I was reading ADwD recently and I didn't understand this part from The Prince of Winterfell chapter.
.
"By that time, the rest of Bolton's army had arrived. They raised King Tommen's stag and lion above the walls of Winterfell as the wind came howling from the north, and below it the flayed man of the Dreadfort.

Why were the Boltons putting the king's banner on the walls of Winterfell. It's lawfully their castle now so why? As a final insult to the Starks?

You raise your overlords banner as a sign of loyalty.. and in this case, most likely also to remind every lord in the north who might have entertained thoughts about rebelling, that the Boltons have powerful friends in the Lannisters and the IT.

This ↑ :) They wanted to show all northern lords that they have powerful ( not so much as they think) allies - Lannisters and the Crown.
