Battle of the Vale ?

The Vale is one of the only large armies left.  They're just sitting in the mountains like Chekhov's gun waiting to be fired.

The in-story thinking is that Sweetrobin will die, Harry the Heir and his newly revealed bride Sansa will take their army North and reclaim Winterfell, so we all know that's what's not going to happen.

As long as Robert Arryn stubbornly refuses to die, Littlefinger will have to keep up his charade.  While much has been said of the Grand Northern Conspiracy, we only have a few biased views of the Vale Lords who would like to rid themselves of the Lord Protector.  There could be something cooking there.

At this point, it's not in anyone's best interest to attack the Vale (except the hill clans), but that could change.

With Winter Coming isn't the Vale one of the most easily defensible locations in Westeros?IIRC the passes to get to the Vale are more snowed in then Caradhras pass.
Which makes any army have to take the bloody gates.Which have more than earned that name.

Unless they attack by sea as the Andals did.  The Eyrie and the gate castles are nigh impossible to take, but I don't know how defended Gulltown is.  The Lords of the Vale can't hide in their castles while the shores are attacked.

Now, who might attack by sea?  The Iron Born do nothing but attack by sea, but that's a pretty long ways off from either Euron or Victarion.  (f)Aegon has some ships, though I'd hesitate to call it a navy.  Aurane Waters stole the Lannister's ships but may be content harassing trade ships.  The Redwyne fleet has problems of its own.  Manderly apparently has a fleet in White Harbor- which is certainly close enough, but I'm not sure what his motivation would be.

They very much can - nobody cares about a couple dead fishermen and a couple raped fishwives.

All while the winter storms wreck any fleets, scatter supplies and the damn (wet) cold costs fingers, toes and ultimately lives.

An unexpected Harry the heir death would be a nice twist to the plot...

Maybe not, but they care about the ability to get food and other goods into the Vale during the winter.  Losing their primary ports would complicate that.

Their primary ports are fortified. Indeed, they are below their castles.

Any invader would have fun besieging those. Nothing like surviving frost in thin tents or trying to place a ladder upon icy surfaces while the defenders enjoy their warm fires and sufficient winter storages.

The Vale exports food anyway. They don't need the ports.

Vale armies will be used by Dany in the Second Dance. I do not expect a battle at the Vale though. The Second Dance will take place in the South.

I'm thinking Riverlands/North, to defend the realm against the Others invasion. That's why Sansa is there, to help galvanise when Jon or Dany comes calling.

It will almost mirror what happened with Visenya.

Dany will ride Drogon, land in the castle's inner courtyard, and Robert will want to ride it, thus there will be no bloodshed spilled taking the Vale.  They will fight with Dany against fAegon in Dance 2.0.

Visenya knew how to control her Dragon.  Dany doesn't.  We could end up seeing a perversion of the original event where the dragon kills Robert.

The girl just had her first flight.

Give it time.

Yes, the possibility of Drogon ending up burning and eating Robert if he tries to play with him, is also high.
