  1. Uh, and now we have to get up when it is still dark because it is an hour earlier. This is ridiculous, you are not "saving" any daylight, just moving it to the late afternoon and forcing people to get up earlier. I used to not be bothered at all by the time change, but now it is really hitting me. And I just can't be grumpy at work. That's the students' job.
  2. One hour of our weekend was cruelly stolen and I have to reset the clocks again. Why are we doing this again?
  3. I am sure they appreciated it a lot. Then I "tortured" them in early morning classes both on Wednesday and Thursday, which I am less sure they appreciated. Still have a pile of essays to grade and I've had them up to ... *shows somewhere high* ... here. Grading essays is the worst.
  4. Don't beat yourself up is all I can say. It is very spring-like here too. Enough that my students convinced me today to have class outside ... that didn't end too well.
  5. I am sure everybody understands that you cannot work 100 % just after your surgery. Take care of yourself. Are you feeling any better today? Thank you. It is ... a lot.
  6. @RhaenysBee This sounds scary. Are you feeling okay now, do you have somebody to take care of you in case you feel worse again? I am sure your coworkers will be able to handle whatever highly important event this was and you will be able to take a day off to get better. I am, since last week, stuck grading essays and tests. I am about halfway through (but I will get a new load of essays to grade on Friday, so yay).
  7. Take care of yourself. I only just caught up with your story here (haven't been on the forum much) and ... big hugs. I hope you feel both physically and mentally better. I just want to share that my group of teenagers at school is the best group of teenagers. I never knew a teacher can actually become that attached to their students and be so proud of them. Yes, they can be moody and do silly stuff as teenagers do, but they are also so creative and clever and adorable that one just has to like them. Suffice to say, "my" group has a lot of privileges with me, compared to the other groups I teach.
  8. If you want to name it so. That must be very tiring. Pamper yourself when you can. Good luck. Make sure you attend all the follow-up appointments and everything. I wouldn't say that. Almost all the snow is gone here now too. It is cold, foggy, wet though. Some of them, they are just being teenagers and do mildly stupid stuff. Some of them, they do worse things. There is nothing to be terrified of though. I am learning to handle them still, but you gain experience pretty quickly.
  9. Just a generic crappy black coat and a pointy hat witch. And no broomstick, as that would have been too tedious to carry around watching the parade for a few hours. Good luck. I trust you are in home care by now? Or still in the hospital? Good idea. I spent the last weekend at some workshop for teachers. It was interesting and thought-provoking, and now I feel all important because I made our school participate in this project. It is going to take some energy though. We had some more snow on the weekend and yesterday, so it looks like the winter is not over yet. The students are being both good and bad, they did some stupid stuff last week. The ones I am responsible for, I handled it. The worse shit some of them did, well, luckily it was not the group I am responsible for because I have no clue how I would have handled it.
  10. Dances not really, unless you consider unsynchronised jumping and running of traditional masked creatures "dancing". Carnival food, yes, donuts. I assume the same kind as you speak of, not the American kind. Ours are generally filled with apricot filling, which I don't like, so I generally don't eat them (unless they have vanilla or chocolate filling). I do hope you get yours though. I was dressed as a witch and the Mr. was dressed as a soldier. It was fun. Yay! What did you read? I hope something relaxing and not too difficult to start with. Don't rush to work. Take care of yourself first. I hope everybody, including sister, pitches in to help you. Your mother still lives in the house she used to live with your father? Maybe moving out of there would improve her life a lot.
  11. Kind of functional, as is every system. That doesn't sound too bad. Social security is great. Thank you. Also trying to take care of myself, I suppose. We just had a nice Carnival Sunday with the Mr. and some friends. We went to a city with a big Carnival tradition and saw a loooooot of traditional masks.
  12. That's public sector for you. All strictly regulated. Yay for decent food. I have heard of terrible hospital food, but I cannot speak myself because I luckily never had to stay in one. Take care of youself and well, don't overear I suppose. I have a regular (not annual, the type that you need to go to once every three years) test scheduled next week, but work schedule changed, so I have to reschedule now. Am planning to still go, of course, so I am taking your advice seriously! Enjoying both of these things ... well, yes or no.
  13. Not for now, but if I manage to get another excellent review, then I can start earning more money (you need three good yearly reviews for that). I think spring is definitely coming. The mornings are still terribly cold, but the afternoons are getting warm. I just made pancakes. I regret to say I cannot deliver them to you through the internet. I hope the health situation improves soon. I am ... IDK, overworked as usual?
  14. I mean, I would hope this whole thread would be completed this year. Preferably sooner than later. I just don't think anybody would want to start a new thread at this point. Everybody should post here more. And thank you!
  15. Woohoo! I got two yearly performance reviews or assesments or evaluations of my work today from my boss, for both years I worked here. They are both excellent too. It is starting to get somewhat warmer. Is the winter still coming or is it spring now?
  16. Uhhhhh. Then good luck in two weeks. Maybe something like chocolate, or a cocoa or something else nice will calm you down today? Take care of yourself.
  17. Surgery? That sounds terrible. I am keeping my fingers crossed it goes well and your recovery is quick. And of course that the nice overworked people stay nice for you. Keep us/me updated! I am mentally badly, as usual in this shithole of a city, but at least my dissertation is progressing. I miss people I know.
  18. The conference talk went ok! Now I am on my way to the boring city to work on my dissertation for a week. I just survived a night on the sleeping train for the first time, that was really interesting.
  19. I am not even in the mountains. Thank you. I am very tired, honestly, and lack motivation to prepare for it ... I will do it later ... today.
  20. There is SO. MUCH. SNOW. Cars were buried under it today. It snowed heavily from yesterday evening till today afternoon. It looks like it stopped now, they said on the news there will be a mix of snow and rain the next few days ... so there will be water everywhere. Nah, not a lot of relatives at all. But even those that are there, are plenty. It is this Friday! I am very behind the schedule with that, sadly. I haven't finished preparing the talk yet. I need to get on that and finish it to be able to prepare for it too. I am sorry to hear that. I keep my fingers crossed for the health issue to be sorted out soon. I am glad you are at least having quality time with friends and family.
  21. More snow! Also spent most of the weekend with the gentleman's family. They are nice, but now I am glad to have some time for myself too. It looks like I am talking to myself in this thread.
  22. Okayish! This week brought a lot of snow. It was snowing during the night Sunday-Monday and still on Monday morning. And now again. It looks pretty. I hope it stays for some time. Work is not too bad this week, we have 2 afternoons where I have to stay late, but otherwise not too busy. I am preparing a talk for a conference next week too.
