Yeah, it's hard to believe much about the child flashbacks will matter, storywise.  And those ages can't equal the ToJ, soooooooo that's got to be something else.  As far as Sean Bean, we have to keep his age in mind as well.  We could have him confessing secrets, as Sean Bean, to the heart tree, but he's not exactly a spring chicken, so I can't see putting Sean in The Way Back Machine.

Oh, I used the word 'chicken,' that reminds me, haven't there been a lot of Rory sightings and Hound Rumors?

As far as Blood Raven, what they need to recast..........is that damn nest they had him sitting in.    :P

Worst ever.  They would have done better to have him sitting in a real tree, than whatever that CGI mess was.  We can presumably look forward to more COTF fire grenades.  And maybe the skeletons from Jason and the Argonauts will return also.  That scene may have had the worst effects combo of anything of all the seasons.

Well, as much as I love Sean Bean. How the hell is he supposed to play a 20 yr younger Ned? He can't look exactly the same when Jon was born as he did s1.

And I wouldn't be too quick to say 'they're doing THE ToJ'. They're going to do A ToJ, big difference.

The Jeyne frostbite thing didn't bother me, that's sort of realistic.  I was greatly annoyed by Brienne being further disfigured.

I wonder if they will do that hellish scene with Euron holding the family hostage and then raping the daughter...they've already taken so much heat on violence against women...but they could blame George since that one is in the book.

Realistic but why her, why after all that. It's misery porn. I don't think they care about the heat, that didn't stop them before.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the later books, he goes overboard at times, and this is one of them. It all gets to be rather oppressive, and isn't realism at all, unless he's telling the story of life in hell.

I almost stopped reading when he had Biter bite Brienne's cheek. Then Jeyne got frostbite on her nose. Not to mention all the other endless horrors. Why. Just why. He overdoes it.

The show really can't blame the books, though. They have shown they aren't shy about changes. Euron? There's no way they could resist. And of course, we must know his victims to care, so...

GRRM does go over board on both the OG ugly on too many characters as well as............the extra maiming, IMO.  Most people are not either extraordinarily beautiful or hideous, most people are somewhere in between with something attractive about them.  I get it's part of the fantasy thing, but.......for all the realism that is claimed, I wish we'd get some realism on this subject matter.  This is one of my nitpicks on the books, as well as.........NOT.........ONE.......SINGLE  PERSON CAN EAT.........FOOD.......WITHOUT...........FUCKING.........WEARING IT!!!!!!!!!  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.  Yeah, that bugs me.   :lmao:

ETA:  Yeah, some book purist I am, huh?  LOL

Yes, he is back, I am half happy, half dreading what they will do to him. But I am seeing this as pictures to go with the book story, like AngryGoTFan said, the show is uncanon.

Oh right.  Another recasting.  We must have hit a dozen by now.  Yeah, I know, Bloodraven was a stand/in extra/placeholder for budget reasons, and why bother casting the real guy when they're taking a year off anyway, or whatever the other rationalizations are for it. LOL.

I can't see why we would need a scene with Ned and Lyanna as young children, I predict we will need that scene as much we needed the Cersei flashback: not a bit.

Sean Bean would supposedly be almost 20 years younger, so I doubt it.

Struan Rodger (BR s 4) is great, I was sad to see how underused he was and what a load of shite the whole BR, CotF, Jojen etc was. :/

Browsing YouTube and Sesame Street delivered me this parody. https://m.youtube.com/watch?list=PL8TioFHubWFtTdaXU1amIZpOG5Ys9-w5O&v=dhWUFXvaZjo"I could not think of a worse ending than this."

I see Bloodraven is the topic of discussion. If you need me I will be in the corner, trying to forget all about it

Sean Bean has to look like in did in LOTR. With make up, they could pull it. The TOJ happened 17 years before the 1st season. And Ned was in his middle 40s in that.

And I cannot really complain about the recasting of Bloodraven when the new actor chosen is a legend.

I know, we could dish on the books, too. I have always seen the show as the show, I just wanted the essential book story told in a wonderful way, well, that never happened.

What I do with some of it is take it as unreliable narrator accounts of things that aren't so bad. When the heightened emotion of the moment fades, with Brienne it will be just an ordinary scar in a field of freckles. Like Sansa came aound to the Hound's scars weren't so bad, just his angry eyes, eyes she has probably written a song about. And there is still hope for Jeyne's nose, he just wanted us to suffer worrying about it for 5 or 6 years.

(But wait, people were not supposed to care about Jeyne, I guess readers didn't get the memo.)

Sean Bean ToJ should be more like early Sharpe than LotR imo.

And poor legend MvS, he'll be as underused and wasted as all the many others that came before him.

ps: and it's not that you can't, but you don't want to complain. And fair enough, but here we're complaining.

Let's just hope they don't merge his character with Merrett Frey.

Oh no, more people wishing for a more Nolanized ASOIAF. I thought GRRM's schtick was "conflicted characters", not the Nolanesque take on "realism" in fiction. Speaking of which, I'm almost done rereading Brienne's POV and, like a lot of people, I've come to appreciate it a little more. I didn't find it tedious or boring this time, except for *parts* of chapters, particularly the one with the Nimble Dick quest. Although that one has Brienne's first kill and Shagwell's "I'm too droll to die", which totally makes up for the previous tediousness.

Ah, the Bloody Mummers, those characters the "Nolanization brigade" were so happy to have the show cut. Worthy of a Dolorous Edd remark.

This has almost definitely been talked about before, but does anyone else feel that Sansa had pretty nothing to do this entire season.

We were led to believe in the end of season four that she'd become some kind of master of the Game, but instead all we got was a repeat of her abused treatment in King's Landing at the hands of Joffrey but only this time in Winterfell and at the hands of an even worse monster.

Honestly, this show can show rape, mutilation, castration and a little girl being burned alive, but the thing that really gets me turned off from it is feeling of being bored. Sansa's story in Winterfell was just that, a boring repeat of what has been done before just amped up for shock value. I could of even accepted the rape if it actually led to her developing somehow as a character and doing something interesting, but no, she just escapes from the horrible situation without having changed or grown. Again.

God, I really do hope that she gets to led the northern lords next season or I'm just going to start fast-forwarding through her scenes.
