At the meeting D$D had with GRRM to decide whether he would allow them to adapt AsoiaF instead of asking the D$s "who is Jon Snows mother" the George should probably asked "did you like my books?" or perhaps more importantly "have you read them?" beacuse I am now inclined to believe that the correct answer to both would have been "NO"!

He should've asked them to write a long essay about themes and do very in-depth character analyses, as well as a plan of how exactly they plan to adapt it into a TV show. And he should've demanded a contract that would give him superior creative control over the show (at least that's what I would do I was George, but I realise this would interfere with his book writing). He shouldn't have asked who Jon's mother as the decisive question as to whether or not D&D are fit to adapt his work, wasn't R+L=J a popular theory years before the meeting ever occurred? It's really not that hard to figure out.

Well, they read the books, at least, the first three books. The last two they may read then in the same way a student read a text book (with a subject he doesn't care about) one day before a test. The right question should be "What do you like in my books specifically?" asking them to make a essay about the books (like a 8th grade book report) would be a good idea. But, I think if George just asked for their credentials or something they wrote it would be just enough.

Yeah this is my overriding feeling on it. I probably will for the first episode because I'm not working Monday.

This.

I thought all 3 ToJ Kingsguard were renamed? Like there was an article about that a few days ago? Or was that confirmed to be lies?

Also, minor rant: I was in a B&N today and saw that aGoT now has a new cover based off of the banner for this scene with the HoBaW faces. First of all, that seems rather spoilery for the first book, so nitpick there. Second of all, I became aware of the fact that once tWoW comes out, the only cover of it we'll get will be based off of the show and just... ugh. I don't want show crap on my cover of tWoW, I want something simple like the old covers.

So much this. I'm prepared to spend extra not to have any show alignment on my book. :(

Same.

I think it's obvious now that they've announced the shortened final seasons that the "We don't have the time" excuse (that they've been feeding us for YEARS) was never valid. The things they actually didn't have: patience, foresight, talent, and taste.

:agree:

You have to wonder if Dr Bashir read the scripts why he signed on, he was a real loser in this incarnation!

Probably read the book or even just the wiki entry for Doran and thought, "Fire and blood!  Fantastic speech!  I'm in!"  Poor soul.

I was just watching some YT video about GoT and saw this comment (with quite some likes to it):

Quote

Everyone says Ramsay is worse than Joffery but Ramsay's a bad guy some people should actually route for because of his cunningness. Something Joffrey never had. Also in just one season, we get 3 characters who people say are now worse than Joffrey and Cersei. being Ramsay, Stannis (even though he's been killed off) and Ollie

Great job D$D, you really nailed it.:bang:

You know, today is the last day of proper calm before the storm. I am trying to think of an appropriate speech or quote from the books as we prepare ourselves for tonight and the next ten weeks, but I got nothing. New things to rant about. More facepalming and facedesk-ing. More enduring the praise of the critics. One can only hope that in our darkest hour, George will come to us and say "I finished Winds. Here's the release date." And we shall cheer. Yaaaaay.

To me the book stuff that is the most fitting description of the show and all they've butchered is Manderly's words to Davos:

The arrogance of it! They do not expect the north readers to believe their lies, not truly <...> I had no choice but to eat all this excrement and praise the taste.
<...>but never think that means I have forgotten. The north readers remembers, Lord Davos. The north remembers, and the mummer's farce is almost done."

Not that hard to google it, I agree.

Just reading an interview with Iwan Rheon about Ramsay:

"I pitched Ramsay somewhere between the Joker from The Dark Knight and Dennis the Menace, wit a bit of Liam Gallagher in there."

Dennis.

The.

Menace.

:bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

That says it all, doesn't it? I mean, WTF.

Manderly could be talking directly about D$Ds mummers farce, because the readers will remember!

Especially considering Ramsay is just a secondary character important in Theons arc. When Did D$D decide to make him the absolute star of the northern plot and hero who can bring about Stannis destruction with just 20 good men and a heaping helping of local knowledge, Dennis the menace, nice work D$D! Beautiful!

I know. It's completely insane, imo. Watching the show has become not only painful but a string of WTF moments with no respite.

You know, I feel, really, really, really horrible about having mailed his agent a couple of years ago, back when I still liked the show. Even if there is a minuscule chance of my letter and the book-passages I had sent them were read and had a slight influence on him going to the casting.

I mean... dafuq... that was it?!? That's why they included Dorne? Just to abort it now in the laziest and most unmotivated way possible? It wouldn't surprise me that much if Faullaria and the Sand Snakes just die of strokes in episode 2 so that they don't need to show any repercussions and pretend Porne doesn't exist.

Seriously, the spoilers make me falter. I wanted to get the episodes to rant with all of you, but I doubt I am strong enough for that. One can stand only so much horrible at once... and they ramping up the OMG-Youtube-Shockmoments-Count makes me dread for everything. It's "The Walking dead Characters" right now. And... I don't want to get soiled by that...

Ugh... I'll try, but I can't guarantee I can watch more than a couple of episodes... I hope a week is enough to recover from that... Even though I have three lectures with that unsullied fellow student I converted to a ranter last season. Might be we rile each other up instead.

The reconfiguring of Ramsay from a physically repellent individual with kingdom-known sadistic proclivities to a cheeky chappie, Shades of Grey, cute guy with a girlfriend (using the actor who was a hero in Misfits was probably intentional) was one of the most dubious and manipulative things I think they've done. It looks like they hope to top that this season.

Don't worry mate, D$D don't need your help to stuff things up and butcher the story. They probably only cast him if they thought he was nothing like book Doran, I think that's what D$D go for, it helps to SHOCK the book purists!

It astonishes me that there are still people willing to defend the "Sansa in Winterfell" arc from any kind of historical perspective. You don't marry somebody to get revenge on them. Sansa was a moron. LF was a moron. The Boltons were morons. Everybody is a moron, that's the only way the plot works. Here, have an emmy.
