I don't think this was aimed so heavily at the teenage boy as you're suggesting. I'm not a teenage boy, I went and saw the film with 5 other people who are not teenage boys, and I actually saw mostly adults and the occasional bad parent with their small child. In fact, the demographic breakdown I saw of this film was primarily 20+ 55% male and 45% female.

Exactly. Deadpool turned out to be one of those smart movies that use your expectations against you and to it's advantage. The marketing to was carefully devised to generate maximum curiosity in all viewers. There's something great for everybody there.

And what are the odds those would also turn out to be your top 2 ?

Vast probably ;) I mean, those are two great films, which transcend the rather limited range of their genre. Or at least that's what I think :) I bet you and I aren't the only one in here with those films in their top three.

The Dark Knight ? Definitely. A lot of people are sadly ignorant about Unbreakable.

Personally, I would need to see Deadpool again, but it might even sneak into my top three of superhero films. I feel like The Dark Knight and Unbreakable are almost impossible to oust from their positions, but Avengers and Cap 2 are certainly beatable for that third spot.

I'll give you The Dark Night, but Unbreakable? First off, it is most certainly not a comic book movie.Secondly, it was a good movie the first time through. watchable the second time with the understanding of the twist, and then a total snoozefest any other viewing. This is not unlike many early M Night films. (I smell dead people.)

To me, the best superhero movie ever made starred Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, and Margot Kidder, but I will freely admit it is for nostalgia reason. The first Richard Donner Superman movie was released when I was a kid, and I have never again captured that kind of magic in a movie theatre during a superhero movie. Objectively, I'm not sure it is top ten, but it most certainly is my number one.

Deadpool Doesn't break the top 5 on my list, but it most certainly was a fantastic movie, and one that I will be seeing multiple times.

post script...

I hope no one takes offence to me bickering with Veltigar in this Entertainment subforum, I seem to be the Joe Bob Briggs to his Roger Ebert sometimes. As a personal note, I would like it to be known that I have a lot of respect for how he writes about and communicates his obvious love for cinema. I keep that respect, even when my mouth is agape because of how polar opposite our opinions are quite frequently.

I love Unbreakable.

Anyways, whenever you two go at it I see every post (from both of you) like this:

While you do have a point that some writers take the cheap and easy way out in R rated comedies, and Deadpool certainly didn't do this for the majority of its gags, you once again lose me when you talk about GoTG being "bad". The end of that movie featured one of the most hilarious sequences ever to be put in a comic book movie.

How dare you talk bad about the lead singer of Mouse Rat !!!!

Are you talking about the dance off thing? Because that was wretched.

The best exchange in this movie was-

Colossus (dragging Deadpool across the ground): Let's go talk to The Professor.

Deadpool: McAvoy or Stewart? This timeline is so confusing.

Damn, I missed that, I was still laughing from what just happened. I also like the joke about there being only 2 X-Men at the house.

Opening with the Juice Newton song. Credits are praised but the opening song set the mood.

Colossus looks to fit right with Deadpool movie world.

Deadpool- Ripley, Alien 3

Negasonic: You're Old.

The baby hand was great way to show that major injuries took real time to heal.

Happy International Women's Day.

Didn't feel the love. Felt like a teenage boy softcore porn, down to the hot ex prostitute and stripper deciding that ass face was totally fine to get with despite making her think he was dead for two years and having a face like an asshole. And not a porn asshole, one of those ones you hear about from your nurse friends that work in the ER.

It was fine and funny but I feel fairly bad for enjoying it.

Is it because it's Lent season?:P

Possibly.

I didn't hate it or anything. Just thought there really wasn't much there and what there was pretty much had been covered by Matthew Vaughn and Frank Miller and mark Millar having ass babies.

Can we talk about how cool it was that they were fighting on a SHIELD helicarrier at the end of the movie?

I would have loved a joke about "let's all meet at the carrier that crash landed from another universe" but apparently Marvel told FOX that they couldn't even refer to it as a helicarrier.

I loved that film. Possibly the best film I've seen in a long time. Sick, disturbing and so much fun.

I love all of the bits where Deadpool would randomly just break the 4th wall and talk to the audience. lol
