  1. I'm enjoying the series a lot. It's interesting to follow the changes from the books. HBO seems to be solving something that troubles me with the books (which I LOVE, otherwise) and that is the sheer number of characters. I really got lost in during the book that begins with (is it 7??) acolytes at the Citadel. I kept thinking how hard it was to keep the names straight. To my mind it's better, especially on television, to have the main characters interact with each other more. I loved Arya and Tywin's interactions. I loved seeing Littlefinger with the Tyrells and with Catelyn. I loved seeing Khal Drogo in the House of the Undying. I don't think backstory would play well on TV. Sure, I love the story about Rhaegar, and the prophecies, but I don't think I'd be able to absorb it in a 48-58 minute episode that also deals with the many, many other main characters. When reading, it helps that I can reread chapters of the books, or look at the family trees, or find the Dunk and Egg stories, etc. Reading is a completely different experience. Along those lines, I can't imagine we're going to get an entire tv season where Dany, Sansa, and Cersei just don't appear. At least I hope not. I'm also going to have to watch the Valar Morghulis episode again, because I only saw wights at the end. I didn't notice any White Walkers, just the slow, clumsy wights. I'm not sure I remember seeing the Others at all. Where they in the very first episode?
  2. Did anyone else hear the words "Game of Thrones, season finale" and think OHHH NOOOOO! I'm so bummed that the season is over. I loved it. Dany's trip to the House of the Undying. How fabulous to see Khal Drogo and the baby. Everyone is off on a new adventure, Bran and Rickon, Jon Snow, Sam, Dany, Arya, Robb, Jaime, even Sansa (though we don't really see where she's going, or how she's staying) and Tyrion. No one has seen their status unchanged.
  3. 'NW Deserter' "Gave it an 8. It started at a 10: [...] Liked that Sam found the dragonglass, too. Points off for three things: [*]Half a point off for the disappointing end to Arya's stay in Harrenhall. I understand that a lot of it isn't vital to the overall plot, but I missed Jaqen's face change, the coin being given, the weasel soup, etc. I noticed episode 10 is caled Valar Morghulis, so hopefully this means we get some of that then. [*]Half a point off for nobody actually learning about Bran and Rickon, particularly Catelyn and Robb. I can still buy that they both did what they did (releasing Jaime and forsaking a vow, respectively), but it took a lot of the emotional punch out of it. I'm honestly not sure why this decision was made, but oh well. [*]The other point off for what I am legitimately pissed about - not revealing Tyrion's plan with the freaking chain! That thing does so much for saving the city, for giving Tyrion the credit he deserves from viewers/readers (but of course not from the citizens of Kings Landing), and there's not even a mention of it. What has he even really done? All I can think of is him taking Cersei's wildfire idea and doing it more, but other than that, nothing. This won't even seem like Tyrion's victory to the viewers! First thing that has really frustrated me during the entire series. " To me it's realistic that Catelyn and Robb don't know about Bran and Rickon's "deaths" yet. There's too much distance. I imagine it will be revealed to them later and push the story further. I also REALLY missed Weasel Soup, but my guess is that we'll see Arya in full warrior mode at some point. I'm hoping to be surprised.
