  1. We can start by stopping : stop calling it babysitting when mom goes out and leaves dad alone with the kids - it's you know, parenting stop accepting the portrayal of dad as some adorably bumbling idiot compared to mom in commercials, television and movies
  2. Young Adult Books: Discuss!

Started reading Six of Crows last night. I also snagged the first library loan of Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth, which has mixed reviews at best and I'm not sure how interested I am in it. I found Divergent meh and the stopped 2 chapters into Allegiant.

Seriously. We were all jammed together unable to move but inches at a time for some of it, and I heard nary an ill word or complaint. I did have one woman trying to get around me to her friend but trying to get around me to my right where there was maybe an inch gap (poor plan) instead of to my left where there was a foot of space (better plan). So after I tired of her jamming into my right shoulder I politely suggested she go to the left. Which she did. That was probably the most irritated I was and in the end it was NBD. And I'm sure many people experienced things like that. A slight inconvenience in the bigger picture.

It's a slam on "Christian" Conservatives.
  6. U.S. Politics Inaguration Sensation: Be Prepared

Ack, I meant to link to the J20Disrupt Twitter account and hashtag - they are the largest organizers of today's protests. But anytime this guy takes a punch in the face is pretty ok. And I'm not a fan of violent protest but eff that guy.

Also, protests are heating up here on K Street with cops around 12th/13th.

I saw photos of near empty metro cars this morning and I overlook a metro stop suggested for pedestrians to start their walk to the route etc. Very little foot traffic that I could see. No shortage of National Guard .2 miles from our building. We live about a mile from the Capitol and half a mile to Union Station. and FWIW @POTUS and @FLOTUS Twitter have American flags as backgrounds now.

Marchers, know your rights. This is specific to Inauguration Weekend in DC but the ACLU has Justice Apps for various states. https://www.acludc.org/demonstrate

I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. That's my feeling for the season. I'm on board with others about But, I did enjoy so so much If this is it, and really it should be, I'm good with it. This season and part of last were uneven. I've had my fill.

Yes. It covers the 'maleness' of Lada and how that is looked upon by everyone in her life/encounters either through discomfort and/or fear and/or disgust along with admiration and respect, and conversely the effects of her brother's 'femaleness' or beauty, and how he's able to charm and put people at ease, without much of any further consideration or suspicion for the most part. I think the followup will explore your later points about martial law and politics for both siblings.
  14. US Politics- Stay Gold, Pony Boy

True. The rumours swirling also suggest the new guy's going to bootstomp the march on Saturday. So in case I'm hauled off to a gulag, I just wanted to say it's been fantastic bantering with you in the baseball threads.

Interesting that Canadian drug prices are topical in Canada today too: http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/health-minister-jane-philpott-drug-prices-1.3932254 Now guys, please explain to my why Trump fired the Commanding General of the DC National Guard effective 15 seconds after he's sworn in? Like, what does this mean exactly? Particularly when there's like this wee little protest walking thing the next day...Is this spite? He was W's hire, not Obama's... http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/01/13/509704620/d-c-national-guard-commander-told-to-step-down-on-inauguration-day?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=npr&utm_medium=social&utm_term=nprnews https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/public-safety/commanding-general-of-dc-national-guard-to-be-removed-from-post/2017/01/13/725a0438-d99e-11e6-b8b2-cb5164beba6b_story.html?utm_term=.173ebb206cc1
