Broadchurch to return for a third and final season

The first episode was a chilling hour of TV. Deeply unsettling and I think it was intentional to have police staff come off as incredibly cold while professing to be supportive - a hint at the sterilty of protocol in public services which was nicely contrasted by Colman's character.

There's a nice set up for a whodunnit although the "suspects" are almost hamfistedly introduced in this episode with one of them already looking so obvious they can only be a red herring.

The show has wisely chosen to ignore a lot of season 2 in such a way that many viewers could watch this season having only seen season 1. You just need to know that Tennant has got back together with his daughter. Several characters from season 1 are back and one of them has been given a fairly organic involvement in the case.

Colman's character's family life is still looked in on and the scene with her son at school was quite interesting and fits in thematically with the main story to some extent

It may even have raised the possibility that the attacker may have been a school student and I wouldn't rule out their being mobile footage of the attack turning up in later episodes. I hope the son isn't a suspect as that's pretty harsh for his mum to deal with although in many ways it could fit

It remains to be seen if the show will continue to be good - i recall season 2 starting fairly well. My main concern is that I think the subject matter may be too offputting for many viewers. There's something unsettling about seeing the victims' suffering contiue beyond the crime that makes it harder than a murder show in some ways. I think it's perfectly understandable why viewers would switch off because of that. They seem to be handling it sensitively so far and I get the impression the writers have done some research on how these crimes are dealt with initially in the UK.

Finished watching episode 6 of the latest series. The show is back on form.I will just have to pretend season 2 doesn't exist.:P

The mystery has been great so far, just like in season 1.I have no suspects yet dammit! :D The post-Danny storyline ended on a sad note though.Great performance by Andrew Buchan. What this family has gone through..sheesh.:(

Best line of the episode: “Might put you in charge of bollockings from now on, Miller.” “Fine by me.” :D

Spoiler

Is Mark dead? i think so.

So Miller's son has been getting his stash of porn from his friend's taxi driver dad. That guy is creepy.

Wonder what they will find on Trish''s laptop which they recovered from her ex? There's another shady dude!

I can't get past the absurdity of season 2.

it was a case of almost wishing David Tennant's character woke up from his heart operation and saying "season 2 was all a dream". Luckily virtually nothing has been carried over from season 2 besides Tennant reuiniting with his daughter. Everything else (besides the season 1 murderer not being in jail) could have happened without season 2.

It has been good so far. Personally I think there are multiple culprits and

there's a rape-porn community sharing files. I think some of them may think it's "play acting" and are now panicking that it isn't which is why everyone appears guilty

The only thing that distracts me is the number of comedians in the show, Lenny Henry, Charlie Higson (fast show) and Jim Howick (horrible histories). I keep expecting the chuckle brothers to be the real villains.

Watching the latest episode.

Girl being interviewed: "I like a DILF"

DI Hardy: "A DILF?"

:lmao:

With an eye on Tennant :)

I thought it was a bit of a cop-out from the cliffhanger last episode but guess that family has had enough tragedy.

who was on the photo on the keyring that the taxi driver's wife found? I'm guessing if it was one of the victims it means the taxi driver is (one of) the attackers? Although guy in the garage was also looking mighty suspect too.

If this is the last series i guess we won't get much resolution for the detectives but i guess that's never a major concern in these shows.

Not necessarily, at least not when the credits start to roll.

Spoiler

Personally I don't find it believable that Mark would commit suicide. Especially not after he found out that he was too late to save his son. That was clearly a large part of his grief/guilt complex. I would have found it more believable for Mark to have killed Joe, found that it didn't actually help him get over the grief and guilt and then commit suicide because on top of his grief he's now a murderer.
