  1. 2016 KC WorldCon: MidAmeriCon II Aug 17-21

UberX should be about $25 (+/- 5). Lacy - I get in Tuesday @ 1:45 PM, probably not checking luggage. Happy to have anyone around jump in my cab.

Nice, looking forward to seeing you guys! Just you and the wife?

Sold to you then. Will PM. I happen to arrive on Tuesday, but that's mostly because I probably have to do some work/conference calls Wed/Thu morning. I think most people get in Wed/Thu. There a way to do a poll here or on facebook?

That's literally my con-trip report... Please for the love of god, nobody bring ghost peppers. Because I get drunk, then am easily persuaded into doing stupid shit like ghost pepper shots (although was worth it in San Antonio).... Also, I'm an idiot and somehow managed to buy 2 memberships. If anyone wants to buy one of mine, let me know. Pretty sure I paid $185 (current price is $210).

Coming up fast... may have to change my dates though. : ( Trying to skip going to NYC for work that week.
  6. Doh, miss this by a day. Heading to northern england on the 29th!
  7. If you love MOO1/2, is Stallaris more in line with that? Considering picking it up since next Civ is 6 months away.
  8. Just built a new rig (old one was pretty old), and decided to go high end. Been playing SWTOR for a good 6 months, but its getting a littel boring. I only play 5-6 hours a week... any recommendations on new games? (I prefer RPGs usually) Thinking about GTA or going back at playing Fallout 3/4... just wondering if it is worth it.
  9. SpaceX -- Rockets, Spacecraft, and Mars

For sure. Another option would be to potentially move the ISS to Mars when it becomes obsolete. Not sure what sort of lift/power would be required to get it over there, but seems to me repurposing/remodeling in space may be a better option that launching a shit ton of new stuff.
  10. I think its a 4 hour train ride between St Petersburg and Moscow on the Saspan high speed train, with 10 trains leaving per day. I think its about same time to get from St Petersburg to Helsinki via train as well.
  11. Starting to do some pre-planning for next year. Thinking about doing Moscow for 3 days, St Petersburg for 3 days, then Helsinki for 4 days, taking the train between each. I may add a day later (depends on vacation for my wife), but could chop one of the cities, or switch to other cities in Europe. Never been to any of those 3 cities (but am in London all the time, and going to Paris in 2 months), so any feedback would be great.
  12. SpaceX -- Rockets, Spacecraft, and Mars

I'd hope they use the extra power/space to put in a return option to do some sort of sample return.
  13. Survivor: Kaôh Regōng Trail

I feel like Aubrey is getting an edit similar to Sophie. She's a quiet woman, so tends to fall into the background really easily, but they keep putting her into all the episodes, and has a relatively favorable edit. Jason, Cydney and Tai (and Scot) tend to be oversized characters, so they keep dominating airtime. Aubrey's the only other person getting screen time. Michelle and Joe have barely shown up for the past few episodes. Tai's play is really confusing. On one hand he could be paranoid, but he seemed to have a really solid alliance. He has the advantage, and was guaranteed the final 3. Who else would he want to sit at the end with? It seemed like a no brainer for Scot and Jason to keep being the hated pair and him landing the votes... with a crafty use of the idol and advantage, with some of his challenge victories, he has a solid case to win.
  14. Chareerchat II: Production of Means

We do excel tests with all our managers and analysts. A surprising number of "experts" suck at basic modeling and fail it. Being in Finance, generally I trust people that have been promoted at another fortune 500 company. Disney usually doesn't promote morons from Analyst to Manager, same for most other Fortune 500 companies. Folks from small companies are a lot tougher to judge, since generally I won't know someone who worked there (so no informal referral), and we have no idea if they were VP of running a TPS report or a legitimate candidate. For folks at manager or above, we usually do 2 rounds of 3+ hour interviews. I put my last Director hire through a brutal 8 hours of interviews between the 2 rounds. I usually tell my candidates that if our hiring process was a joke, you can expect your coworkers are a joke too... so be glad we are tough (or find somewhere else to work).
  15. SpaceX -- Rockets, Spacecraft, and Mars

Pretty badass. With a low cost sample return mission, it also opens up the possibility of doing mining missions to asteroids.
