Hey everyone! Signed up as soon as I finished AFfC, but was sidetracked by Reddit (are there any Redditors in here?). With all the Saydrah drama, I'm off Reddit for a while. Hello to my co-worker The Wolf Maid, who is in the other room as I type this, and eyelesbarrow, who is getting fatter as I type this.

Welcome Raskolnikov. :)

Have fun!

Hi! *waves* I'm newish, I guess, to the boards in that I made an account here over six months ago, probably around the time I finished reading AFFC, but didn't really start to regularly visit until a week or so ago (and read through entirely too many back-pages of threads in General Chat and Literature and Entertainment. Ah, the joys of having a mundane job that makes such reading sprees possible!). I'm a big fan of the books, though a reread is on the back burner until ADWD is in sight and until some point whereby my hold on the mountain of a prospect that is reading the Wheel of Time is not so tenuous as to be very likely derailed by diving back into the world of Westeros.

Reading more than one book at a time just never ends well for me. I always end up wanting to read one more than the other so the other gets cast aside until the first is done. And then to pick up the second means having to reread a fair bit, which so close to the first reading is merely a painful practice in trying to not skip ahead. Thus, a reread is just not doable until a much later time. Such is the case with Wheel of Time, which got derailed back in 2008 by the Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince series, which was itself derailed partway through by none other than A Song of Ice and Fire (ta da!), which incidentally was not derailed by the barely-a-pit-stop that was the latest Dresden Files book.

That aside, I spend an increasingly respectable amount of time (that is to say LESS time) playing WoW, which is great: more time for other things like reading (the list of To Read NEVER gets shorter >.<) and thinking about stuff and trying to train our standard poodle to attack my boyfriend, just as he tries to train her to attack me. Anyhoo, I suppose this is introduction/rambling enough for now. Cheers!

First post! Hello everyone! Kendall here! I'm a huge fan of the books (as you might guess), so I decided to join!

My quick bio: I live in the States, I'm 23, I'm an actor (working theatre, TV, film) and martial artist (teach and train in many kinds, specializing in bladed weapons and whip).

Aside from my work I love horseback riding, books, board games, some video games, training, staying fit, and long walks on the beach... if the beach weren't over an hour drive away...

HI!

~ Kendall

lol Seriously! I was thinking Loras would be my best bet. But I need to update my action reel (got some Deadliest Warrior coming up, all horse, which would be critical for Loras) and get my acting one together before I submit anything.

Hi. I've been lurking for a long time, drawn in by the literature discussions as much as by ASOIAF. You've introduced me to Bakker, Erikson, Hobb and many more authors I might never have read otherwise, having become somewhat disenchanted by the genre. Much thanks!

Hey everybody, I am still sort of new to these boards. I signed up a long time ago but then locked myself away for writing and revision and only now got back to it. Hoping my own book finds its way into a discussion on here sooner or later, but we'll see.

Anyway, I love ASOIAF, didn't pick them up until they were recommended to me in late 2007/early 2008. Feels like yesterday. Very proud of speculating Jon's parentage on my own, and I'm just about to read through AFFC for the 2nd time.

I live in Denver, and trying to get out more and involve myself in the local SFF community (if I can find it!).

*pokes head out nervously*

Hullo. I'm Nexus, from Norwich, England. I only discovered ASOIAF towards the end of last year, and I'm glad I did. I've read all of the current books and am waiting for the next one eagerly.

My favourite characters are Dany and Tyrion.

Elsewhere, I'm 20, a third year History student at UEA. I tend to follow football, being a Forest fan, and am also an avid gamer, currently in the midst of playing Arkham Asylum and Persona 4. I love rock/metal/emo/punk music, and watching various TV programs, currently Scrubs and Glee.

Other fantasy books which I've enjoyed are the Farseer Trilogy, plus the first book of both liveship and soldier's son, all by Robin Hobb. Also enjoy the Artemis Fowl books.

Er. That's about it. I hope to get involved here.

Greetings to all from Bulgaria! Here is my story for those who are interested:

I don't usually reveal/use my real name in forums (especially foreign ones) but i will say it this once - Rostislav (good luck pronouncing it). Most people (even in person) address me with "s0cKi" which is a very weird nickname I got about 6-7 years ago and I have absolutely no idea what it means (except it has nothing to do with socks!! lol) but I still use it cause it sounds cool, lolz. I'm 20 years old and as I mentioned I live in a small country in Eastern Europe - Bulgaria. I doubt you will be interested in my life, hobbies and stuff like this, so I'll just skip that part and go directly to tbe books, lol.

Obviously, I'm a big fan of the series, but for unknown reasons I registered in this forum just a week ago. I first read the first 3 books in 2003 after they were recommended to me by another fan of fantasy books. I waited and waited for the 4th book and when it didn't come out in the next year I just stopped paying attention to what happened to the series and told myself that I would just wait for all books to come out and read all 6 of them at once... lol, did I have no idea who GRRM was back then. And so 7 years past since then, when at the start of 2010 I finally remembered the great books which ASOIAF were and decided to reread them. I realized that 7 years is indeed a long time because i didn't remember almost anything (well, except a few very notable things, but I won't go into spoilers in this particular thread). Funny thing is that at this time (January) I googled ASOIAF and found the HBO TV series (which at the time were still not greenlit) and went into a frenzy and I was a very happy panda (if they can be happy at all, lol). Anyway.. I reread the first 3 books (buying the 4th one in the process) and then registered here. However, I was smart enough to NOT read any topics cautious of spoilers and started reading the 4th book which I actually finished about an hour ago and here I am posting this ridiculously long introduction post.

I haven't read anything in the forum yet, including the rules, so I apologize if I already broke some of them, lol. Speaking of that.. as you can see, I put an avatar ot Jaime and since I didn't see anyone else having an ASOIAF related avatar.. tell me if it's forbidden and I will change it (although I can't see a reason why it should be).

I think that's all for my introduction.. I haven't read the entire thread but I'm pretty sure i wrote one of the longest introductions so far, because this is just my style of writing.. I don't know when to stop -.-

Anyway, greetings to all again and I hope I'll have a good experience in this forum. ^^

  • 2 weeks later...

You are most wellcome s0cKi,

Your intro was quite cute to my standards.

I know for only one more boarder from Bulgaria (but haven*t read anything from him for anout 4-5 months) so including my self we are at least 3. It sounds like we would have a quorum for voting if need be. :)

And of course - your characher eliminating game is great.

Good Luck.

Hello everyone! I only just found the introduction thread after having been busy reading old posts and trying to see how crazy some of my aSoFaI theories were!

I only read the books in Feb/March! Before that I just assumed GRRM was like all the other fantasy that I'd written off as rubbish or unoriginal, until my other half brought me the aGoT. How wrong I was! I was so wrong that instead of concentrating on my studies (I'm in the final year of my astrophysics degree) I managed to read all the books in about two weeks. Its safe to say I didn't get much work done!

I don't normally post on forums after being entirely too addicted to LotR forum The Barrow Downs whilst studying my A-levels, but I just had to see if my theories were sensible. Seeing as I'm soon to be a graduate and as of yet have no idea what I'm going to be dong afterwards I thought I might indulge myself and stick around. Afterall Staffordshire and Keele uni are VERY dull places to be.
