Mladen
That is very good to hear How? As I heard someone said, it is like plane going back to pick missing passengers. It is idiotic and they only want to jump on the wagon. The thing is that it should have been nominated. It didn't. Due to the fact it simply didn't meet the deadline and there were no screenings (understanding, given that every major contender was leaked last week). And to speak about the idiocy, they only nominated it in Best Movie category. What about effects, sound, cinematography, costumes etc? I mean, really, really, really dumb decision. On that note, between Force Awakens, Mad Max and The Martian, which sci-fi spectacle will be Academy's darling? Looking at the categories they have, Jurassic World was some nods, in action movie, sci-fi/horror, and best actress in action movie. TFA is better than Jurrasic World in all these categories, so I would they should add it there, too.
Veltigar
On that note, between Force Awakens, Mad Max and The Martian, which sci-fi spectacle will be Academy's darling? If we're going with best film, than definitely Fury Road. However, it's the academy, so the one that provides the most chance for a circle jerk will take the cake.

In that case, it is not brainer I just think that Fury Road would do really great if there are no other sci-fi contenders. Some people think Martian can be Best Picture winner...Yeah I agree with this. TFA is better than Jurrasic World in all these categories, so I would they should add it there, too. And that is the problem here. It is not that easy just to make an extra space in one category... God, this year really sucks on all fronts. Category frauds, dramas for comedies, leads for supporting... What once was one man, ahem, Harvey, is now apparently entire Hollywood. Veltigar
I liked Force Awakens more than Fury Road....Et tu, Red, tu quoque fili mi Seriously, enjoyment is something else all together, but Fury Road is certainly the best blockbuster of the year Heck, it's one of the best films of the year all round In that case, it is not brainer I just think that Fury Road would do really great if there are no other sci-fi contenders. Some people think Martian can be Best Picture winner....Some people are nuts. The Martian won't win a thing (except perhaps some random technical awards, but I'm guessing TFA and Fury Road will sweep those as well) I think Fury Road's biggest drawback for Acadamy Awards consideration is TFA. It might lure enough people who are willing to vote on a blockbuster away to have it miss out on many of the big awards as sad as that is
Mladen
Seriously, enjoyment is something else all together, but Fury Road is certainly the best blockbuster of the year Heck, it's one of the best films of the year all round I was quite surprise to see how far it went with the Critics associations. And then when I thought a bit more about it, it was quite understanding. It is really, really great movie. Some people are nuts. The Martian won't win a thing (except perhaps some random technical awards, but I'm guessing TFA and Fury Road will sweep those as well) I think Fury Road's biggest drawback for Acadamy Awards consideration is TFA. It might lure enough people who are willing to vote on a blockbuster away to have it miss out on many of the big awards as sad as that is People saw The Martian as 2015's Gravity. But Gravity had the luxury of being one of its kind. Here we have three of them. Tech awards most certainly will be divided between them, or one would be sweeping all the way. I wouldn't underestimate TFA, especially having in mind how much Academy loves its blockbusters - Titanic, Return of the King. Also, will Domnhall Gleeson break the record this year as a man who acted in 3,4 Academy Award nominated movies in a single year? He and Alicia Vikander became seals of approval this year. Corvinus85
Booo on BAFTA for not giving more love to Mad Max. And what's with the love for Bridge of Spies? I haven't seen it, is it really that good? But yay!!! for John Williams getting recognition for the Star Wars soundtrack once again. And as expected Star Wars and Mad Max are going head-to-head in all the technical categories. The visual effects category is of no surprise. I haven't seen Ex Machina, but all the others deserve to be in that category.
Veltigar
And what's with the love for Bridge of Spies? I haven't seen it, is it really that good?Spielberg + Tom Hanks = people cream their pants even if the film they make isn't that good. I'll probably watch it, mainly because I'll have to stomach another Spielberg soon now that he got his hands on BFG, but the man's overrated imo. All in all the Bafta nominees seem quite safe choices. I haven't seen Ex Machina, but all the others deserve to be in that category. You really should. It's a great film imo
Padraig
I thought Bridge of Spies was a great film. Old fashioned, yes. But that can be a good thing when we get overwhelmed with comic book movies. And it's easy to be over rated when you have gotten the critical and popular acclaim that Spielberg has gotten throughout his career.

So, adding SW makes sense on that note.
Howdyphillip
Matt Damon - Best Actor in a comedy or musicalThat Martian movie was hilarious right? Although he deserves the honor, putting it in this category is a joke.
Winterfell is Burning
Stallone and Winslet winning in supporting isn't surprising- usually, when there's no clear favorite, the HPFA votes on the biggest star nominated.
