  1. [Book Spoilers] EP 209 Discussion

Tywin coming into the throne room and announcing victory was legendary. Stannis was particularly impressive in this episode (though it is clearly stated that neither he or Tywin lead from the front during battles in the books). But that's why I love these GRRM penned episodes; it allows him to update the occurrences of the novels. Stannis getting right in the thick of things, at least to me, seems more like what I would expect from him.
  2. For all the complaining, how good is Tywin/Arya?
  3. Jaime Lannister's fate

Jaime is one of the best characters in the novels, and I'm glad GRRM made him more than a cocky asshole of a knight. It's true though - what happens to a guy like that when he's forced to confront his mortality? Or when his character defining martial skill is stripped away? His moral ambiguity and depth of character are all excellent. GRRM is doing this with Theon to a certain extent as well, except Theon has been tortured to the point of madness and lacks the powerful sense of self that Jaime has.
  4. I think we'll have it in 2-3 years. With the mounting popularity (and, I'm sure, cash) of the HBO series, it makes sense for him to bang them out.
  5. I love your signature. :) "Oh sweet summer child, what do you know of waiting?"

  6. Well, in the sample chapter, Ramsay tells Theon he wants him there when he takes hold of fake Arya. I assume he wants this because he needs someone to confirm her identity. Unclear at this point. I still think Theon has it in him to stab Ramsay in the back, but we'll see. Rereading the sample, there's still a little dickhead Theon in there.
  7. I suppose we'll see, though I can't argue any other evidence in the series as to now. Theon has always had a weak will. He's also kind of a scumbag, so I'm expecting him to kill Ramsay at an opportune moment. This being GRRM, however, Sam Tarly will probably kill Ramsay unknowingly. Hah.
  8. I agree. He's got a weak will, but this experience might have steeled him a bit. I realize he's scared poopless at this point, but I would assume that, if given the chance to make a move, he'll take it. I also assume Bolton is holding him because he can then take not only the North, but potentially the Iron Islands as well - otherwise, Theon would be dead. The politics of the North right now are very intriguing to me.
  9. Jon Snow Meets Undead Cat

Intriguing...I could see the kind old man saying something ambiguous like "the stranger wants Jon Snow" or the like. Which would add a very interesting spin to the House of Black and White. However, I don't think GRRM is going there, at least not in that direct a fashion. The man loves his subtleties, as we know.
  10. Jon Snow Meets Undead Cat

I strongly suspect Arya will be ordered to kill Jon. She may even be sent to the wall as Arya to more easily pass the defenses of the Night's Watch. Arya has a cool plotline, but not much or a role in the primary plot of the story at this juncture.
  11. Jon Snow Meets Undead Cat

Bottom line is that she ain't gonna catch Jon alone. He's a lot harder to kill these days, being Lord Commander and all. In fact, he'd be the favorite in this particular slugfest, and I don't mean because of individual skill.
  12. [Pre-ADwD Spoilers] Jon 3 but actually Jon 1

He'll announce the publication soon. He knows we want the book, I'm sure he wants the book completed and published, and HBO is launching a series on the saga. I'm no marketing pro, but it sure sounds like a good idea to launch the fifth book in the series around the time, say, the first season ends or shortly thereafter? Then make sure to tune into the second season, of course. ;)
  13. I think, given this Davos chapter, there will be a new great house in the North. To be seen.
  14. Very true. If I were Jon Snow, I would have become Jon Stark, took back my seat, let Stannis do whatever except break down the Wall, march south with him, own with a stone dragon, (possibly pulling a Roose Bolton if I had to), take a dornish hottie as my bride, and then retire in the north. Maybe let Bran do the work, or Rickon, if he becomes less annoying. Of course, this would probably spell doom for Westeros, since JS obviously has something to do with defeating the Others.
