  1. That would raise a lot of questions; Are there any specific criteria for becoming a professional bounty hunter? What institution hands out licenses? Do you need to take a test beforehand? Et cetera, et cetera.
  2. Why did Jaime give Brianne the assignment, then? Was she the only one he could trust?
  3. With that kind of luck, he should pursue gambling for a living.
  4. Although Charles XII had more valid reasons to go to war than Daeron ! did. Charles had an alliance of three countries who wanted to bite off pieces of his territory. Daeron decided to conquer Dorne without being provoked.
  5. It's quite frustrating that Brienne spends the entirety of AFFC looking for Sansa to no avail, while Shadrich finds her pretty much right away. Maybe that's intentional too.
  6. To be fair, she isn't actually in Meereen anymore. A small win, but a welcome one. In all seriousness, though, if I was in GRRM's inner circle, I would tell him that it's impossible to please everyone and that he should just go with something. But that's simply not how he operates.
  7. I first read it as “Is it true that Daeron and I had no issue”. I really need some coffee.
  8. Sounds like a bastard name from the Inn at the Crossroads.
  9. Things would be much better if the Masters of Meereen enjoyed podracing instead of gladiatorial combat.
  10. Perfectionism is definitely part of it, which likely leads to some of the other reasons. This is what he said when he was writing Dance: "Although I had "completed" something on the order of five Jon chapters before deciding to divide the book, I was never really happy with them, and rereading them now has reinforced my feelings. They need to be much stronger, and I believe I see how to do that now. " Now imagine this times ten for Winds, with both the audience and the expectations being much bigger. I have critisized GRRM for a variety of reasons over the years. I still stand by some of them, others not so much, in hindsight. But I certainly do not envy him in this situation.
  11. His words are supposed to make sense after the fact. "Fool's blood, king's blood, blood on the maiden's thigh, but chains for the guests and chains for the bridegroom, aye aye aye" is foreshadowing for the Red Wedding, for example.
  12. But Great noble houses, like the Starks, randomly losing members at a tourney without anyone caring is a bridge too far even for a period of decadence.
  13. Is Maester Aemon wrong about dragons not being male nor female?
  14. If we're talking about the BBC show Merlin, maybe. I haven't seen it myself, but Merlin is supposed to be quite young there.
  15. I really hope that we'll get more info in book form sooner rather than later.
  16. As far as I'm aware, GRRM hasn't expressed any opinion at all regarding execution of oathbreakers. I haven't seen a quote, at least. My impression from reading the books is that he does subscribe to the principle of "He who passes the sentence should swing the sword", though.
  17. I think the problem is that you often present your completely subjective opinions as absolute facts, with no room for debate. This is supposed to be a forum for discussion, at the end of the day.
  18. She never perceived them as scum, though. It’s made clear early in AGoT that she is more comfortable among commoners than among highborn people. She befriends Micah rather than Myrcella on their way to King’s Landing, for example.
  19. She is gradually becoming one. We can see it in the way she handles Harry the Heir in her TWOW sample chapter.
  20. As opposed to a 9-year-old travelling to another continent on her own to become an assassin?
