From NBC, The Player looks like it could be fun in a 'Burn Notice' sort of way. The rest don't look worth much attention - Blindspot takes a vaguely promising concept and, even in the trailer, instantly jacks the stakes up to a place too ridiculous for words.

Minority Report sounds like a decent extension of a concept, taking it into logical, potentially interesting directions. Whereas Lucifer just seems like it's going to be a total waste of time.

So they are turning Lucifer into a generic procedural, Castle with the devil?

My literal reaction to this as I was reading the blurb was:

Holy shit, a Lucifer show? And it looks like it's based off the - oh fuck you!

I'll still probably watch it...

The Minority Report trailer doesn't look bad, but fuuuucccckkkkk can't they come up with anything other than cop shows? If they're coming out with this, then why didn't the just keep Almost Human two years ago??

THE ALIENIST

Eight-Part Series

STUDIO: TNT Original Productions/Paramount Television/Anonymous Content

TEAM: Cary Fukunaga (d, ep), Hossein Amini (w, ep), Eric Roth (ep), Steve Golin (ep), Rosalie Swedlin (ep)

LOGLINE: Based on the New York Times bestseller by Caleb Carr, the fast-paced and atmospheric psychological thriller is set in the fascinating and gritty world of Gilded Age New York City. After a series of haunting and gruesome murders, psychiatrist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, newspaper reporter John Moore and police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt come together employing emerging disciplines of psychology and early crime investigation techniques to track down one of New York City’s first serial killers.

CAST: N/A.

The makeover of TNT and TBS is underway. At his first Turner upfront, Kevin Reilly, President of TBS and TNT and Chief Content Officer for Turner Entertainment, unveiled his plans for the two networks as well as several pickups. They include a high-profile event series, The Alienist , from True Detective‘s Cary Fukunaga

The eight-part The Alienist, based on the New York Times bestseller by Caleb Carr, was recently taken out by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content. I hear Reilly, a huge fan of the book, went aggressively after the project from Fukunaga, producer Eric Roth (Forrest Gump) and writer Hossein Amini (The Wings Of The Dove), buying it pre-emptively and beating out digital and premium cable players with a large straight-to-series order and big-budget guarantee.

The Alienist, a beloved book that had been set up at Paramount and subject of numerous unsuccessful attempts for a feature adaptation, is a fast-paced and atmospheric psychological thriller set in the gritty world of Gilded Age New York City. After a series of haunting and gruesome murders, psychiatrist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, newspaper reporter John Moore and police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt work together, employing emerging disciplines of psychology and early crime investigation techniques to track down one of NYC’s first serial killers. TNT Original Productions and Paramount Television produce, with Fukunaga, Roth and Amini executive producing alongside Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Rosalie Swedlin. The project reunites Reilly, who once served as President of Brad Grey Television, and Brad Grey, the current chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures.

A lot of people have pointed out the trailer seems a lot like the Black Widow parody SNL did a few weeks ago, at least the first half of it. io9 lists all the cliches.

I'm good with that. As long as it keeps the light tone and is more like The Flash than Arrow, I'm good.
