Robb Stark's Folly

It seems like you're just searching for any excuse to blame Catelyn for Robb's decision. First, she may not have even known about Ned's order, and I doubt it would have swayed Robb. Second, whatever strategies Ned had in AGOT were irrelevant at that point - the game had changed. Robb already knew Theon was his father's hostage and chose to release him anyway. The bad results are all on him, not the person who warned him what could happen! :bang:

Catelyn did not doom Robb. Releasing Jaime was a boneheaded move on her part, but didn't affect the outcome of the war very much. Robb brought his doom on himself, largely by not listening to his mother

do you believe Tywin arranges the RW if Robb still held Jamie hostage? Id have to think Twyin would not risk losing his first son and heir (even though Jamie was KG Twyin was determined to get him out of it) bc surely once Robb dies the blackfish beheads Jamie back at RR

Unfortunately Robb was both his Father's and Mother's child and the mix of expressed characteristics ended up in an ethos of bad decisions. He attempted to make practical decisions driven by both honor and strategy but fell prey to his own passions and naivety most of the time. He was always painted into a corner by the conflict of those traits. In his defense he was plagued by bad council which he needed as a young and inexperienced lord. He never looked toward the end game.

That was a good idea, Roose had to lead alonside with Robb Stark, because he is one of the high lords, you can't put your high lord in second command and then giving the command to a lesser lordling. That would be an insult.

Robb take the useful and trusted high lords with himself, and let Roose to lead the bait army, whatvever the conclusion would be, he would only lead a bait and foot army.

My thing is Robb should have kept Roose close. Surely Eddard taught both Jon and Robb about the highlords and who to trust. He could have easily gave the command to Galbbert or Tallhart.

yes, it is wierd i think theon or jon say that eddard never trusted roose so why did rob

Robb was inexperience and became very over confident after the whispering woods. How on earth he let Theon go to Pyke forgetting what kind of people the iron born are. Most of the northern lords are not well verse with political intrigue except for Roose who is calculating and ambitious. By letting Roose have apart of the army gave him options, thus Lannister and Tyrell alliance which gave him an opportunity to negotiate with Tywin without any of the northern lords knowing.

I think Balon was going to attack the North with or without Theon being returned

Theon attacking Winterfell did change things. The "deaths" of Bran and Rickon caused both Cat and Robb to do really foolish things. Like freeing Jaime and marrying Jeyne.

Robs ultimate folly was his Ego... As soon as Ned went to Kings Landing and Robb became the Lord of Winterfell his ego started getting the better of him... At first he took Cats council and the council of his fathers men but then the incident with the assassin and Bran happened forcing Cat to leave Winterfell leaving the command on Robb...

Cat goes off on her own stupid quest taking Tyrion hostage and all the crap that follows with her sister and so on.. In this time the Northern Lords are all giving their loyalties to Robb and on the path of war after Neds death and no matter what Robb says the men agree... His ego builds and builds and builds all the time ignoring council from those who he originally listened to including Cat. He makes and breaks an oath of betrothal to a Frey woman causing a huge sense of betrayal the the Freys and in the end Roose Bolton (whose wife is Frey) is the one to exact revenge

So as i see it if Robb wasn't such an arrogant child things would possibly have ended differently

Well Cat could have stayed in WF actually and let Cassel communicate with Ned in KL. Cat has ruling skills, but she's like the boss who complains he/she has too much work, but never trusts you to do the job that's already supposed to be yours anyhow. Before you get a chance to finish it, he/she will take it out of your hands and does it for you. Sam thing with Tyrion. Ned's given her orders. But Tyrion shows up and she must do it herself alone.
