GOODKIND X: Lemmings of Discord

She was aware of the exposed flesh of her bosom rising and falling above the top of her black dress. Gadi had just been staring at her bosom. She wanted Richard to stare at her like that.

Now, the question is, does Nicci have just a relatively normal low-cut dress or if she has bared her boobies and Goodkind didn't yet at that point of his career have the courage to say it outright. I personally think the QotD sounds like Nicci is a total slut in a specially cut slut dress. I think she goes bare-titted at every excuse she can find.

Hmm, yet another woman who thinks the best way to seduce Richard is to have sex with someone else in front of him. You have to wonder about the state of TG's lovelife, don't you? The guy has some serious issues.

Perhaps he is a SWINGER. ;)

Congratulations on the win, MinDonner. Paper makes for great kindling, especially SoT.

I demand that the next QotD be the little scene from Temple of the Winds that I've nicknamed "Kahlan is an unfaithful whore of a wife." It's the scene where she and Richard bring Drefan to his new quarters at the palace...

Who are you to make demands, n00b? :P

You'll have to be more specific about which scene you mean. If it's not the one where Kahlan thinks she's doing it with Drefan but it turns out to be Richard, and it's not the scene at the end of the book where Kahlan begs Drefan to screw her (both of which scenes have been done), then I'm not sure which one you're talking about. When Richard and Drefan first meet, Kahlan makes some small mental note about the resemblance between Richard and Drefan, but no more really than saying Drefan is good looking. No lurid descriptions of Kahlan lusting for him.

I think you'll have to wait for a while for your request, the Moose is on a well-deserved vacation. :D

Vacation doesn't start for another month.

Taking requests for QotD, please be specific.

Ok MM, how about another example of Tairy's feeble knowledge of warfare and combat?

I'm hoping that the last one was just a freak accident and that he's actually capable of describning a good battle scene. :fence:

A battle scene I can provide. A good battle scene? Not likely. Let me see what I can dig up.

How about the toad-licking hullicination scene? That could be interesting given TG's stance on drug use. I can't remember which book that was in though. It was something to do with the Mud People so it could be Stone of Tears or Soul of the Fire. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Finding a good battle scene is no fun. I think the blunt mountain/these men were bigger then him fight scene we saw awhile ago was the worst so far. Is there one that's worse then that?

Is there one that's worse then that?

and if there is - could we survive reading it?

think of the children... and MM...

The toad-licking is definitely in Stone of Tears, but I don't remember it being that interesting (other than the fact that neither R nor K realised that it was a hallucinogen)... how about the scene where Richard meets Gratch for the first time?

Okeedokee, it’s time for the Terry Goodkind Quote of the Day. Just trying to find a quote for today has given me a bit of a headache, so I’ll try to keep this one quick (unlikely).

Richard paused. His head came up. Nadine was behind him. He had the oddest sensation.

The hair on the back of his neck stiffened.

Richard heard the air whine as he spun.

The world slowed. Sound dragged. He floated as he moved. The air felt as thick as mud. Everyone seemed a statue in his vision.

Time was his.

His arm stretched out as he drifted ahead. He commanded the thickness of the air. In the eerie silence, he could hear the feathers singing. He could hear the hiss of blade.

Time was his.

Nadine’s startled blink took forever.

He closed his fist.

With a slam of sound, the world crashed back with a wild rush.

In his fist, Richard held a bolt from a crossbow.

The blade wasn’t three inches from Nadine’s wide eyes.

A fraction of a second more and it would have killed her. That fraction of a second had been an hour to him.

“Richard,†Nadine panted, “how did you catch that arrow? I hope you can understand that it gives me the creeps. Not that I’m complaining,†she was quick to add.

Drefan was there, his jaw hanging open. “How did you do that?†He whispered.

“I’m a wizard, remember?†Richard said as he turned, looking in the direction from which the arrow had come. He thought he saw movement.

Kahlan clutched a trembling Nadine. “Are you all right?â€

Nadine nodded and let out a belated, frightened cry as Kahlan pulled her to her in a reassuring embrace.

Richard’s eyes locked on a movement as his fist snapped the arrow in half. He took off, running. Berdine raced after him.

Richard turned as he ran. “Find some soldiers! I want this whole area closed off! I want him caught!â€

Berdine cut down a street, going after soldiers. Richard ran like the wind on a storm. Rage inundated him. Someone had tried to kill Nadine.

In that instant, Nadine wasn’t a woman sent by Shota to marry him, a woman who was causing him trouble; in that instant, she was simply an old friend from home. The full fury of the magic took him. […]

Richard vaulted the low board fence where he had seen the movement. In mid-leap, he drew his sword. The air rang with the unique sound of steel. <Not the unique sound of children’s laughter? Oh well, lets skip forward a bit. Snip.>

Two hours after they had returned to the palace, and Richard had sent them all to bed, Kahlan thought she saw something move in her room.

The lamp on the far wall was turned down low. The clouds his the moon, so there was no light coming in the glassed doors to the balcony. The thick carpets silenced the sound of footsteps, if there were any. the weak flame from the lamp was all that betrayed the shape she thought she saw. <blah blah>

Kahlan didn’t move a muscle as she saw the knife glint in the dim lamplight. She held her breath.

A powerful arm stabbed hatefully into her bed. The arm rose and fell, stabbing in quick succession.

With a finger, Richard pushed on the balcony door. It swung open on silent hinges. Berdine glided across the room the instant Richard gave her a hand signal. When she was in place, he tapped the glass once. Berdine turned up the wick on the lamp.

Tristan Bashkar <ambassador of Jara, a pain in Richards ass and a big fan of the whores, like Kahlan.> straightened beside Kahlan’s bed, knife in hand, panting with the effort of what he had just been doing.

“Toss down the knife, ambassador,†Richard said in a quiet tone.

Tristan spun the knife in his fingers, seizing the blade in preparation to throw it.

Berdine’s Agiel to the back of his neck dropped him instantly. She pressed the Agiel down on his shoulder to support herself as she bent and picked up the knife. Tristan howled in pain.

Berdine straightened, coming up with three knives.

“you were right, Richard,†<Of course he’s right.> Drefan said from behind.

“I can’t believe it,†Nadine said as she stepped up into the lamplight. <Why is she there? Who knows?>

“Believe it,†General Kerson said as he, too, came in from the balcony. “I’d say Tristan Bashkar has nullified his immunity as a diplomat.â€

Richard put two fingers between his lips and whistled. Raina charged through the door ahead of a large contingent of D’Haran soldiers bristling steel. Two of them lit more lamps.

Richard hooked his thumbs behind his belt as he stood beside Kahlan, a towering black form defined with gold trim on his tunic and silver ornaments, buckles, and wristbands, watching the soldiers haul Tristan to his feet.

“You were right, Richard,†she said. “He attacked Nadine to draw the guard off me. It was me he was after all along.â€

<snip>

General Kerson inspected the prisoner to assure himself that Berdine had found all his weapons. When he was satisfied, he turned to Richard.

“What would you like done, Lord Rahl?â€

“Behead him.â€

Kahlan turned in shock. “Richard, you can’t do that.â€

“You saw him. He thought he was killing you.â€

“But he didn’t. He only stabbed my empty bed. The spirits mark a difference between intent and deed.â€

“He tried to kill Nadine, too.â€

“I did no such thing!†Tristan shouted. “That wasn’t me – I haven’t even left the palace tonight!â€

Richard turned a cold glare on Tristan. “You have white hairs on your knees. White goat hairs. You knelt behind that fence while you aimed the crossbow, and got the goat hairs on you.â€

Kahlan glanced down, and saw that Richard was right.

“You’re crazy! I never did!â€

“Richard,†Kahlan said, “he didn’t kill Nadine, either. He may have tried, but he didn’t. You can’t execute him for intent.â€

Richard closed his fist around the amulet at his chest, the amulet representing the dance with death. No mercy.

The general’s eyes left Kahlan and returned to Richard. “Lord Rahl?â€

“Richard,†Kahlan insisted, “you can’t.â€

Richard glared at Tristan. “He killed those women. He sliced them up with his fancy knife. You liked to cut people, don’t you, Tristan?†<Did I mention that some hookers had been murdered lately? Next QotD perhaps.>

“What are you talking about? I never killed anyone – except in war!â€

“No,†Richard said, “and you didn’t try to kill Kahlan, and you didn’t try to kill Nadine, and there aren’t white goat hairs on your pants.â€

<Yadda yadda, Tristan gives his lame excuses. It was all necessary for the greater good, blah blah, he’s been dealing with the Imperial Order.>

Richard looked back at the general. “Get some officers together to take command of the Jarian forces and capital. Have them take Tristan’s head to the royal family and tell them that he was executed for attempting to kill the mother Confessor.

“The officers are to offer Jara surrender to D’Hara under the peaceful terms already offered. It’s a month, there and back. The king himself is to return with the surrender documents. I expect him, and the D’Haran guard sent to accompany him, back here within one month from tomorrow.

“Tell the king that if they don’t surrender, and our men don’t return safely, I will personally ride into Sandilar at the head of an army and I will behead every member of the royal family. We will then conquer Jara and occupy the capital. The occupation will not be friendly.†<Peaceful terms indeed.>

Terry Goodkind, Temple of the Winds

Damn, that wasn’t quick at all. Curse Terry Goodkind (BBNC)!!!!!

...I don't really need to comment on that, do I? Richard knows all about that.

QOTD

Ooooh, he's seen the Matrix!

A fraction of a second more and it would have killed her. That fraction of a second had been an hour to him.

“I’m a wizard, remember?†Richard said as he turned, looking in the direction from which the arrow had come. He thought he saw movement.

um, why the talking? if you'd just had a crossbow bolt loosed at your face, don't you think that you'd be LOOKING FOR THE GIT THAT JUST TRIED TO KILL YOU, rather than worshiping Richard?????

Rage inundated him.

Err????

Richard hooked his thumbs behind his belt as he stood beside Kahlan, a towering black form defined with gold trim on his tunic and silver ornaments, buckles, and wristbands, watching the soldiers haul Tristan to his feet.

Who is the towering black form, Richard or Kahlan?

and what's with the "outfit" sounds like some 80's Metalhead's wardrobe.

Kahlan turned in shock. “Richard, you can’t do that.â€

“You saw him. He thought he was killing you.â€

“But he didn’t. He only stabbed my empty bed. The spirits mark a difference between intent and deed.â€

but... I thought that to an Objectionist the intention was all that mattered.... he tried to kill Richard's Harem which makes him EVIL - and thus he must be tortured to death over a period of months...

He's good at diplomacy.

“Richard,†Nadine panted, “how did you catch that arrow? I hope you can understand that it gives me the creeps. Not that I’m complaining,†she was quick to add.

So someone shoots an arrow at you, and your first question is how it was stopped? No thankyou, no finding the person who shot it?

Ooooh, he's seen the Matrix!

Yeah? Well, maybe I've just seen to much bad porn, then, because I'm visualizing Richard forcing Time on it's knees and making it his Bitch. YMMV.

Richard heard the air whine as he spun.

I suppose air is a peace protester then, whatwith all that whining. Richard ought to make Air his second Bitch, right beside Time.

Oh god, the Nicci shagging another guy scene! One of the many that made me go WTF? whilst reading FotF. And it isn't better in Dutch either.

By the by, does anyone have the link of that wonderful article where some people completely owned all of Terry's arguements that he doesn't write fantasy? It was linked in one of the earlier Goodkind threads, but I don't know which one!
