Gays?

Recommended Posts

First of all, if seeing "gays" freaks you out you probably need to grow up a bit.

Second, I think you need to do a re-read. It's insinuated that Renly is gay in pretty much every book, and there are multiple hints to him and Loras having a relationship. There are tons of threads on this, plus wiki entries, etc. etc.

I don't think there's any evidence*until the end of AFfC what I've read so far *that indicate that Renly and Loras are gays

Why would the show do this? Just to add some drama and shit? Thoughts?

There were definitely hints:

"When the sun has set, no candle can replace it."

-Loras

I wonder who that's about?

Chill dude, who said I'm freaking out? It's just a question. And would you post some of these hints? It'd be much appreciated.

I certainly enjoyed it better the way GRRM wrote it. It was mysterious and only hinted at, it was much more dramatic to me that way.

I think the show does add a lot of unneccesary softcore porn to spice things up. I don't really like it. But it's not a dealbreaker.

A few quotes I was able to dig up quickly. I know there are more to be found;

In Clash of Kings;
Renly, "...I got Margaery. You’ll be pleased to know she came to me a maid."
Stannis, "In your bed she’s like to die that way."

In Storm of Swords to Loras;
Jaime, “Now sheathe your bloody sword, or I’ll take it from you and shove it up some place even Renly never found.”

In Storm of Swords to Tyrion, while referring to Loras;
Oberyn, “Renly’s little rose? I doubt that.”

Yup. The relationship is simply hinted at and I actually missed it on my first reread, but it becomes clear if you're looking for it and I like how it's not really thrown in your face so much as just suggested.

I guess it was added onto in the show because it's an interesting dynamic but would have been too subtle if they left it the way it was written.

Well since no one is a gays, I have no idea what you are talking about.

Haha took the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't resist clicking on a post simply titled "gays."

Looks like someone really doesn't want anyone catching "the gay," but I'm afraid it's too late. Jon Con already has painted nails. Fa-bulous!

Indeex.

. The boar got Robert and I got Margaery. You'll be pleased to know she came to me a maid."

"In your bed she's like to die that way."

"Loras, stay and help me pray. It's been so long I've quite forgotten how.

I prefer books with more illuminations. Lord Renly owned a few with drawings that would turn a septon blind."

Dudes be gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Statutory rape however, how old was Loras and Renly when they started banging?

"Pray, who did you squire for, ser?" she asked sweetly. "Lord Renly, was it not?"

"I had that honor."

"Yes, I thought as much." Cersei had seen how tight the bonds grew between squires and the knights they served. She did not want Tommen growing close to Loras Tyrell.

Probably not Cerseis worst idea

There are hints everywhere. Those already posted above. The fact that the feast in Bitterbridge, Renly kept looking at his brother-in-law, instead of his pretty bride. Ser Garlan's assessment that Tyrion was a better husband material than Loras (why, what's wrong with your brother?). The Queen of Thorns' remark, that it was already difficult to arrange marriages for younger sons, and doubly so in Loras' case (again, for what possible reason? young, handsome, already a formidable knight, blood as blue as you can get, good manners, not disfigured - what then made Loras particularly unmarriageable?).

Bottom line, yeah they're gay.

Being gay was not something you would admit to openly in those times. From my reading I suspected both Renly and Loras were gay on first reading, but it could not be overtly confirmed because they could never say so in public. Neither of these characters are POV characters so we don't see the 'truth' inside their minds, just other POV's perceptions. Hence the strong hinting rather than confirmation.

Don't forget Brynden Blackfish, he's quite gay as well. It's made clear from his dialogue with Cat around the time of Hoster's death.
