they were prepared for how well England clicked in attack (I wasn't either to be fair). I wouldn't be surprised if they expectation was if they held up for a few phases they could wait for the England error but I think they ended up being a little bit passive.
  10. I watched Dune 2 last night. It was very good. It’s a long time since I’ve been in a crowded cinema though. People are quite annoying.
  11. Well, yeah, but everyone was up in arms because they’d never given it before and they haven’t given it since.
  12. Grappling in the box never gets given despite it being an obvious foul. It’s annoying but they are consistent about it.
  13. Well that was the best performance of the Borthwick era by an absolute mile. Probably the best performance since 2019. There’s quite a lot to build on too, very encouraging.
  14. Fair play, after my complaints about Borthwick last time out, this has been a massive improvement from England. They’ve definitely been the better side but unfortunately they’ve still left about 10 points out there and that’s the difference between being in front and trailing at halftime.
  15. Excellent game in Rome. Both sides played really well. Scotland will be disappointed with the result, especially after having had a decent lead, but they didn't do a huge amount wrong and that was a great effort to try and pull out a win at the end. For Italy a good performance but perhaps more importantly good to see all the elements of their team starting to come together.
  16. Everton should also stop giving away soft penalties while they’re on top in games.
  17. Everton need to start kicking the ball in the net when they get clear cut chances. That’s my incisive analysis for the day.
  18. So the Under 20s game pretty much went to form. England had the advantage in the tight (although their first choice hooker being out restricted them there a bit) but their backs were terrible. Ireland were getting by in the forwards but their backs were clinical. Overall maybe a draw was a fair reflection of the balance of the game but I have to say I think the ref’s fucked England at the end there. Marginal penalty to start with, a very long advantage and Ireland almost score in the corner but advantage apparently still wasn’t over when they knocked it on after the final hooter. ETA: I haven't bothered posting any the teams for the senior games this week because honestly it feels a bit irrelevant. Ireland are such a well drilled unit that so long as they don't do anything nuts with selection they should be fine. England are a mess but it doesn't seem like selection is the problem, it's getting the players picked to play in any sort of cohesive manner. Wales are in transition so some sort of chopping and changing isn't necessarily a big deal. France making 8 changes is interesting I suppose. Maybe a bit of panic setting in?
  19. This has been a pretty ropey performance by Liverpool despite the score, play like this against City and we’ll get battered. On the plus side at least the score line means the tie’s effectively over. That defeat’s a real blow for Brighton. It’s really felt like doing well in Europe was the focus for this season for them.
  20. I’m not sure about this team Klopp’s putting out. Feels like we could definitely have gone with the under 16s for this game, saved the senior players for City and then backed ourselves to win it at Anfield.
  21. I don’t know about conditions being benign, there was a fair amount in it for the bowlers, but it isn’t a bad pitch by any means. England’s middle order are in pretty bad form though unfortunately. The real problem today though was I think they just aren’t picking Kuldeep Yadav, which isn’t ideal. I’m not sure there’s an obvious place for them to go for a quick fix though. Brook would have been in the side you’d think but he’s unavailable for some sort of personal reason. I’d probably have given Lawrence a chance at some point.
  22. Bayern getting knocked out would be funny but unfortunately I think there’s a very limited number of teams in the Champions League this year who could conceivably stop City winning it. Bayern if they pull themselves together and get a bit lucky might, I can’t see Lazio providing much of a challenge.
  23. I stopped watching after the first goal ‘cause, you know, Sheffield United aren’t getting a goal so game over but, bloody hell, they’re 4 down already? That’s embarrassing even by their standards this season.
  24. Not sure about that but it doesn't really matter. The foul is playing the ball in dangerous manner, you don't have to make contact. High boot in a crowded box near someone's head is a foul.
