So BBC America started showing Series 1 couple weeks ago.

I'm sooooooo irritated I didn't get on this bandwagon for years ago.

I've been watching Sherlock for a few years now. It's one of my top 3 current shows, despite its short seasons. But yeah, it's an awesome show :D

I'm on record as saying I enjoy the CBS Elementary. I was glad to see that the shows really are night and day. Makes it easier to enjoy both.

I can very much see why Sherlock is so highly regarded though.

Brilliant show in every way.

I hate that it's only 3 episodes a season, though. Makes it a bit better that they are 1h30 long, but still i wish it had 10 episodes of 1 hour each instead.

I've re-watched the series a couple times, and it's still great. Which is rare for a "cop" show.

I don't get a cop show vibe off of this at all...

Criminals, a detective, they try and solve the case and catch the bad guy in each episode. To me that's a "cop show".

Anyways, i didn't mean it in a bad way, i'm just saying usually a show where it's a criminal and there's twists and turns, there's no re-watch value to it, to me anyways. But this show is so good, that even knowing who did the crimes and all that, i still love re-watching it.

I think it's a good show, but not as good as some of you make it out to be. Cumberbatch portrayal is brilliant and some episodes are pretty good but I think Freeman's Watson is both bland and uninteresting which drags the show down a bit.

Hmm.

I can see why you would think that of Freeman's Watson, although he works absolutely outstandingly as a foil for Sherlock. There's only two situations that come to mind where his character has much depth to it other than that

The first season, he deals with PTSD. That's mostly just initial characterisation though. And then throughout the second and third seasons they investigate his position in the subject of romance. Granted, not in any real detail.

On the other hand, I've occasionally thought that Sherlock is played too similarly to both House and Sheldon Cooper. Of course, neither of them precede actual Sherlock Holmes, but it is interesting to note . I think the one thing that partly negates that is the intensity with which he does things, as opposed to House and Sheldon who are both usually relaxed and methodical about their work.

I don't understand it either. Watson is a well written character, sure he's no Sherlock but he's extremely fascinating in his own right.

Also, Freeman's portrayal of him is refreshing.

Was hoping to hear about season 4 going into this thread :bang:

Season 3 was weak, but holy shit that 3rd episode.

Season 3 had some great moments, like Sherlock's best man speech, and Sherlock and Mycroft at their parents house, but it was probably my least favorite of the 3.

A Scandal in Belgravia is still my favorite. Irene Adler ♡.

That one is my favorite episode, as well :)

Although HLV is a close second.

Yeah, I agree. By far the best episode and I like Sherlock very much.

Yeah, 3 was pretty weak. The fact that I don't really recall what exactly lead to your holy shit exclamation is telling in that regard. Martin Freeman's wife didn't really mesh well with the type of story that Sherlock is imo.
