Peaky Blinders will be coming back soon - in May, as we learned today. No official date announced as of yet. Here's a brief clip of Cillian Murphy;

 As you can see from the advert, the show will still be on BBC2. No jump to BBC1 yet.

I still need to watch this series, I caught the first couple of episodes, but got sidetracked and didn't get back to it for reasons I can't recall.  I'll rewatch the first couple again and start tomorrow so I can be in on the new season 3 banter when it opens.  Daredevil was the only other show I'd not been caught up on, and I just finished doing both seasons in a marathon, so I don't have any excuses now for Peaky.  Boardwalk Empire is the only other one I can think of that I need to slug through as well.

US Netflix will be streaming this from 31st May, which puts US viewers in the peculiar position of being able to spoil us Brits on the final two episodes before we see them -_-

Meanwhile, I shall be watching episode one this evening :D

eta: very good first episode. Strong acting, great use of music, everything I loved about season one and two still there but the implication that it's on a much larger scale with far greater stakes.

I was surprisingly not bothered by Tommy and Grace getting married. Thought I might be since I didn't really like Grace's character in the first two seasons but seems like it should work, and Cillian Murphy and the actress (i forget her name) have a good on-screen chemistry together. I also love the antagonism between her and Pol. Very telling that it was Pol who gave the "neither do the Shelbys" line (talking about forgiveness. She'll never warm to Grace IMO.

Also, anyone else think Arthur's wife(?) looked a lot like Grace? I actually thought it was Grace when the camera passed her in the Church.

Really liked Ada's brief appearance too. That she has become very involved in politics and socialism just feels completely right for her character's path since season one.

All in all a strong opener and promising start to the season.

And from a review;

They didn’t show the moving-day scene of that Downton lot sobbing as they trailed down their former driveway, dragging their hat boxes behind them as the Shelbys motored in whooping, but you can amuse yourself by imagining it.)

:lol: that image really makes me laugh and I need to see this on tv

Damn.  I'll be on the road in South Carolina and Georgia when season 3 begins streaming on netflix.  Pouts.

Also, envious of HelenaExMachina for already having watching the first episode.

But I have nobody to talk about it with! :(

Not sure if anyone followed casting news or not, but Alexander Siddig is in this season :D

Episode 2;

Really great episode, you can really feel the high stakes Tommy is playing at now. His little empire has expanded so much that it is inevitable that it will crash in places.

The scene between Tommy and the Priest in the prison cell was brilliant and that priest is such a sinister character. Chilling in every scene, but especially when he threatened little Charlie.

HelenMcCrory looked stunning in that gown, must say. And :lol: at "It was made in Paris..." "It was stole in Birmingham."

Was genuinely surprised by the ending. And I'd just stared to like Grace too, I hope she doesn't die. :(

I love Ada too, I hope she isn't the next victim of Tommy's enemies.

looking forward to Tom Hardy's return whenever he is back. I would guess next week.

Cant believe the season will be half finished next week. 6 episodes seems like nothing at all.

That was yet another marvellous episode. Loved Helen McCrory and Alexander Siddig's scene. It was great overall, but Cillian Murphy was certainly showcasing his talents to the fullest extent. No surprise, given the events of last week (I won't say exactly what happened) but he really was outstanding. Especially the scene with the Russians.

"What did your father do, Mr. Shelby?"

"He told fortunes. And stole horses....Sometimes, he would tell people their horse would be stolen, and they would marvel when his prediction came true." (Paraphrased) :lol:

Another reminder of how brutal the Shelbys are again.

And of course as always I loved the music. Anachronistic but it works so well.

As great as Cillian Murphy has been (and he has been great), the performance/storyline I am enjoying the most is Arthur's. It doesn't get a ton of time, but I feel like he has been the character with the most growth besides Tommy. I'm not usually into stories like these, but I love that Arthur is being pulled in two different directions, his old life of boozing and fighting, and a more calm, happy life, which I get the impression he feels he doesn't deserve.

Yes, I was going to mention at too but didn't really have much time last night. I love how torn he is between his wife, child and possibility of a quiet life and his life as a gangster, which is all he has ever known until now. I agree with you that he doesn't think he deserves it. I also think he fears it a little. It's unknown to him, all he has ever known is a life of crime and violence, and this opportunity for change is scary. And his family isn't making it easy for him either.

Oh, and I'm also really enjoying Michael chafing at being he "respectable face of the business".

And yes yes yes to is line:

 “I am planning to seduce you eventually and please God sleep with you."

"...Why would that please God?"

Is Peaky Blinders really that good?  I tried a few episodes and thought it looked very cliched and predictable.  When Cillian's character watches the Irish mole bartender singing beautifully to break up a fight I almost had to vomit.  And the family dynamic and sibling rivalry looked ripped straight from The Godfather.
