There are always anime shows waiting to be seen, Buck ;)

I'm watching Gintama atm. It's comedy with some serious notes once in a while. I rarely laugh out loud at shows but this is gold. The fourth wall is completely shattered.

I should warn you Buck, Poldark is pornography (of the worst kind.)

Athelstan is fine when he's being pagan. Less-so otherwise.

That's what happens when you worship the wrong gods.

Huh? I'm confused...

Bucky, I should probably disclose that I haven't actually seen the entire season 1, but I have read the first two books (which conclude at where S1 left off apparently) and seen the first two episodes, and have the word of people on the forum I trust that it was a good series. I am now confused by Ab's comment. I suspect he is just jealous because These abs be better than his Ab

Thank you for the recommendation, I will probably give Poldark a try.

Yesterday I watched the first episode of Grimm though, and it looked very interesting, so I might continue with that for a while.

We can. ;)

I agree he was the representation of the main conflicts, and I loved his position in-between. I loved watching him between two different faiths, that was the most interesting character development for me. There were plenty of characters wanting to kill him, true ... but I wanted to keep watching him. :(

Other characters changing their clothes ... Yeah, that does not really happen.

I am sure the faculties need reinforcement, but they cannot afford it, that is the problem I think. Or something. I am not sure. Anyway, lets stop that silly conversation because it does not go anywhere. I want to gather some work experience and stuff before I even think of doing a PhD.

:o Helena, really? That is what you are recommending to me? Shame on you!

Athelstan is fine whatever he is doing. :smug:

And I will have you know that I worship no false or wrong gods. Hail Freya! :commie:

Well I'm sure the labor market cannot wait to welcome you.

Wow. Wow. That was one stressful 40 minutes of my life.

Conclusion: Wikipedia never lies.

Spoiler

So, Ragnar has been feeling pretty crappy for the past episodes and I had been quite worried. However, I am obsessive enough to have googled his status back in season 1 when he was dying for the first time, and according to Vikings Wiki, he is ALIVE. I have also googled his original death (though it is controversial whether he even existed historically or he is just a Norse legend) and that is not dying in Paris. The benefits of being obsessive about your shows. So I kept telling myself, that's okay, he'll recover, this is not the time or way for him to die. Then he kept getting worse and worse and worse. And Floki was making the final boat and he kept saying he was dying. All the while, I kept telling myself, no, no, he will recover someone. And then they closed to coffin over his head. And I was like No!!!! No, Ragnar is alive, that has to be a trick. And then they all said goodbye to him and it was sad and  heartbreaking and I was like no, this is impossible, Wikipedia said he is alive! He cannot die! He cannot be dead! It must be a trick! And I ranted and ranted and ranted about how Ragnar cannot die while they carried his coffin to the gate. What nice Viking music by the way. And he was on his way to his Christian funeral to meet Athelstan in heaven and I slowly admitted that Wikipedia is a fucking liar and broke my heart because Ragnar is gone. And the next moment he jumped out of the fucking coffin. Just when I finally believed that he is really dead! What the hell! Why would they say their goodbyes then? Oh of Course, only Bjorn knew, his son and not his leaders. Oh hey, that's the exact same as it had been King Ecbert's master plan. So it was Michel Hirst* who fucked me over after all, and not Wikipedia. Boy, that was stressful.

eta: let me just add, I went as far as pausing the show to check whether Travis Fimmel is credited for season 4 or not, to see if Ragnar really is dead. FYI, episode casts for s4 aren't out yet, so that was a dead end.

Btw, I officially hate the French princess. Spoiled, judgmental hypocrite shit. And she is even stupid. She is so much better off with Rollo than that disgusting old pervert count.

*Fun fact (in case you are not as obsessive an audience as I am and don't google the shit out of tv shows) - both Michael Hirst's daughters star in the show, they play Helga and Torvi. Maude Hirst aka Helga also stars in Tudors which also happened to be created by Michael Hirst. So I guess I can just stop feeling shit about my daddy getting my jobs.

What do I watch now?

You could also have watched the Season 4 trailer and found out

Rollo's smile

Have you tried Sense8? Downton Abbey? Downton is 6 seasons and a few specials so that should keep you busy. Sense8 has only had one season so far though, but I really liked it. Lito <3 Riley <3

edit: duh, brain fart. If you liked Vikings Rhae, you should give The Last Kingdom a try. Another historical drama, set slightly after the events in Vikings (for context, some of the characters are children of the historical/legendary figure of Ragnar Lodbrok - I.e. The Ragnar in Vikings). Not sure how easy BBC shows are to get a hold of over on mainland Europe but well worth it if you can!

I guess that goes for Buckwheat too actually

Sadly I only found out about the existence of such well after the struggles :crying:

I'm somewhat afraid to set out on a downton abbey journey because it's a lot of episodes and might devour all my free time that I should be spending writing an effing thesis. Will check out the last kingdom, thanks for the recommendation :)

A reasonable fear. I started the journey during exam period last year...in hindsight, probably not the wisest idea I have ever had!

Happy Mardi Gras my lovelies!   My house is covered in wigs and glitter.  I can't find anything.  Drinking coffee right now and getting ready for champagne.  I need a quick shower and then I'm have to find the rest of my costume!   WOOT!

I saw some cute groups of children masked as all sorts of things earlier today.

I still cannot understand how Ragnar was supposed to have survived those wounds. He was peeing blood for days, he had internal bleeding and all ... and then he is suddenly okay? I was told in the Vikings thread that it is apparently medically possible, but I still do not know HOW. Ah well.

Did you also laugh at Rollo's greeting? One of the funniest parts of the show. :D That count is weird, yes.

 at daddy getting the jobs. Yes, I suppose one can stop feeling shit about that (I have gone through a similar thing).

You could join me watching Grimm now?

Or Downton Abbey!

Poldark is historical yes. Pre-Downton though. Um....1700s/1800s I think? Its set in Cornwall and follows a mining family. Somewhat wealthy (or, part of the family anyway) but not near as much as the Grantham estate. It also has someone called Verity. ;) I hadn't realised it was a female name too.

Well Sense8 and Vikings I watched during my long summer off uni (3 months though...) along with other stuff like Downton etc. The Last Kingdom was only on fairly recently (October it started I think) and I watched that on from week to week as it aired so it wasn't as bad. Same with War and Peace. As I said too, I never finished Poldark because I got too busŷ and they took it off iPlayer before I could get around to watching.

But I have not really been in the mood for watching TV shows much lately.

When I first read the back cover text on Asassin's Apprentice, I thought that Chivalry was a female name. :)

It does sound interesting. For some time.

1.  Happy Mardi Gras.

2. Poldark tv series/books, both very much worth your while (and very easy on the eyes).

3.  Also have been watching Last Kingdom intermittently.  NOT as good.

4.  Enjoyed Outlander series season 1 too - good eye candy there as well.  A little bit *less* in a lot of ways than the books, which is a good thing.

The world does not consist of extroverted team workers. There are many jobs that require the kind of character you describe. don't underestimate your qualities, anyone should be happy to employ someone as dedicated, focused, hard working and willing to learn as you.

I might as well join you for Grimm. Will check it when I get home.

Spoiler

Yeah, that was why I got worried too. His masive internal bleeding was a good enough cause of death. On the journey home he was still huddled in blankets and not entirely alright. That made it a bit believable. Well, Ragnar is one damn lucky guy.

In any case, what I said about the show being realistic in the beginning, I'm kinda taking it back. It's not too bad, but they definitely let go of a few boundaries of reality.

Yeah, Rollo was funny. And if I'm not mistaken, he cuts his hair in season 4? Huge improvement.

Welcome back Mlle Zabzie!

Have fun, Lily :D

I usually enjoy historical fiction, but I couldn't get invested in Poldark (the TV show). I saw a few eps, but perhaps it gets better after a while idk. Not Outlander either, but it works in lack of better things to see. Borgias has ruined me for good historical TV fiction perhaps. I have just seen a few eps here and there of Downton, but on the whole I think I would enjoy it.
Last Kingdom was not really great either, but who doesn't enjoy leather armour and stuff  It's tangent to Vikings so I saw it, and it's an interesting visualisation of the past, however fictional.

Lord Sidious, ah the darkness of your soul... It's like a compressed little rubber ball of hate and evil, waiting and preparing to be planted into a scheme of world domination by bunnies. Where did you stray from here? Where did our ways part? Oh my heart....

I know it does not, it just looks that way ... like, every add ever says "we need somebody communicative, team-working blablabla". I am sure you know what I am talking about. :)

Spoiler

Boundaries of reality ... yeah, well ... *points at Harbard*

I did not see Rollo with short hair. Will see very soon in the first episode, hopefully!

Get better and make yourself some tea!

Blah. I managed to write the abstract and summary and all that nonsense and even managed to cut the paper down to just under the limit (who in seven hells was I writing that **** for?! :tantrum::angry::angry2: ), but I am not happy with it because I am missing an ending that makes sense and concludes the paper and it looks like I left something out, so this thing is now just hanging out there* and I need to write a conclusion, but then I will be over the length limit again and I obviously I do not want to leave more things out, since I already cut away one third of the stupid paper (I mean, don't you dare call my paper stupid, only I can do that, it is a smart paper, the length restriction is what is stupid, obviously)  and if I start cutting away more information, it will be intelligible. I am afraid it might already be, and that is by no means okay! I might just make myself out to be stupid and say that I thought that the source list was not considered part of the letters count, which would allow me to add some more, but then I am afraid they will not publish it or just cut away something without me knowing it, and I am a control freak and do not want anybody changing my perfectly good paper, thankyouverymuch (except if you are correcting grammar mistakes, especially in the English summary, then you are forgiven). I do hope that English summary is not the worst thing ever, I suddenly stop trusting my English skills when I have to write something serious in English! Okay, enough of that nonsense. What you can take from this, I am not good with length restrictions. My thesis was/is more than twice as long as it was supposed to be, only nobody complained because it was me who was paying for printing that time. <_<

*Ten points to whoever can name the movie that reference is from. :ninja:

Has anybody seen FOMN? He has not checked in in a few days. And LT/KT! He is gone missing!

EDIT: Ninjad by Zabzie. Hello Zabzie! I have not seen this War and Peace, but I have seen some parts from an older TV series based on it.

I enjoyed the first two Poldark books so far. Slowly making my way through them. Got a bit tears eyed at the end of Demelza :crying:

War and Peace was good, from the perspective of someone who hasn't read the novel. There are some issues - I know the costumes have bothered some people for being inaccurate for the time period. And obviously it lacks some of the depth and nuance that you get from books. But on the whole I rather enjoyed it, and there were some scenes that were especially beautiful. Give it a try, see what you think. Lily James was also very good in it, as were most of the cast really.
