We are hoping that support will get back to us today, if not we won't know for sure until next week. They claim they managed to convert a database without data loss, though. But when we import that, we will of course lose the last days of posts here again.
-
Yes, yes, yes! Our dogs hip x-rays came back already (did them yesterday) and no sign of hip dysplasia (its a mandatory check for boxers).
-
We don't know when or if that will happen, its down to the support from the forum software and they have not responded for over week.
-
Regarding the skin, there is no way to make this board look like the old board, the software was completely rewritten and the skin that the forum maker provides is much too different. I do agree that the posts seem to float together a bit, so I will need to see if I can find anything in the skin to fix that.
-
My Content and various other such functions have been removed in favour of the "Activity Stream", which is accessed via the "More" dropdown on top.
-
I had the same issue and it seems you have to delete the photo entirely from your profile by selecting another option, saving and then going back in and setting it to the Twitter photo.
-
This current version of the board has a skin which won't work very well on small screens because it stays exactly the same. It works fine on tablets, generally, at least other than the smaller models. The new board will have a skin that changes automatically with screen size to work better on smaller sizes than the default.
-
Unfortunately it will roll back to the 14th of July database because one of the problematic tasks is a mySQL rebuild of all tables, which just for the millions of posts took several days.
-
Emmit, The new skin has no separate mobile skin, its a responsive design that is supposed to work equally well on any screen size. As for when we might try IPB 4 again, we unfortunately do not know at all at this point. There are several remaining issues with the database that we have to solve with the help of IPB's support and it is going ... slowly.
-
I am not entirely sure, because they have merged usernames and displaynames. I will take a look at the test install. Found it: It is now under Account Settings > Display Name.
-
We attempted to upgrade on the 14th. See Announcements for how that went. I am not quite sure what those settings are, btw?
-
The upgrade was rolled back, so no, search isn't fixed. The database is too large for what the server can handle searching. We're not even certain it will work after the upgrade, alas, but we have some other things to try.
-
This topic is for new Wiki of Ice and Fire editors to introduce themselves to the rest of the community.
-
We probably can't try search until we've upgraded the forum and/or moved the forum back to the other server. We'll have to see what can be done after we come back (Monday, but late).
-
Unfortunately, yes. We are out of performance mode, but have had to disable search separately.
-
Search is still disabled due to the issues with performance that is causes. We have turned on the other functions that were disabled before, but the board still cannot handle search.
-
That's an issue with the board software, I'm afraid.
-
I've now turned performance mode off to see if we can manage without.
-
The board was in performance mode due to high traffic, which disables certain cpu-intensive features. I have now turned this off to see if we can manage without.

mcbigski, We're already running two servers, more wouldn't be feasible on a permanent basis. We've talked about some scaling solutions, but for various reasons could not get that implemented this year. The wiki upgrade left us with some problems that took weeks to troubleshoot and ate up much of the time our host could have spent looking at alternative setups. Lord Lannister, We'll probably give it a try tomorrow. Its late enough now that we're soon heading to bed, so that wouldn't be a good time.
-
Lord Lannister, I don't believe the board software offers any such settings, unfortunately. Perhaps the next version will, once we are able to upgrade, but I am not sure what the new feature set is like.
-
It probably won't be back up until a week or two after the show, the traffic is simply too high to leave performance mode right now.
-
They definitely started up again when we moved the forum to co-exist with the main Westeros site, so I think IPB and EE just don't like living together.
