I don't get Sansa's dislike for Tyrion

Panos Targaryen

OK, I understand her being physically repulsed by him and not wanting to have sex with him, but aside from that, why does she dislike and mistrust Tyrion so damn much? Throughout ACOK and ASOS she never seems to consider Tyrion as an ally, writing him off as just another Lannister who wants to harm her. During the wedding she refuses to kneel for him in order to humiliate him, all her thoughts about him consist of him being an ugly Lannister dwarf and nothing more, etc.

Considering that it is completely clear that Tyrion does not belong on the same category as Joffrey, why does Sansa see him this way?

He risked Joffrey's wrath and punishment when he chastised him for having Sansa beaten, which there's NO WAY he would have done if he was Joffrey's/Cersei's patsy, constantly bad mouths and mocks Joffrey and Cersei in front of Sansa, and offers Sansa protection multiple times. Plus, he actually used his authority as Hand of the King to end Sansa's beatings.

Yet she refuses to see that he in fact wants to help her, and that he hates Joffrey's and Cersei's guts as much as her. How can she believe all that when Tyrion is obviously trying to help her?

Hell, the way her POVs are written, she doesn't even seem to realize that Tyrion is actually risking his life to help her.

Oh boy this again. Sansa doesn't dislike him, on the contrary she well aware he is relatively friendly to her and she is thankful for it. In her second last chapter of ASOS she thinks to herself he was kind. She simply doesn't trust him, because he is a lannister and despite his dislike for his family he is loyal to his family and because of that she is wary of him and rightly so.

Loyal to his family? He constantly fantasizes about killing Cersei, actually killed Tywin, considers Joffrey completely worthless etc. He hates the Lannisters, he only helps them in order to survive and because he cares for Jamie. Also, because no other side in the war would trust him, so he can't just defect.

It's not him personally, but he's part of her situation, the man she was literally forced to marry, and a member of the family that had her father executed and her household murdered. She's had disaster on disaster happen to her and has withdrawn into a shell.

Tyrion was also forced to marry her, something she doesn't seem to realize. And Tyrion personally killed Tywin, the head of the family that she hates so much. He should be a damn hero in her eyes for doing that, not just "the ugly and disgusting Lannister dwarf". And by the way, how is Sandor better? He's also part of the situation, by being Joffrey's sworn shield and member of the Kingsguard, whose members beat Sansa, and serving the Lannisters. Yet she seems to like him, even inventing a kiss in her mind that never happened.

No, he wasn't.

The majority of that occurred after she escaped him or where his private thoughts he didn't share with her.

Simply, she doesn't like him as she doesn't have to like him.

It doesn't matter what he thinks because Sansa can't read his mind. He acts loyal to his family right up until his arrest by which time Sansa has gone. He doesn't have to defect from his family, he just has to stop supporting them, like Sandor stops supporting his family when Gregor becomes lord. He doesn't have to join another side unless he wants to keep playing the game of thrones, which he does which is why he is currently looking for Dany. He ended up on the bad side because he wasn't prepared to step away from power and Sansa is right to be wary of him for that.

I won’t. Why should I spare his feelings, when no one cares about mine?

She seems to want to mentally harm Tyrion here, not the Lannisters in general.

No, it doesn't. Instead, she implies she is not caring to protect his feelings when it gets in the way of her statement of opposition to the marriage. Moreover, she still kneels for him later when she realizes how hurt he is.

There's no way Tyrion could have said no to Tywin. Tywin sees members of his House as chess pieces to be moved however he wants to. Tyrion is no different. That's the plan Tywin had for him, no way he was gonna let a Stark/Lannister marriage opportunity pass simply because Tyrion didn't want it.

Yeah, what a bitch, she really should've spared the feelings of the guy who forcibly married her when she was 12...

Tywin directly gave him an option, moreover just because Tyrion is fearful of his father doesn't mean he cannot say no. Simply, Tywin isn't going to have Tyrion physically beaten if he says no while Sansa would have.

But for being ugly? That's too much to ask of someone like Sansa.

That must be why she has a crush on the ugly, burnt Sandor because she hates ugly people. Though to be fair, she is still better then Tyrion who as an ugly person still hates ugly people.

Sansa is no Professor Xavier she can't read his thoughts on his family and his actions told otherwise. He worked tirelessly to keep the Lannister hold on the Iron Throne and therefore Sansa distrusts him. Not everyone has to trust Tyrion.

He didn't forcibly marry her. Tyrion was forced into this marriage by Tywin, a brutal and domineering man who wants his children to do exactly as he wants to to further House Lannister on pain of humiliation, having their wife gang raped, disinheritance, etc. Tyrion was forced to. And btw, she was 13, not 12, not that it makes that big of a difference.

I seem to remember Tywin having a plan for Jamie too and I seem to recall Jamie telling his father to F off.

Yes, he did. No, he wasn't.

Also she was 12 as she mentions in that chapter to Tyrion.
