Yes, clearly it is the Black Lives Matter movement that has become toxic and is looking for trouble.

BLM participants and eyewitnesses on the scene say they were beating and chasing these people who opened fire on them.

innocent people who are attending a BLM rally, showing their support and solidarity, carrying signs to show their support, being beat on by the crowd, called white supremists, and then chased as they flee for their very lives. opening fire to defend their lives.

being discriminated against for their skin color. a terrible tragedy. someone needs to reign in these BLM racists. beating on and threatening innocent white life in the streets of minneapolis.

No actually that's not what any reports say. All the news sites are saying that the people in question were counter-protesters who had been showing up for several days. About 25 BLM protesters were escorting (their term) them away, with no indication it was violent at all. The men had actually already left the main area of the protest. A conflict of some sort broke out and most of the protesters left. And then while some BLM people were standing around to watch if they came back, some of the counter-protesters turned around and opened fire on them.

At this point of course all reports are preliminary but that's the substance of what's actually being reported right now. Specifically this wasn't self-defence since whatever conflict happened had already ended according to the reports we have.

That link did not say what you described. It was a clip of 2 people saying that a person came up to film the crowd demanding the people in the crowd to take off their masks, which led to them being chased off and punched. It didn't say that the people assumed the people filming were white supremacists.

they were being chased and beaten. clearly self defense.

in the video they say they were punching them, calling them white supremists, and chasing them.

And the video clip said that those people were carrying signs to show support, how?

So they shoot indiscriminately?  Come on, man?  We don't have a solid idea what happened, but the Minneapolis Police arrested one of the suspects.  Perhaps we should wait for more information to come out.  Also, this was taking place right outside a police precinct.  It sounds like these guys had been hanging around as a counter protest and things got heated.  I don't think anyone would say they were there to support the protests.  The only thing we know for sure is that 3 white dudes shot at a BLM protest.  Any more than that is speculation at best.

I find it telling that you immediately call them racists and want to trash the whole movement.  Should we trash Trump's campaign because the racist idiots who support him attack minorities and people they don't like. Perhaps you should ask yourself why does this bother me?  In the end, the police will arrest the men who fired the shots because even if they were chased off, you don't fire indiscriminately into a crowd.  Especially one you claim to support.

Most gun control laws currently on the books were written in the 70s with the express purpose making it harder for blacks to arm and defend themselves by denying blacks easy access to purchase guns and making it criminal for blacks to own or carry guns.

So given the recent relaxing of gun control laws, the likely result of this terrorist attack is that peaceful and well armed self defense groups like the black panthers will be revived to provide protection to BLM from terrorist attacks like those in Minneapolis.

This may make gun control legislation very popular again, particularly with republicans.

Apparently you are talking out of your ass.  So, when someone starts to chase you, you fire indiscriminately at your chasers?  In front of a police station?  White supremacist may be overboard, but from what we know, this was a group of counter protesters.  Minneapolis Police have arrested 2 suspects so far.  How about we wait to see what they have to say about it.  Or does your desire to trash BLM trump the facts?

Also, again, all the news sites I've seen are reporting that no one was being chased at the time of the shooting but that the counter-protesters were leaving at the time and the remaining BLM people were standing around making sure they didn't turn around to come back when one or more of them opened fire.

Well, let me just take my gun and my body armor out for an innocent stroll with my friend.  Whoops!  Someone thought I was a white supremacist asshole looking to start a fight because other white supremacists came along yesterday and threatened to do the exact same thing.  My stars, whoever could think that?

FYI, looks like torture is back on the menu for the GOP:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2015/11/23/donald-trump-on-waterboarding-if-it-doesnt-work-they-deserve-it-anyway/

"Would I approve waterboarding? You bet your ass I would — in a heartbeat," Trump said to loud cheers during a rally at a convention center here Monday night that attracted thousands. "And I would approve more than that. Don't kid yourself, folks. It works, okay? It works. Only a stupid person would say it doesn't work."

Trump said such techniques are needed to confront terrorists who "chop off our young people's heads" and "build these iron cages, and they'll put 20 people in them and they drop them in the ocean for 15 minutes and pull them up 15 minutes later."

"It works," Trump said over and over again. "Believe me, it works. And you know what? If it doesn't work, they deserve it anyway, for what they're doing. It works."

http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/torture-becoming-key-campaign-issue-gop-candidates

And while it’s easy to marvel at the sadistic nature of Trump’s boasts, there’s a larger context to this: he’s not the only Republican presidential candidate putting torture on the table as a 2016 campaign issue.

In June, for example, Jeb Bush was asked whether he’d preserve President Obama’s executive order prohibiting torture. “I’m not ruling anything in or out,” Bush replied. Echoing his brother, Bush added that, at least in his mind, there’s “a difference between enhanced interrogation techniques and torture.”

Two weeks earlier, Ben Carson was asked about his own approach to interrogations. “You know, what we do in order to get the information that we need is our business, and I wouldn’t necessarily be broadcasting what we’re going to do,” he responded.

In June, when the Senate voted on an anti-torture policy, Marco Rubio didn’t show up for work – try not to be surprised – but he issued a statement denouncing efforts to ban torture, arguing that he didn’t want to deny “future commanders in chief and intelligence officials important tools for protecting the American people and the U.S. homeland.”

The GOP is slowly walking from things like "waterboarding isn't torture" and "enhanced interrogation techniques" to just straight up "Yeah, let's torture some people".

I have been to the protest. I have been there in the company of white people. Guess what happened? Nothing. I was there last Friday and there were as many white people there as black (about 100 total, it was about 10:00pm). Everyone was super nice except for the police who had barricaded off the doors to the precinct so people couldn't try to keep warm in there- they pepper sprayed sleeping people in there last week. At night they shut off all the lights and crowd into the double door airlock in riot gear, one occasionally stepping out with a retractable baton and swing it around the air for a few seconds. All the protesters were talking quietly among themselves or sitting around campfires. Nobody was being harmed or harassed, no property looked damaged. The police were aware of the white supremacist plot because it was on 4chan and social media. They told protesters to disperse, but they've been telling that the whole time. They didn't come out and set up a perimeter or observe from the crowd. The gunmen showed up, and were asked to leave, which they appeared to comply with as they were escorted out by protesters. Then they turned back and opened fire on the crowd. The police came out in riot gear and pepper sprayed protesters trying to flee inside from gunshots. They did not pursue the gunmen. This is the story according to local police officers I have heard from and local news outlets and from eyewitnesses here.

I guess it's somewhat of a nice change for him to be so frank about it.

On the other hand, the guy is a dangerous fucking scumbag.
