Hedge Knight

Hedge Knight (5/8)

  1. 9 for me, minus 1 for the underwhelming and poorly written Kingsmoot. i thought the rest was really good and the end some of the best work they've done yet.
  2. I re-watched the episode again last night and it was much better than I originally thought. It's pretty much a 10/10 in my book now. There were a few things that bugged me: no Stannis, particularly when the episode ended 8 minutes or so early, ghost only killing one person and not walking out with Jon at the end, watching Tormund fight. The way he's all herky-jerky with his movements bugs me, but his fight with Ser Alliser was great. Aside from that, the entire episode was excellent. I would have liked one scene with Mance in the wildling camp just to get a pov from there though.
  3. 7/10 for me just because Jon Snow kicked ass, Sam and Thorne were great and the mammoth and Giants were well done. And the scythe, can't forget the scythe. Aside from that however, I felt it was a disappointment overall and in no way was as good as Blackwater. Looking forward to the continuation and the surprise arrival, but it feels, to me, that even that will feel watered down since they'll be wrapping up so much in one episode. This one was waaaaaaaay too short.
  4. I give S4E8 a 9/10. I had no qualms with the book deviations (Sophie was outstanding) and the duel was perfect, or as perfect as it could be. Nina Gold and D&D have their work cut out for them in casting the Dornish. How do you top Pedro's performance? The way his lines started low then gradually rose, crescendo-like was absolutely magnificent. Though I did miss "ELIAAAAA!" His death was just as awful as I imagined when reading it. Ellaria's reaction was heart-wrenching. Truly a masterful scene in my opinion.
  5. I gave it a 9. I enjoyed it, it was a solid episode all the way around IMO. I liked the whole season with only a few gripes on book deviations. I thought most of the changes they made seemed to have worked out ok. Bring on season 4!
  6. That was brutal. It was as good as could be expected for an adaptation of such a monumental scene. Did I notice tents on fire and horsemen attacking in next weeks preview? If so then I think the RW will still be happening, hopefully we get to see the Blackfish cut his way out of it and head back to Riverrun. I don't think we'll get the kiss of life this season. At least I hope not. I do hope we get a certain dream from Arya though. We've had no word of Nymeria since season 1. I couldn't reasonably give this anything less than a ten. I was silent throughout the whole episode, Heart pounding when the bedding started. Incredibly well done
  7. Finally got to watch it. Gave it a solid 9. One of the better episodes this season for sure. Dany's scenes were great and not just because she's smoking hot. Liked Daario surprisingly, he's much less flamboyant, quite a bit more subtle, but still has the swagger from the books . Loved that they kept his ridiculous naked lady blades accurate. The wedding and "bedding" we're every bit as uncomfortable as I expected them to be. Drunken Tyrion was great. Loved all of his drunken dialogue in the scene from his defiance towards Joffrey to his scene with Sansa. While the leech scene was certainly a huge deviation from the books, I thought it was effective in moving the plot along and I got what they were going for. As both a Stannis and Dillane fan, I loved his scene with Davos. I know show Stan doesn't get a lot of love on these boards, but he hasn't disappointed me in the slightest really. Aside that we don't get to see enough of him. Dillane's portrayal, to me, is not such a chariciture, if that's the right word, as book Stannis is. I can't wait til they get to the battle in the snow that he saw in the flames, and particularly what comes after. Arya and the Hound. I love that little Maisie Williams acting so much that if I ever have another daughter, I'm naming her Maisie. True story. The Hound simply isn't his brother. He doesn't seem quite dark enough though, but I suppose he does soften up a bit in the books at times as well. Rory does a great job playing the part though. His is consistently one of my favorites in the show. The ravens/crows and the weirwood and Sam the freakin Slayer was awesome. 1000 eyes and 1. Loved it. I just wish Grenn was there to see it, but who knows, maybe he was and we'll see it in one of the later episodes. I sure hope we get Coldhands before seasons end though. All in all I thought it was terrific. Oh and Cersei and Joffrey are assholes. Which is great, cause I hate them equally in the books too.
  8. I'm aware of that. But the books didn't make him out to be a complete jackass before hand
  9. In the preview, Edmure looked very happy at his wedding. Poor guy. They've already made him out to be a complete jackass up to this point and that's just going to fuel the fires so to speak.
  10. I gave it a 7. Kind of a "boring" episode but I still enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a more dialogue driven episode than action oriented episode, which I'm just fine with. The dialogue was very good and some of the scenes are obvious set-up's for what's to come. I didn't like the Sansa/Margaery scene though. Sansa was fine, she acts exactly how i expect her too. I don't like that they've made Margaery exactly what Cersei thinks she is. In the books she comes across as much more innocent, shrewd yes, but not some promiscuous floozy. Natalie Dormer plays the role well, but she can only deliver the lines that are written for her, so... I've no complaints about Jon/Ygritte. They both act exactly like I think they should. Same goes for Robb/Talisa. It's much more than we get from them in the books obviously, but they've both handled their roles pretty well in my opinion. Blackfish becoming the Greatjon seems to be the route they're going with. Dunno why they didn't just recast the Greatjon to be honest. I do like the Blackfish though. At least he wasn't bullying Edmure this time. Disappointed that we've met no other northern lords that are pro-Robb. It has really cheapened Robb's whole storyline this season and made him a much less sympathetic character. My biggest problem was the Arya claiming "death" as her one true God. Too soon. What about the old gods little Stark? That and the fact that the scene escalated to her capture by the hound much too fast. The whole episode went too fast to me. But as I said, it was I said, it's a solid 7. The dialogue was good. Shae didn't even make me cringe this time.
  11. Regarding Ros, I would not be surprised in the least if her gruesome demise is the catalyst (as if there aren't enough already) for Tywin dressing down Joffrey, confiscating his crossbow, which will later on be found in his bedchamber by Tyrion... I'd put money on that crossbow being the one
  12. I gave it an 8, started to give it a 7 While this episode deviated from the books in basically every scene, I still found it an enjoyable episode all around. I thought the Theon scene was great. I, like many others, favored Cillian Murphy for the role of the Bastard, but I have to admit that Iwan Rheon has been perfectly cast. He takes crazy to another level IMO. Tywin/Olenna had some great dialogue, not that I would expect any less from either of the characters. I thought Ros' death was horrific and a sharp reminder that Joffrey is a evil, sadistic prick (not that anyone could forget I guess). Poor Sansa. Just poor, poor Sansa The only low point to me in the episode was the Osha/Meera/Bran/Jojen scene. I just don't get why Jojen is having a seizure nor why there is so much animosity between Osha and Meera. Gendry being sold to Mel bothers me too. He was freaking knighted in the books, now it appears that wont be happening. Still, I enjoyed it overall
  13. Oh there was one big disappointment forme though: No Patchface=suckage I can live without Moonboy and Butterbumps, but the lack of Patches bothers me a lot .
  14. Finally got to watch the episode and gave it another 10. Every scene was great IMO. Selyse is fanatical and creepy. Shireen is sad and sweet. Stannis has been humanized finally. The Lannister scene was excellent as usual. Roose Bolton is becoming awesome; really digging McElhatton's portrayal. The bath scene was perfect. NCJ and Christie continue to own as a duo. Robb's scenes were good too. I don't have any issues with Talisa like so many others do. Jon and Ygritte was also excellent. Emille Clark continues to own Dany this season. Beric, Thoros, Arya and the Hound are simply magnificent. Perfect episode. Well done!
