... Changing the individual she gets her powers from is one thing, but the power's source is something else entirely

Oh nopes!

I hadz a thought.   And it struck me with an anti-viagral effect:

if they change the Mar Vell character to an existing character in the movies, there'd only be one candidate who'd fit the bill, really, as sufficiently cosmic to grant the Captain her abilities.   Possible spoiler.... are they having StarLord's daddy die off in place of Mar Vell ?????    I'm almost 400% certain they are, based on nothing.   Well not nothing.  It's a feeling based on..... that's the only available vine to swing to that's been set up in any of the movies.

Nooooo :D

For some reason, I am rooting for Henry. I have no idea why, but I feel that there is something somewhere below all that cringe-worthy attempts of acting he has blessed us lately. But, I do think he can be great, even perfect Superman. He just needs to learn how to enjoy the said role.

Well I know one reason.

The other thing I just learned (thanks Comicbook Girl 19, epic history X-men series) is that Earth-616 is "our" Earth. I never knew that.

I like that it's not #1, the idea that there is a 'true' universe is a bit silly in my mind.

Yeah, he is a good-looking man but Hollywood is filled with those. Plus, I preferred him clean-shaved like in Man from UNCLE than like that :D I think there is something very classical to him, like 1950s Hollywood actors. In 2007 he was the unluckiest man in Hollywood, now he is Superman. I hope he can make some really good movies.

That has Taika Waititi written all over it. Impressed by how well Hemsworth pulled of comedy-Thor though, not that I've seen him try comedy before. Suffice it to say, I quite enjoyed it.

He was great in the new Ghostbusters remake. He should definitely do more comedies.

I loved his smile while reading the rune note about Daryl staying out his room, he looked so pleased with himself, plus he has a nice smile.

Alan Moore coined it and I think it has something to do with the arcane. I think 616 is also 666 or something. It's hard to keep track of what's real and made up surrounding Alan Moore.

Heh.

I'd love that to be in continuity! I guess I can pretend it is. It'd be great if Thor is the one who's put the infinity gems and Thanos together on his own.

very reminiscent of his work on "what we do in the shadows".

According to several critics he was the most funny person in Ghostbusters. It may be worth watching it just for that.

I feel like Taika Waititi would be better utilised in the MCU by producing a whole bunch of alt-Marvel short mockumentaries. All of Waititi's best work is when he's unconstrained by studio controllers. Can he do a good job with Thor? Yes. Will it be Waititi's best work? No. 'Boy', 'What We do in the Shadows', and 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' will all be better Taika Waititi movies. Will it be the best Thor movie? Maybe. Though, considering the worldwide gross for all of Waititi's movies is less than the cast meal budget for one MCU movie, audience familiarity with his style and brand of movie making is very low. Those of us who know and love his work may really like Thor 3. But those who are unfamiliar may not like it.

MCU/Thor fans really need to do a Taika Waititi movie marathon to get familiar with his vibe if they haven't already watched his 3 latest feature films.

Yeah, for sure. I'm curious to see how he's going to handle a giant action film like Thor 3. If this mockumentary is any indication though, the film will not be in short supply with comedy.

The thing is unless Waititi has script input then there's not a lot he can do to put his comedy stylings into the movie. And it looks like officially he doesn't have a writing credit. Can a director tell the writers that "this scene needs more humour, something like..."?

Well, the old joke is the writer is the most important person to a movie until they actually start making the movie. Usually the director decides how the scene is shot and what the final film looks like, but this is a MARVEL film. Based on how soured Joss Wheddon was after Avengers 2, my guess is Kevin Feige technically has "final cut" on all the MARVEL films even though they'd never call it "Final cut" because they'd never get quality directors.

But another way to look at it is MARVEL picked him to direct because the script already had a comedic element to it. I think the Hulk/Thor scenes are tailor made for a comedic tone. I read somewhere (probably in this thread) that Thor 3 is almost like a buddy-cop movie in the Thor/Hulk dynamic.

I had heard the designations are actually about the debut of that universe: the 616 debuted in June 61, thus 616.
