Thanks for the results Risto (for your amusement, Autocorrect wanted to make that Aristotle ^_^

On the whole race/diversity/#osvarssowhite, apparently there were protestors at the BAFTAs too. I haven't been able to find much about it though, most articles are from rags like the daily mail and I'm not one to give their site traffic

Well, at least they nominated Elba... Although Denzel Washington has a grand total of zero BAFTA nominations. Yes, even for Malcolm X and for the movies he won the Oscar.

Anyway, the BAFTA was an award that did have some interesting results in the past until they too begun to become shameless Oscar predictors like everyone else.

You welcome... BTW, the name originates from the Christ (Hristos - Serbian version of the name). It's like Christopher in UK/US :)

I can't express how much I hate that hashtag. And the worst thing, people ate just talking about awards being so white. Didn't anyone occur that it's the problem of entire industry. But, the hypocrisy is deafening. Luckily, we have Whoopi to tell us what the problem really is.

Well, I think pages and pages can be written about who was snubbed here and there... It is general thing, nit reserved for any race. But, honestly, I just wish BAFTA was like in old days, awarding people and not caring who will take home Oscars.

Yeah, but the costume thing was hilariously wrong... Name checking through and through.

I disagree about the costume award being undeserved, good to see that for once the award didn't go to the prettiest costumes only.

Ordinarily, I would agree, but there is nothing special about Mad Max costumes. They are not even inventive or special in any sort of way. On the other hand, that Cinderella dress got the life of her own and Carol's costumes were sublime in its intellectual approach.

Of course it did and that has had gallons of ink spilled on the topic.

But...if the Academy wants to reap the benefits of being the cultural benchmark and measure for the entire movie industry then they're going to have to take their share of the focus.

It's a good problem to have, while I find the focus on certain aspects frustrating I don't weep for them.

But here is the thing. On March 1st, we will all forget about this. And then entire will pass and perhaps we will have once again all-white lineup. And then Internet will again moan. The problem is that the problem has been treated as Academy's issue, and while Academy does share its part of guilt, the problem starts months and years before the respected movie comes to the point when Academy makes decisions.

That is why I hated SAGs so much this year. Their "diverse profile" was as phony as it can be. And poor Idris Elba whose victories remain tainted of being SAGs diversity beacon. He is a great actor and he deserves so much better. Simply, awarding or nominating one or two actor from minorities doesn't solve the problem.

But, yeah, as Gervais said on Globes regarding Lawrence's essay... Let us not rally and weep for those who earn millions of dollars in a year :)

It is not my impression at all that Idris Elba's victories are tainted as some sort of SAG nod to diversity.

I think the problem is that regardless of how well deserved or not they may be, that they were given during a time of big controversy over representation in film etc. there is always going to be that taint of; well, did he get them to appease the crowds? I mean, you may not think that (having not seen the films in question it would be presumptuous if I were to say the same) but there are going to be people who do. It's like, I dunno, say you are the sports teachers child, band you tryout for the school team. You get onto he team, which is selected by your mother/father. There are going to be people who say it wasn't based on merit. Same principle here

Actually, even before the SAGs, there were a lot of talks that Elba might be victorious given the current climate in the industry. Getting two SAGs in one night is the first, not for Elba, but I think for any other actor. Thing is that Elba most likely deserved the nomination and the win, but in a climate like this, those two wins, with OITNB cast speaking about "true America" it was a bit like someone was trying to prove really hard they are not as "racist bigots" as Academy members.

Obviously, SAG-Aftra members wanted to push the message and they did. One way or another. Once again, this speaks nothing about whether Elba deserved it or his talent.

Exactly. And this is not about Elba, but the entire awarding bodies who are using this to send a message. Every newspapers in the country spoke about racially diverse SAG awards and given some rumors in weeks before SAGs and the entire climate, it doesn't have much insight to see how some members gravitate. Basically, message was sent into the air and now it is what it is.

In a way, I hate how phony this entire dialogue is. One hashtag and that is it? There are no fundamental changes in approach, Internet moans while those statues are being given and then two days after it, we are oblivious of the problem. And until the studios are being pushed into understanding that people of color don't necessarily have to be from gheto (African-American), ninjas (Asians) or terrorists (Middle-East nations), we will continue to have this problem. We need movies with POC playing the characters whose dramas, lives and issues are not narrowly connected with their skin color. In short, less slavery and rap.

The Wachowskis (Andy & Lana) Jupiter Ascending

WORST SCREENPLAY

Simon Kinberg, Jeremy Slater Fantastic Four

Kelly Marcel Fifty Shades of Grey

Andy and Lana Wachowski Jupiter Ascending

Kevin James & Nick Bakay Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - Winner

Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling Pixels

REDEEMER AWARD

Elizabeth Banks From Razzie “winning” Director for Movie 43 to Directing the 2015 hit Pitch Perfect 2

M. Night Shyamalan  From Perennial Razzie nominee & “winner” to directing the 2015 horror hit The Visit

Will Smith For following up Razzie “wins” for After Earth by starring in Concussion

Sylvester Stallone From All-Time Razzie Champ to 2015 Award Contender for Creed - Winner

I must say, they are stretching things a bit nominating MNS for a redeemer award when his so-called hit movie only managed 63% score on Rotten tomatoes, and it didn't manage to make over $100 million globally (though it made a huge profit with only a $5 million budget). Perhaps with MNS the lower the budget the better the movie.
