1. Awesome! Loved it. Quote from the husband: "Jeoffry should die a slow and horrible death" Love the grossness of the shadowbaby!
2. Great Episode! Loved every minute of it. I like how they have streamlined Shae's story line. We really don't need Lorrys--Bronn can marry someone who has not been scene on-screen---her name/title is what matters.
3. He replaces a "because he was told to" baby killer with a "for enough money" baby killer edit to reword/clarity
4. I gave it a 6, the lowest rating I have given any episode. I didn't care about all the minor changes as long as they keep the major plot lines in place, and I am worried they messed up two of them. The husband on the other hand (non-book reader) still gives it an 8 or 9. He didn't like the Ros crying scene, but loved most everything else.
5. I don't really get upset about things being different in the tv show from the books UNLESS I think it affects the story line: This is the problem I had too. I guess we have to wait and see if this makes Bronn's betrayal easier or harder to believe. I also thought Mel "seduced" Stanis in his sleep (maybe with him subcounsiously aware of it) and that "he always does what is right". Having sex just at the promise of a son seems to lesson his character and his strength. I had mistakenly thought it was Gilly already having the baby boy, but since it wasn't I am not as bothered by that change. Didn't care for the Ros scene, but someone showed me what was posted on another board and this makes a lot sense (in addition to the LF is a cold hearted bastard: Definately an interesting POV (thanks Mya) Not sure I liked that Jeoff ordered it, but he is older and nastier in the tv show, so I guess I can live with it. As far as Shireen and Rhoko go, don't care all at. As far as I can see they are not part of the plot line eta: I should add that I did really like the rest of the show. :)
6. Pretty much the same thing. My husband, son and ex-husband (non-book readers) all have been able to follow along with very little explaining.
7. My husband, a non-book reader who loved season one gave it an "8 or 9". (I have already voted by 8). He thought Lena Headly did a great job and he loves/hates Jeoffery. He keeps begging me to tell him that Jeoff will die. Jack Gleason is doing an amazing job of playing the complete ass. Since he doesn't have the books to compare it to, he judges it on the story presented and the quality of the acting. He really is a snob about his actors, so this is pretty haigh praise.
8. Cod Cakes I tried several different recipes, but I found I liked the ones with the potatoes best. 1 lb of cod fillets 2 medium-sized russett potatoes 1 cup bread crumbs 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley 2 Tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 2 eggs, lightly beaten Grapeseed oil, or other high smoke point oil such as canola oil, for frying Boil and mash the potatoes, set them aside. Boil the codfish until it flakes easkly. Drain and flake the fish with a fork. Be sure to remove all bones. Mix the flaked fish, the potatoes and the rest of the ingredients together well by hand. If the mixture is too crumbly, add another egg. If too sticky, add some more bread crumbs. Form the mixture into cakes and fry them on medium high heat in a skillet coated with oil. Makes about 12 cakes
9. I have started adding ADWD recipes, so I wanted to put up a warning that my blog now has ADWD SPOILERS, so use caution if you have not read it yet.
10. I just want to say that "I" am Pip's mom and have been since 1989 :P (Pip is the nickname I gave my son, Phillip---but because of his sister's speech problems, not his own. ;) )
11. I have a food blog where I have tried to recreate some of the feasts from the books. It is a work in progress, but has over 30 recipes already. Most of the recipes are either medieval or original, using medieval ingrediants or methods. I didn't limit myself to the few things mentioned, but tried to fill in an entire feast. (The feast to welcome Robert to the North has been going on for 4 hours by the time we get a 'view' of it) Just for fun, I have been working on another ASOIAF related collection: Making the Eight on a Plate---trying to come up with a "signature" dish from each of the 8 areas mentioned on that tee-shirt. (Link in my signature) I'll fill in a few more as I work on my re-read of the books (I know there are things mentioned in there) I do quote some of the food descriptions, so there might be a few spoilers. These can be avoided by just looking at the list of recipes along the right side of the blog. Most things should be pretty easy to recreate. Enjoy!
12. I know that is what you meant. I am very emotional about it, so I shared my husbands feelings on it. He likes it a great deal, and you still discounted his opinion and insulted him. You think yours is the only viable opinion. There are no misunderstandings here.
13. He hates pro wrestlings and has never watched it. Your point was we are too much emotionally envolved----my husband had no emotional attachment, loves it, and so you insult him with the wrestling comment. Your opinion does not equal fact.
14. my husband has no emotional attachment to the series (at least he didn't when the show started). He has never read a single word GRRM has written, never met the man, never wanted to and just barely tolerates my idolization. His facts say this is the best series on TV. His facts say King Robert is very well done; his facts say he was ready to ride with Drogo; his facts say he learned a lot about Littlefinger in that brothel scene. I might get used to a world where opinion equals fact. I gave the episode a 9---(yes, it was the brothel scene that lowered)
15. This dish is called Zirbaya and is from a 14th century Andalusian Cookbook. I generally just use about 2 pounds if boneless, skinless chicken breasts, and serve it over white rice or cuscus. The kids love it and call it “cinnamon toast” chicken. I cube the boneless breasts and it cooks a lot faster than the 40 minutes listed (I also think it works much better as there is more flavor on the meat), so it is a good idea to grind your almonds before hand. 1 chicken, 3 lb 1 t salt 1/2 t pepper 1 t coriander 2 t cinnamon 20 threads saffron 2 T wine vinegar 2 T olive oil 4 oz = 2/3 c almonds 1/2 c sugar 4 T rosewater Put cut-up chicken, spices, vinegar, and oil into pot. Bring to boil, cook covered over moderate to low heat 40 minutes, stirring periodically to keep the chicken from sticking. Blanch and grind almonds, mix with sugar and rosewater to make a paste. Stir this in with chicken, bring back to a boil and cook about 8 minutes until sauce thickens. Serves 4-6 people.
16.
Things aint looking good for poor Theon. How exacly did his hair turn white? It sounds like hes aged about forty years.
I think it had something to do with the malnutrition and general situation. He had been down there for months (has an pretty gross beard too) and at one point wonders if it might have been years and he lost them in maddness, but it couldn't have been, he realizes, when he sees that the Walders are still boys, then he thinks again, maybe they are the children of the boys he once knew.
17.
I like the way this storyline has gone. I really wanted to see Theon get his comeuppance but now that he has... its not at all as satisfying as I'd hoped.
it is really hard to not feel sorry for how much of a broken man he is now. He still has a few thoguhts of "Theon" but he is not the person he once was. Perhaps he will live again* as "Theon" stronger than before? * I mean, now he IS Reek, but there are still a few flashes of Theon inside him.
18.
Also, any interesting details about the Dreadfort itself?
Torture seems to be the main activity at the Dreadfort. Theon is thinking about how he hears all the screaming and how the women scream the loudest. To me it seemed (from his POV) that this happened all the time. He is being held in the dungeon, and it is very dark and he is rarely fed. His cell is at or near the end and he can hear the foot steps as people (the Walders in this case) approach it. That is when we first get how deep his fear is.
19.
Lord Bolton isn't present. I'll post more later.
I had to reread that. It was that Theon kept referring to Ramsey as the Lord. Sorry guys. I was a little tired last night.
Well, that was creepy.
Indeed. The graphic descriptions were certainly creepy and gave me a bit of a chill. I finised the first rushed reading of it and all I could think was "OMG! I love George!"
20. It starts with "Reek" in the dungeon and he catches a rat and is eating it. The person has obviously suffered a whole lot at the hands of the Boltons and he is very much afraid. Some of the torture he endured is revealed when they talk about his finger being flayed. Seems the never dressed or cared for the wounds and the finger was rotting and painful and Reek tried to bite it off. Reek has to remind himself to "serve and obey' and that his "name is Reek. It rhymes with meek" When he is brought before the court, Lord Bolton his bastard son and two other lords are present. One is Karstak and I am not sure who the other is. He is old and gaunt and wears a ragged bearskin jerkin. Both little and big Walder are also present and kept well. Reek's hair and skin have turned white and he looks like an old man. It takes a few minutes before the lords recognize him. Ramsey tells Reek (and it is mad obvious by this point that Reek is Theon) that he is to marry Arya Stark and he wants Reek to serve him when he does. Ramsey has a task for him, but doesn't say what it is, but he is to be cleaned up and fed properly, and he will ride with Ramsey to fetch (fake) Arya.
21. SPOILER: It is a matter of perspective and my one major hang upWhen Melanie and Ned spend the night together and Melanie pretty much tells Ned she is willing to have sex with him. Sorry, but a woman in her mid 20's coming on to a 15 yr old boy is creey in my book. Had he been 18 or nealy so, it would have been ok. Underaged sex is a major hang up of mine when adults are involved. I loved how she was willing to wait to his 16th birthday...still not ok in my book. there are two ways to look at this...that the target audience is young boys or, and I felt this at the time SPOILER: thatshe is still channelling Ysabel a little at that time...but I really wasn't sure she was as she said she had his birthday in her PDA
22. ok, I had read a previous comment* and since it is primarily about a 15 yr old who the actual adults can't do anything without it made since when I saw that comment. Plus the ending had me raising my eyebrows a bit...but if the target audiance was 15 yr old boys, it makes sense and is a little less creepy. *
23. I just finished Ysabel. I didn't realize it was meant to be young adult and that explains alot. I can forgive most of the faults in it when taking into account the target audiance (weak character development topping the list)
