Hedge Knight

Hedge Knight (5/8)

  1. Well, geography makes that pretty much impossible. Frankly, I don't know what Stannis would be doing if he didn't arrive at the Wall, because he was mostly a non-factor in the WoTFK after Blackwater.
  2. I used to dislike the Meereenese plotline, but I changed my mind after checking the summaries of Barristan's sample chapters and rereading Dany's, Tyrion's, Quentyn's, Barristan's and Victarion's chapters from ADwD. It's really not as bad as many people believe, but since ADwD is a massive book with many POV characters and Westeros is the main focus of the series, the Meereenese plotline easily loses steam and it's hard to remember all the details. Moreover, the lack of battle at the end makes everything a bit unsatisfying. IMO it will be a lot better when TWoW comes out and fans will no longer have to wait several years to see how the Meereenese Knot is untangled. When you think about it, there is really a lot going on in the region. We have the whole Harpy thing, the uncertain loyalties of Hizdair, the Green Grace and Shavepate, the ongoing siege, the plague, the rampaging dragons, the dragon horn, incoming fleets of the ironborn and Voltanis, Dany and the Dothraki etc. I'm now actually very curious to see how it will all play out and Barristan's sample chapters make me think that it will be a hell of a ride.
  3. This episode is nowhere near as bad as many people claim it is. The burning scene was disturbing, but it was MEANT to be disturbing, and I think that the acting was excellent. Selyse was convincing as a fanatic who showed her mother's feelings during the critical moment. Stannis didn't become a monster. He actually showed more emotions than ever and was clearly shocked by the whole thing. Remember that he was disgusted by the idea when Mel first proposed it. He did it only because he felt he had no other choice. Seriously, his supply situation was terrible even BEFORE Ramsay's attack and it has been snowing since then. Yes, they fucked some things up (for example, why the HELL Balon is still alive?), and many things could have been done better. However, it's still a quite good episode IMO. It certainly doesn't deserve 1/10 or 2/10. I'm wondering how it will all play out in the books. I'm certain that the burning itself will happen, but the context and the details will be different. Still, it sounds like a possible heartwrenching scene.
  4. To be perfectly honest, Dany's chapters were the worst part of CoK for me. Qarth wasn't fun at all.
  5. It seemed rather goofy. I guess that they wanted to make it feel grand and all, but for me, it was just cheap. The crowdsurfing, the camera angles, "Mhysa!" shouts - it just didn't work for me. Plus, it was too long. The music was good, but in the context of the scene, that nice track somehow made the whole thing even MORE cheesy. However, it's hard to say whether the show is entirely to blame - it's been a while since I have read Dany's chapters from SOS, so I don't remember what was different in the book. The only thing which I truly liked about it was Jorah's reaction. Felt appropriate. The actor is good at expressing emotions even without dialogue.
  6. Racist? Well, I'm sure that you will see racism in the last scene, if that's what you want to see. Not that I'm terribly surprised - I guess that if 25% of slaves were white, some people would be upset that it was not 50%. Would you feel better if Dany was black? There were many bad things about that scene, but it was not racist IMO. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that we will see more cheesy Dany scenes next season, but I hope that Dany will start having problems, too. We need to see her failing badly at ruling, we need some conflicts. I know that the showrunners love Dany, but hopefully, they won't underplay her failures and struggles. I don't like Dany's storyline after GOT very much, but I sort of like the fact that GRRM played with a-liberator-saves-the-day convention.
  7. Some people are exaggerating IMO. Yes, the final scene was a bit cheesy we it lacked the oomph you expect from the finale. I also think that they went a bit overboard in Jon-Ygritte scene - Ygritte arrived extremely fast, Jon took too many arrows, you start to wonder why the wildlings south of the Wall are such a threat if there are so few of them there etc., but they botched Jon's escape, too, so that was just a follow-up. Not sure I like what they did to Stannis, but I think it's for the greater good - he will kick ass in season 4! I was disappointed that Jaime barely appeared at all. Anyway, I cannot say that I liked all scenes in that episode, but it certainly had many good bits. Tywin, Tyrion, Joffrey, Davos, Walder, Roose, Arya and The Hound were great. I loved the RobbWind scene, too - that "King In the North" chat was a great idea. BTW Gendry escaping on a rowboat, alone? LOL :D. I give this 7/10. Not the best, not the worst.
  8. What have they done? I'm not able to watch the episode right now :(.
  9. 9/10. I would give 10, but the battle of Yunkai was totally unrealistic crap. The fighting sequence in Queenscrown was poor, too, although I liked the eagle.
  10. I didn't like the fighting scenes in this episode, i.e. the ones in Yunkai and in Queenscrown. Especially the Yunkish one looked like sth out of a crappy video game. Too many enemies, too many fake-ish moves. Besides that, everything was almost perfect. Great episode.
  11. Here is the most important question ever - what grand wisdom Loras wanted to share with Cersei before she cut him off so politely? ;)
