  1. I've seen a few instances like this and its always been called offside. Henrichs obstructed the GK i.e. interfered with play from an offside position. Right call imo. Whether Lunin would have actually gotten to the ball is not relevant. ETA. also, VAR did not give this decision. The decision was made by the on field officials. The linesman put up his flag immediately and the VAR simply did not overrule the on field decision which was also the right call because this was not a clear and obvious error.
  2. Big blow for Villa. Kamara is out for the season after rupturing his ACL - third ACL injury this season for Villa after Mings and Buendia. There are also some rumours that Konsa's knee injury (picked up against Sheffield United) might be worse than initially thought.
  3. Ivory Coast winning the AFCON caps off a pretty great tournament. Their road to winning the tournament was chaotic: - lost to Nigeria in the groups. - got demolished 4-0 by Equatorial Guinea. - sacked their manager. - were on the verge of elimination until Ghana bottled a 2-0 lead against Mozambique in added time which meant Ivory Coast qualified as one of the four best third placed teams. - came from behind to beat Senegal on penalties in the round of 16. - came from behind to beat Mali in the QF's playing with 10 men since the 43rd minute - scored the equaliser in the 92nd minute and winning goal in the 122nd minute. - beat the DRC in a hard fought game in the semifinal - came from behind to beat Nigeria in the final. - Haller coming up trumps when he was needed most scoring the winning goals in both the semis and the final.
  4. Bayern should get Alonso for next season. Sacking Nagelsmann for Tuchel was a big mistake. Tuchel has Bayern playing their worst football since Kovac. Tuchel is just another Mourinho/Conte. He can get results for a limited time but the football will not be pretty and he'll inevitably pick fights with everyone and get sacked. Ancelotti is doing a really good job at Real this season. Their defensive record/play has been excellent despite all the injury disruption they've had in defence this season (they had no CBs available for today's game for instance but Girona never had a sniff) and they are coping very well without a proper CF too.
  5. It was a foul on Ramsey imo. Just another example of why players tend to embellish contact. Ramsey was punished there for staying on his feet.
  6. Yeah, 2/3rds majority. Normally a minimum of 14 out of 20 votes are needed but since two clubs abstained, a minimum of 12 out of 18 votes were needed.
  7. As an outsider view, it's pretty disappointing to see how the media portrays the 'gaffes' of Biden and Trump. Seems to me that Trump is given A LOT more leeway while Biden is treated much more harshly (and it's not just Fox News) even though Biden is magnitudes more coherent than Trump. This leads me to believe that there is no progressive major media house in the US (despite Republican snowflakes forever crying about left wing MSM) but rather just different shades of right wing. Seems pretty clear to me that the major media houses are pro Trump because he'd be good for business. Biden is not forever in the headlines because of some inflammatory/moronic bullshit he did/said (which is something that should be desirable in a president but is not so good for the sensationalist media) plus he's done a pretty decent job at getting legislation passed in a hostile environment - he's been a good president imo even though the MAGA types and a certain section of progressive crybabies think otherwise. It's unfortunate that the US voters have to choose between two people past their sell by dates but the two party system is deeply entrenched and there's no chance of that changing barring some catastrophic event so the choice is between Biden and an extremely dangerous moron. Unfortunately both the electoral college and the main stream media favour the dangerous moron while a section of progressives continues to swallow and parrot the talking points of the right wing.
  8. Reports that Thiago has actually suffered a serious hamstring injury which means he's likely played his last game for Liverpool.
  9. Sin bins should be a good addition. Obviously the weak link is going to be the application. To stamp down on dissent, this would need to be strictly and consistently applied. There should be additional measures put in place as well to really clamp down on dissent imo - a review panel to hand out retrospective suspensions in cases where the ref fails to issue a blue card when he should have and points deductions for clubs when they hit a certain threshold for their players being booked for dissent. When blue cards do eventually come in at the top level, the other rule under consideration (i.e. only captains are allowed to speak to the ref about decisions) needs to come in at the same time as well - no more crowding the ref.
  10. Joyce reporting that Thiago is injured again. Sustained a muscle injury in the last game.
  11. Son and KMJ heading back early to Spurs and Bayern. Those clubs will be thrilled. South Korea were well outplayed by Jordan though. 2-0 was flattering to South Korea. Klinsmann must surely get the sack now.
  12. A little bit of good news regarding Lisandro. His injury is apparently not as bad as first feared - there were concerns that he'd torn his MCL or ACL. Turns out he has a sprained collateral ligament which will keep him out for 6–8 weeks and does not require surgery.
  13. Liverpool are still the most likely team to challenge City. They are still ahead of Arsenal in the table and have a number of key players coming back. Should be a good 3-way title race though - I'd be surprised if Arsenal fold quite so easily as they did last season when the pressure was on.
  14. Arsenal have been far better but one second of brain-dead defending gets Liverpool level when they should be two or three down.
  15. Looks like Lisandro's injury might keep him out for a while according to Ten Hag's comment. That's a massive blow.
  16. Kane on the score sheet again. 17 more goals needed to break Lewandowski's record. Good to see Kane receiving the recognition he deserves. A lot of non PL watchers previously seemed to be under the impression that Kane is overrated just because he's English. They now seem to have come around to what PL watchers have known for years i.e. Kane is the best CF in the world.
  17. That's pretty pathetic from La Liga and the RFEF. Vinícius Jr. is racially abused in almost every game and they just brush it off as him asking for it or it's part of the game and he should get over it.
