So won another $45 at holdem. Playing 2/5 no limit with a min. $200 buy in. Was up $260 at three hours in but got brought down when someone slow played AA at the same time I was slow playing KK. After that $215 loss I decided to leave while i was still a little ahead. Now only -$40 for the year. Just one more good day and I'm in the positives.

Had quite the night tonight. Took a couple of other tough beats, and happened to come in second on a set over set over set flop - I knew the guy who over raised my shove had bottom set but the preflop raiser, who led out the flop also came in, and happened to have KK instead of AA or AK.

That was just your standard issue cooler though, however unlikely. The highlight of the night was flopping a nine high nut straight, getting it all in three ways on the flop, and losing to 22. (The other guy had A9.) Brilliant.

10 days later and the bruise has finally gone away enough for me to talk about it. Played Hold'em for 4 hours straight and was doing one helluva job. Sat down with $100 and was up to $375. Then, as happens all too often, I made the one stupid decision that cost me it all. I was dealt A8 and the board came 4-8-9, with no raises pre-flop and 5 people in the hand. I was last to act and made a $10 bet after everyone checked, just to see how everyone stood. I got one caller. The turn was another 8 and the guy bet $45. I raised it up to an even $100. He had me overed and pushed all in. Then this is where I got stupid. I thought "Shit, this guy has a full house", but instead of folding and accepting the loss I asked the guy, "Do you have pocket 4s or 9s?". Of course, he ignored me. Sadly, even with the very strong suspicion the other guy had a full house I was not a good enough player to fold my trip 8s with an Ace kicker. I called in the vain hope he had turned trips as well, but had a weaker kicker. Yep, pocket 9s. Could've been worse I guess.

2016: -$100.

I play hold em tournament's 2 to 3 times a month, $30 or $50 buy ins depending on the night. I prefer it to cash tables. Here in Michigan we still have charity poker rooms so you don't have to go to a casino, tons of those here also.

For 2015 I was probably down $100 - $200, which to me is a win since I play mostly to relax and have fun, not just for the money, which is why I avoid the cash table.

For 2016 and late 2015 I am on a big fat losing streak! Most of it is self inflicted, playing when I am tired. When I play tired I take more risks than I would normally since I would rather get knocked out of the tourney after 2 hours, than play 4 hours and still not make the prize pool!

Did go to Vegas with wife, daughter(21st birthday) a nephew and another couple for a week. Played roulette a lot, which I had never played before. Came home down about $600 after a week of playing, eating and drinking. Again, to me that was great since I planned to lose/spend a thousand or so just gambling.

Also, worst experience recently was kind of shady. Had a little above average stack of chips. Got pocket kings, I raised about 8x the big blind, someone else doubled my bet. I shoved all in, it gets back to the other raiser(who BTW is a friend) she hesitates, the dealer asks if she wants a count, she says yes and gets it, and then calls. I turned over my kings and she turns over her Aces.

To me, her asking for a count and hesitating was pretty rude. There were still three full tables of players and no way she wasn't calling one player heads up pre-flop with pocket aces.

Am I wrong or does that seem rude? Especially since we are friends.

Glad to hear that, I was damn sure it was but you never know. She has a history of being a poor sport and terrible loser. I didn't call her out for it and won't unless she brings it up sometime. Just irked me, almost like being really really slow rolled.

I would have done the same as you. Kept my peace but been really annoyed inside. She was never not calling, no matter how much was in the middle.

Yeah, that was pretty rude.

But I'm curious, were you two the only people in the hand when this was going on? When me and my friends play in tournaments together we usually just check it down when no one else is in the hand. Or we have the person with the lesser amount of chips raise so the other person can fold. Why were you two raising against each other? If there were other people in the hand I get it.

A third person folded after she raised back to me. I then went all in and she sloooooooow called me. I never play a friend differently in a tournament. To me that is unethical and cheating the other players. If I can take someone out or protect myself I will. If I play her different and she takes out other players it's not fair to them, collusion and all. Where I play if you do that they will give a warning and then potentially kick you out. Plus she loves to let you know she beats you so I hate when she does!

Hell yeah! After a 2 month hiatus of not playing cards my housemate and I finally made the 2 hour drive to the nearest casino. 2 hours later we are leaving the casino and I'm $750 up. It was a good day.

Edit: Screw value meal. We had steak tonight.

I've been on a ugly downswing which is exasperated by playing sparingly due to time. Mostly PLO which is high variance as it is but I've run into some really poor spots in holdem where the percentages just didn't line up with the result. I'm more process oriented so I'm not as worried but it's a bit frustrating to not play enough hands to get myself out of the downswing and mitigate it with volume.

Sadly, I did not get the reference. I haven't seen that movie in like 15 years. However, I will take this opportunity to reeducate myself.

On a gambling related note, I leave tomorrow on a weekend trip to Las Vegas. May the poker gods be with me.
