LACon Convention Reports

Recommended Posts

My favorite con moment happened at the open party Saturday night.

I had door duty for the party, and my husband was sitting to my right, helping out. I happened to be talking to someone on my left, when a few women came to the door.

"Is that your girlfriend?" asked one of the women.

"No..." began mr. mouse.

Whereupon said hussy kissed him, long and hard, full on the mouth.

"....she's my wife," he finished.

She ran. Into the party, and not away.

Personally, I welcome our new Devil Bunny overlord.

What's the betting that this changes to The World of George R.R. Martin's Ice and Fire? ;)

George is adamant that that won't be the case. ;) Neither that nor, even worse, 'The World of George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire'. Heh.

Oh, yeah, Linda and I are now safely ensconced in the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Thanks, Mya and Dub, for the ride.

We will probably finally get our pictures from the con up tomorrow, and will be expanding our reports as best we can.

We were short a piece and Zollo was impressed into service after much protest. ;) Mosty he helped wheel Stego/Doran around. ;)

Oh, the convention newsletter completely appeared to lack the kind of in-depth party reviewing that Flick provided so ably last year at Interaction. However, the illustrious, Hugo-award winner Cheryl Morgan -- who did a very nice job explaining some of the ins and outs of the results to Linda and I on Saturday evening -- does state that, "George Martin’s fans run great parties and have the best wine at the convention." Yeah!

I hope people will pardon me for being so... mundane, but I notice that the first Jon chapter on the ADwD forum hasn't been updated. Does that mean that there were no changes between it and the reading GRRM did?

Apparently there was some heckling of Words are Wind, who heckled right back. I missed it but others can inform.

I can add to this as I was the intended victim of the heckler. I dressed in my best Highgarden court dress for our party and of course walking aroung the streets of LA at 2 am dressed in mediveal garb opens oneself up to a bit of heckling. So the wankers were yelling really stupid shit "you got magicians in there" Can you do magic?" stupid fuckheads.

I did the thing I usually do and ignored the asswipes. Rhea (sp?) who is the absolute coolest person ever (love you babe  ) shouts back "You got shit up your ass? Did it take all day to think that up?" and then various other swears and taunts were exchanged whith Rhea being the clear victor. Good times.

I'll do a detailed report when I finish commenting and reading what others have to say, and maybe wake up a little bit more. I didn't get home until 2 am from my flight and my little one "found me" a little after 6.

Ran,

You're in Vegas? Man, I just left there. I picked up my friend who was staying there while I was at the con.

Krafus,

Looking over the previous summaries, I don't think there were many if any changes. I'll post the "summarized summary" I have tomorrow sometime, hopefully.

I mocked Dirjj mercilessly on Saturday night, and told him I'd mock him here, too.

Dirjj signs his screen name (on the BwB standard) like a ten-year-old girl, with little bubbles over his "i"s and "j"s. In fact, those bubbles even kind of look like little hearts. :P

I for one would really like to thank everyone who volunteered so much time and effort. I know Aegon Blutarsky really poured his heart and soul into making things happen - the decorations were largely he and his wife's doing, and I think it kicked what are always excellent parties right up into the epic level. And you know epic is a word that has to be approved by the Supreme Metal Council to use - and in this case, they approve!

As always, Caress of Cersei was amazing - I am insufficiently eloquent to adequately sing her praises. The party wouldn't have been the raging success it was and has been without her.

Mr. and Mrs. X mixed up some spectacular drinks- the one they blasted me with might as well have been called a "Naval Tradition" because it had rum, sodomy, AND the lash, right in my cup! And Bronn Stone and his lady provided a really, truly superb wine bar. The finest wineries of the Arbor would be proud to have him represent them - and as someone who appreciates a good cup, sampling his wears was dangerous - everything was so good I wanted to try it twice! I recognize what a labor and expense it must have been, and hope everyone expressed their gratitude. My bottle of Arbor Gold has pride of place on the rack.. I'm torn... I want to keep it, but I want to drink it!

But I am left with one mystery by our Scottish Brothers. What IS the difference between English and gay? (It's weird, I didn't know Scots spoke French, but apparently they do. I couldn't make a word out of what they were saying...but no matter how many times I said, "En anglais, s'il vous plais, je n'parl pas francais!" they kept on with the Froggish. Weird.)

Lastly, I would just like to remind everyone... everything really is better with bacon. Now let's have your cock out, Pod.

The raffle was completed and people were checking some of their tickets. I know Aoife won the GoT 1st edition; I don't know much beyond that. I expect people will get their emails about who got what in a couple days.
