  1. Fortunately for PP, leftists are far better at threatening violence, than actually applying it. "Want to slap his face off, want to hit his punchable face". I doubt either of you have ever even been in an actual fight. Stay in your lane, and resume threatening politicians you dislike in a more realistic manner.
  2. Another reason besides Amazon picking up The Expanse to support Prime I guess. Long ago I converted my B5 DVDs to digital. I'd be all over a remastered release, in any form it may take, and count myself fortunate. I wonder if the B5 tv films would be included in a remastered release, hear anything about that Werthead?
  3. Brad Dourif is one of my favorite actors, he saved the one episode IMO, I only wish he'd been given a larger role in the B5 world. His character and arc in ST Voyager was fantastic, particularly his final episode, it was one of the few redeeming things about ST V from my perspective. Interesting read as usual, I particularly enjoy the "behind the scenes" information. The convent and nuns bit, this is a specific example of one of the many reasons I enjoy reading Werthead's work and analysis.
  4. I never said he was critical of free press, only that from all I've read and the interviews and cons I've heard JMS speak, he respected the press, and the freedom of the press. Yet, in the story, regardless of who was controlling or giving the marching orders, still wasn't afraid to make ISN look both very bad, and then, very heroic after Clarke's fall. There were episodes pre Clarke and very early in Clarke's rule prior to him consolidating his power where ISN was shown to have its own agenda IMO. That's how I look at it, I certainly didn't say he was criticizing free press, or ISN as free press, that wasn't my intention at all, sorry for not being clear. The prescient part, I was referring to the advent of technology, and the effect it would have on the press. None of the communist regimes, as I recall at least, had anything resembling what we have now, or ISN represented in that future - that was my point specifically, that abusing authority and turning that on the press - something that is happening right now with the current regime and certain news orgs - very similar to the Clarke/ISN theme, made possible by us all being interconnected instantly thanks to technology. Busy couple weeks, I'll read your new stuff tomorrow Werthead, thank you again for all your work with this.
  5. Hah, I'm surprised I've not thought of that before, but you're absolutely right, so much of B5's portrayal of the media through ISN was very prescient. Everyone always gives ST TNG and DS9 cred for things like Ipads and such, but B5 and how they handled the press is even better IMO. Surprising to me in a way too, as JMS is and always has been a big supporter of the freedom of the press - impressive that he wasn't afraid to criticize them, particularly since back then the only "big" cable news service was the mighty CNN.
  6. I`d never read the comics, nor did I know any of their stories or information. Very interesting indeed, it`s odd that being such a huge B5 fan, rewatching the series yearly, that I`ve never known this... Great work Werthead, I hope you continue this thread and work.
  7. Deathwalker was great, I loved Londo's line "Well, all's well that ends well" - such great delivery and timing, and was perfect in every other way so far as the character goes. I wish the series had shown us more about the war with the Dilgar, perfect opportunity for some flash back episodes or scenes that never ended up happening. I've always hoped that a reboot would focus on that war and time period, or at least, again, have some flash back eps/scenes.
  8. Hah, I remember hearing JMS talk about swallowing a mitful of Percocet (PercoDan back then) due to a dental emergency right before his pitch, and that the words just spilled out of him in such a positive manner from being out of pain, that he swept their doubts away. Funny how the world turns on such small things, no broken tooth = probably no B5 in the universe. Deep. I'm looking forward to your opinions on a first viewing on a few of those B5 films Werthead.
  9. Werthead, will you include the B5 TV films in your review, after season 5 perhaps? I'm interested to read you opinion on them, including the terrible Legend/Rangers and the 2007 dual episode Lost Tales disc. IIRC there were 5 or 6 TV films as well prior to the Rangers and Lost Tales, I hope you cover these as well. The Lost Tales CGI was much improved IMO, imagine what a re-boot or B5 feature film could look like now...there was one 30 second clip of Centauri ships fighting near earth vs EF cap ships and fighters that really impressed me. Now 10 years later, I imagine it could be even better, not that this is what made/makes B5 great, but it certainly contributes to the great stories and characters.
  10. Really enjoying your work so far Wert, looking forward to the next installment.
  11. Well JMS's Sense8 project has been cancelled, maybe he'll consider pushing a new B5 story of some kind with Netflix. I agree though that it would be in his best interest to get B5 on Netflix/streaming, rights or no rights. DS9 and Star Trek/etc have HUGE ratings on Netflix, I remember a couple years ago when I was campaigning to get the Star Trek 4 TV series added to the Canadian Netflix library (back during the big VPN crackdown, US Netflix had the 4 TV series, but not Canada), Netflix told me themselves that TNG and DS9 were 2 of the higher used programs in their catalogue. B5 would be similar I'll wager. It would show Netflix that there is interest in the stories, characters, and creators still.
  12. I just rewatched "The Gathering" last week. I remember reading that Stephen Furst nearly lost a foot to diabetes complications, and lost a lot of weight and changed his eating/exercise habits during the filming of the TV series, you can see in later seasons he really trimmed down. A shame the disease never left him, another great actor and person gone. So many have gone early from this great series. I think I'm going to do a re watch too, Wert are you planning a thread for a B5 re re watch? Such great information in the OP, I loved the ship designs in B5, even some at NASA thought so much of them that they became interested in that "workhorse" Star Fury type ship, I'm sure Werthead knows the name of what I'm talking about, it was featured in one of the TV movies IIRC. Other ships as well though, particularly the Earth vessels that didn't have artificial gravity, very interesting designs. Early CGI work was great IMO back when B5 came out. It was the 2nd sci fi series I discovered, the first being DS9, and having B5 recommended to me by a co worker, and fell in love with it. I really like "The Gathering", found it better than most Season 1 episodes in fact. Delenn's make up and character were very interesting in this pilot or whatever you want to call it - I wish they'd kept some of her traits and look the same for the first season until she "changed". I read Claudia's autobiography last year, I wish Jerry Doyle had been able to apply the success she had with The Sinclair method to get a hold of his own demons with drinking. Such a shame. Doyle's stories about living with Katsulas are hilarious, especially the "free ham" story he's told a few times at conventions. I remember when Doyle passed JMS said "it isn't fair, how much more are we expected to take". Now Stephen.
  13. The butthurt of team Stannis is something to behold. I only wish that E Ro or whatever his name was, wasn't banned and was still here. Would have to have mailed him a tranquilizer. Good episode in terms of firing up Twitter at least.
  14. I knight thee Ser Triple Post. Stand and be recognized.
  15. Even now I could cut through the...10 of you, like carving a cake.
  16. I think considering the route D and D are taking with the books/tv show series to book line up, season 5 and 6 will have a disporportionate amount of Stannis. I mean, it'll have to right, considering that many other story lines are over due to deaths etc. I live in hope for a Stannis+10vorpal weapon season 5. Or episode 10. If Stannis and co get 25 mins of time in ep 10, the good times will roll.
  17. Wow, I can't believe it. Best episode of the entire series so far, even with the killing of 2 NW guys I wanted to keep watching.
  18. Heh, I'd never considered that either, in all the years of reading the books and following the thousands of theories on thiss bbs and elsewhere. Brilliant - an overused British word, but in this case, "quite" (another Britishy word) accurate. Did anyone else cheer when Lysa plummeted screaming to her death. Yay!
