RedEyedGhost
The psychology of Bunchy in Sunday's episode was great. Terry: "Do you remember those female super hero comics Bunchy used to hide under his mattress as a kid like they were porno mags?" It made so much sense. The entire Mickey and the Armenian mob story is so clichéd. It seems like they didn't know what to do with him and Daryll, so they just pulled that out of the "big old box of ideas." RenlyIsNotRight
I also liked Ray Donovan more as a guilty pleasure than anything else. I had seriously considered dropping the series after Season 2 though - it was just boring. But after hearing some good things about Season 3 I gave it a try and...I gotta say so far I've been pretty impressed. Actually might be the shows best season so far. Still no great, but definitely way better than the steaming piles of shit that were Game of Thrones Season 5 and True Detective Season 2 (the latter not including Colin Farrell of course)
Martini Sigil
This could have been a top tier show... S1 was really good... and when great shows start to get better... this show started to slip... and now its just become one of those shows I watch for "fun"... as opposed to being engaged and really paying attention... I blame Showtime... Homeland parallels
Joe Pesci
I think it is a pretty good show. Much like Banshee, you just have to remember its a TV show so don't hold it to real world standards, and sit back and enjoy.

It doesn't need the writing to be great. Whereas Ray Donovan outside of a couple good performances really suffers due to the bad writing.
Astromech
I could really do without Bridget's storyline. Her arc in season 2 was annoying and her arc this season with her teacher is going that route. At least Conor barely has an arc. Ray's kids remind me too much of Brody's kids in Homeland. Bridget's arcs are approaching Dana-levels of bad. I am happy the series has moved on without Ezra. I couldn't stand him in season 2. Season 3 is so much better for not having that character. Finney is a much more interesting character, although, that may have more to do with Ian McShane's portrayal. Still Mickey Donovan makes this show for me. I am always entertained by his schemes and utter disregard for everyone but himself.

Big names in secondary roles seem to always stay around for a season or so, which is perfect for the show to refresh things. As for Mickey, Voight has knocked it out of the park. I blame Showtime... Homeland parallels I'm not sure I'd say RD was ever close to being top tier. I mean I really enjoyed Season 1 but there were some really fucking stupid moments in it - like James Woods' character suddenly switching sides because they pull the whole Coleen thing out of their ass last minute? Come on. I actually think this season has been by far the best in terms of writing. Like this is what the show has always had the potential to be but never quite hit before. Granted its still not perfect, but I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot more than other shows that I was significantly more excited for.
RenlyIsNotRight
Anyone watch the newest episode? "I'M NOT FUCKING GAY!" Bridgets storyline is getting really fucking stupid though. Not that it was ever really good but this hot for teacher shit is like a new level of absurd. Really liked everything else though.
Ser Rutherford the Brave
Gotta say that last night's episode of Donovan was the first one in three seasons that I would label 'boring'. Overall, this third season is proving to be shockingly disappointing compared to the first two, imo.
Martini Sigil
I am still holding out hope for this exchange between Ian McShane & Paula Malcomson.... it would save the seasonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2naRZB39dwA
Lord Syv Aldlark
I like the more centralized plot of this season... It's nice that they can tell a story without it being Ray go here, go there, go there, go back, go here.. all in thirty minutes

But to each their own I guess.
Ser Rutherford the Brave
Really because I thought most of Season 2 was boring, and I'm really liking this season. But to each their own I guess. To each his (or her) own indeed. I guess if I was to try to pin down just why I'm so underwhelmed by this season (so far), it's that I thought the first two seasons unspooled in a much more consistently organic manner whereas, to the contrary, too much of what's going on (so far) this season seems to be the uninspired storyline inventions of a desperate spitballing writers' session being force-fed to the cast of characters 'foie gras' style. Ser Rutherford the Brave
Wow. Last night's episode really s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d the limits of just how far the audience is expected to willingly suspend its disbelief to w-a-y past the breaking point, imo. Especially the aplomb with which Azaria's character - yeah, granted he's former FBI brass, but still, c'mon... - gets to the bottom of things [NOTE: I'm staying vague to avoid spoilers.] I've got to say that this season - for me, anyway - Ray Donovan has downshifted from pleasure to guilty pleasure. Astromech
Ray Donovan has always stretched the limits of suspension of disbelief. Disbelief has been canceled long ago for me. However, I was shaking my head when
Cochran broke into Avi's storage and found the murder weapon. Holy fuck, that defied all logic. I never thought Avi was dumb before. The dick pic was pretty damn hilarious though.
I regurgitate the same complaint every week, but Bridget's storyline really needs to stop. It's nauseating. And welcome to guilty pleasure viewership :)
Zorral
Life is too short to keep watching something one doesn't really like. But different people get jollies in different ways! :dunno: :)
