  1. Does anyone else think the focus on Shireen we're getting on the show doesn't bode well for her character? I have a long-standing theory that Melisandre will eventually sacrifice her to resurrect/heal Jon, and scenes like this one and last season's (Melisandre interacting with Shireen, and later deciding she should come to the wall) make me think I might be onto something :(
  2. On Cersei's power: I think Littlefinger and Kevan are right, and her days of power are mostly over. When we see her wielding influence we see it through her eyes, so it looks like she still has a lot of power. My guess is that people are working against her behind the scenes, and that a lot will come crashing down once she's arrested. This is obviously only speculation, but I think there's a chance Pycelle will turn against her soon, what with the continuous humiliations - maybe he'll plead for Margaery and/or help condemn Cersei? I thought the execution could've been better. As others have suggested, Slynt's character wasn't reintroduced properly, and this wasn't half as satisfying as it could've been. This is the second time something that could've been a really big moment at the wall felt very underwhelming. I hope it means they're working up to even greater stuff, but I somehow doubt it. I seriously wonder where the Winterfell plotline is going. From the novels I was convinced Littlefinger's endgame was having Sansa to himself, as well as even greater power than Brandon Stark ever had. Now he doesn't seem to care about Sansa at all, which feels rather confusing after they set up the whole 'I know what you want'-thing last season. I agree with the people complaining about the unequal nudity. I thought the scene was a good idea, as it exposed a lot in just a couple of minutes, as was the fact that the Septon had to do the walk of shame; makes it less misogynistic and sets up Cersei's storyline well. However, putting those two scenes right after each other really highlighted the inequality and unnecessary female nudity. I somehow doubt they'll only show Lena Headey from the back...
  3. This episode was an odd one for me; there were scenes I absolutely loved (Arya! Stannis! The Hound!), and then there were some scenes that were (in my humble opinion) the very worst of the show thus far (the Pirates of the Caribbean-esque skeletons, nobody giving a shit that Jojen died, and Saruman in the tree to name just one example). Are anyone else's unsullied friends starting to get really confused? I spent a lot of time explaining stuff this episode, including but not limited to: the skeletons ('The fuck are those? What do you mean wights, didn't those have blue eyes?'), Tyrion's motivation for killing Tywin, the change in Cersei and Jaime's relationship (although admittedly I couldn't really answer that one either), Bloodraven, Jon trying to kill Mance after him giving Jon his excellent reason for wanting to get past the wall (another one I couldn't really answer) - the list goes on. Normally I get about one question max. That being said, there were a few scenes that were simply brilliant, my absolute favourite being Brienne and Arya meeting, the ensuing fight (which I felt might just as well have been in the books; it's the kind of frustrating thing GRRM could've written), and finally the conversation between Arya and the Hound. The acting there was truly spectacular. 'The Children' playing over Arya's departure of Westeros gave me goosebumps, brilliant work by Djawadi.
  4. ^ That's why I thought Mance lit the fire too. Although I did wonder why it took people so long to see it - doesn't it take time to get such a big-ass fire going?
  5. Went to see Pompeii the other week... I could never call money spent on Kit Harington's abbs in 3D wasted, but it really was a pretty dreadful film.
  6. Hi all! My name's Amber, and I have a wildly unimaginative username :p I had been lurking on this forum for several years before finally joining, as I simply enjoyed reading others' discussion without really feeling the need to join in. When I suddenly found myself with some free time on my hands I decided to start posting, and I haven't regretted it one moment :) I study English Literature at Cambridge, so while I spend the greater part of the year in England I'm originally from Belgium. My greatest hobby is reading, but I also enjoy writing, rowing, and taking long walks. I discovered ASoIaF some years ago; I was in Cambridge for my admission interview, but after the interview realised I hadn't brought any books that weren't related to said interview. I went into a bookshop, had a look around and found AGoT. While it appealed to me I actually didn't buy it, as I felt pretty drained from my interview and all the maps in the front and the name lists in the back made me think 'no way, not now' :p However, when I was home I found myself constantly thinking back on the book I'd shunned in favour of something that turned out to be absolute drivel, and decided to order it off Amazon. I never looked back since! :)
