  1. Cardio clotting? LV thrombus? STEMI? What do you mean? Do you know what you mean? What’s a turbo cancer?
  2. Few among the "convoy" were truckers. They were, however, would-be insurrectionists and thought they could negotiate the resignation of the PM in favour of rule by themselves in concert with the Senate and Governor-General. And the Leafs are just a lost cause.
  3. Maybe they're all a bit more like Waylon Smithers and his Malibu Stacey collection than they let on?
  4. Most CBC stations in Newfoundland broadcast Radio One in AM. St John's got an FM station a few years ago finally, but all the other larger centres (Corner Brook, Grand Falls, Gander) are still without. So I listen to 990 AM constantly in the car as a result.
  5. I was *thrilled* to see La’an and Kirk wandering around Yonge-Dundas Square, shoplifting from the Roots in the Eaton Centre, and then walking all the way down to Harbourfront to get hot dogs and win some colourful CDN$ cash with, um, high stakes chess. Also I’m pretty sure that secret lab is in the CS building at UofT. Also lampshading the “Toronto standing in for New York in movies and TV” trope directly with Kirk’s “appears to be NYC” comment. Evidently in this not-too-distant future, Ryerson reverted to its old name or TMU never bothered to change the sign (definitely the latter). All that aside, I enjoyed the character moments in the episode. La’an is probably my fav at this point other than Pike.
  6. I subscribe online to the Globe and the Star. And listen/read CBC all the time. Who needs monopolistic Big Tech rent seekers?
  7. Don't forget John Tory and all those establishment types who wanted Ana "status quo" Bailao. Of course, Tory - who caused this election by resigning because he couldn't keep it in his pants with a subordinate - had pledged not to be involved or to endorse anyone. And then he did just that. Didn't work out though.
  8. Some interesting interpretations of the final scene with Tom and Shiv, namely about the hand gestures, namely as a reference to Jan Van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait.
  9. Well, no PC/UCP premier has lasted a full term since Stelmach. So, four years of Rachel Notley and the NDP aside, that's 7 years with 5 different premiers. Sure, Danielle Smith can pander to the Take Back Alberta crowd, but that will finally alienate the old-timey PC crowd who expect her to be short lived either way. There's quite the level of delusion among the Calgary oil industry establishment types who expect Smith's tendencies toward lunatic policies and ideas to be short lived. So the UCP will come apart - it's just a question of to what degree and when. But even if they won a majority of the vote, that's almost entirely based on the rural base - the NDP could've won a majority of seats with about 1300 more voters across a couple Calgary area ridings. And the UCP majority is based on 49 out of 87 seats. Then down to 48 because there needs to be a speaker elected. It will only take 5 disgruntled MLAs or independents or defections or "events" generally to whittle this government down and it WILL be very unstable. For now, Rachel Notley is sticking around, but the NDP won more votes and a higher popular vote than, well, ever before, including in 2015. Flip 6 or 7 seats and they win a majority. Gain another 5% of the vote and it will be a blowout. Alberta is now super divided in a way that is fairly unprecedented. But I don't think the UCP is going to be "united" much longer...
  10. So excited. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to watch (too late over in Canada's weirdo half hour time zone).
  11. This right there. Did we even see Connor in this episode??
  12. Vadic is General Chang's daughter. Wrong us, shall we not revenge?
  13. That plot line had a bit of a Citizen Kane vibe - of course, Logan was one much more likely to cut his losses and move on. I agree with others that I wouldn't have thought I would be as engaged in the show post-Logan, but... it's working for me. So, who's going to come out on top here? If history is any guide, it won't be any of the Triumvirate of Kendall, Roman, and Shiv.
  14. That was the best. What did he say about Tom - a bumbling interloper? I would watch this. Their little kitchen conversation was great.
  15. Haven't watched tonight, but Kendall feels whole and seasoned now. He is, contrary to what Logan thinks, perhaps now a serious person. I love Gerri. You know even if she leaves the company she's walking away with an exceptional severance package (is she still CEO of Waystar?). And Karolina is my crush. Glad to see her back at last.
  16. We just went through a mortgage pre-approval. Aside from tax returns, we provided statements of investment accounts, details of various liabilities past and present, access to credit, and there were multiple emails and phone calls back and forth with the mortgage specialist at the bank. Of course this is in Canada where we haven't had a major banking failure in a century. Our existing fixed rate is 1.9% until 2025.
  17. Tom and Shiv are done... maybe. I can't really tell. I have no idea where this season will go. Kerry didn't have too much to do last season, but her roasting Greg right at the start was sublime. That was, of course, topped by Tom's bullshitting Greg into confessing. Connor is just pathetic. Somehow more than before.
  18. I'm hoping that it becomes obvious in Ontario that Doug Ford and his government of scum-sucking puss buckets will be entirely responsible for this strike and the associated disruption. Because they are. Also the Notwithstanding Clause is becoming untenable. It should be repealed. If Quebec's politics around language and religion make its use there something of an aberration, the Ford government is using it to rule by decree and avoid judicial scrutiny, running roughshod over Canadians' rights. If this continues, it will end up like Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution that let the Reichsprasident rule by decree. That didn't end well.
  19. I thought this episode dragged a bit (oddly mostly in some of the Tyrion scenes), but still gave it an 8. I'm continuing to love every moment of Theon's ill-conceived conquest of Winterfell. The Asha scenes worked very well - "Yara" or not, I think they've captured the character well as someone who both exudes authority and charisma while not quite having the "iron" heart of some of her family members. As for Robb, I remain convinced that Talisa is Jeyne, her story about Volantis notwithstanding (as a side note, I really loved Volantis as a setting in Dance, so it was cool to hear some exposition about it here). At this point, Robb has merely had sex with her - breaking the marriage pact isn't really effected by having an affair. And Jaime and Brienne!! But somehow that first scene with Tyrion and Bronn dragged. I'm not sure why - maybe it was the directing or just the speed of the dialogue, but it felt too long. Ditto for the Tyrion/Cersei scene. Generally speaking these scenes have been among the most effective, so I'm not sure what happened this week. Dany/Jorah was okay, but I'd be fine if they just left her aside for an episode rather than a token appearance. Onward to the Houses of the Undying. Arya's "third name" was pretty good, and I expect that the last episode title indicates that we haven't yet seen the last of Jaqen. Tywin's remark about her is something of a re-working of what Bolton says when he makes her his cupbearer. I just read the Weasel soup chapter the other day - it's good, but I honestly don't understand why everyone seems so worked up about that change. Stannis and Davos are great as ever. Looking forward to next week! Lastly, if I could make one change from the book, I'd spare Maester Luwin. I always felt his death before and if it happens this time it will be much worse I fear. :(
  20. True... but it was still a long, deep, full thickness wound into subcutaneous tissue and (probably) muscle made by a dirty blade. Wouldn't take much for that to become infected... Anyway, great episode, no qualms or complaints whatsoever. Reading some of these posts here, however, is reminding me a little too much of the kind of nitpicking and anal attention to minute details that is characteristic of Trekkies...
