[Spoilers] Criticize Without Repercussion

One thing that nobody has mentioned but is entirely criticizable is that they teased us with naked Khaleesi, but in the end it was just that, a tease...

Hey, I represent the pervie side of the audience! :leer: But in a more serious tone, I don't even know what to add at the moment that hasnt been mentioned by all of you.

Well I am a feminist, and I really resent the shit out of feminism being blamed for this! Especially when book Ellaria was an actual voice of reason in the Dornish subplot and has been changed to some one who makes book Cersei look smart and reasonable.

Make it a third. Not a feminist nor I follow (so-called) feminist media, and this show is shit.

And many feminists also love this show, so... :dunno: To each their own?

Also, not only they write women wrong, they also write men really bad... it's like everybody up in the Wall is a rapist...!

Thank you, you two. D&D dont know how to write, period. And all their writers and directors are guys too, ever notice that?

So I know that the Mel reveal was supposed to be this huge ZOMG SHE'S OLD thing but I'm confused by the mechanics : is the amulet just a glamour or does it actually de-age someone?

Because if it's just a glamour then damn Mel's been doing a lot of physical stuff that would be hard for someone older like the constant riding and the stairs at the Wall and Dragonstone-I'm thinking Master Cresswen level agonies here.

I think the glamour is a de-ager as well as just some really strong cover up. The real question is, how she managed to stay alive that long anyway. What extends her life? Is it the ruby in the choker? Or is there some kind of spell? Im honestly getting really annoyed by people ragging on the naked old lady business because i honestly saw that scene as something else than trying to show tits for the sake of tits. Someone had an inclination of what narrative means when writing that, and yet again, people misunderstood what was going on. <_<

They should have just nuked Dorne from orbit.

They more or less did.

Is it me, or is Emelia Clarke getting worse? (Id also like to add, shes like the only member of the core cast that has been hella enthusiastic and "oh this is gonna ROCK!" While the others are like "lmao i need a drink and iron my dog."

Well, of course Emilia Clarke is enthusiastic as shit.  She is one of the worst actors on the show and will probably have a difficult time getting roles one day once people stop caring about GoT. This is the best it's getting for her. I'm honestly a little surprised she still got offers after her Breakfast as Tiffany's debacle, but the GoT hype is too big right now.  I do doubt she'll be offered a Broadway role again though.

I hope someone will make another fabulous Larry/ Carol video. (Larrol? Carry?) You know, extended version, to the tune of "The Power of Love," including - as flashbacks/ fond memories - the happy times, the good that's come of their lurve: the highlights of Joffs, including the aesthetically pleasing killing of Roz; Bran, er, falling out of a window (and, of course, the lovely Larrol scene before that;) Myrcella's brief happiness about being the illegitimate child of incest, and so on...

One thing that really stood out for me was.... are we supposed to forget why Marg is in prison? The punishment for perjury seems really harsh, more so than a queen committing adultery while the King was still alive. And she confesses that "none of us are [innocent]"? Is she feeling bad about not telling someone that Loras was gay? Or does she have her own internal guilt, like abusing Tommen. I don't know why the High Grandpa just doesn't release her if he wants her to be back with TomTom so badly? The only good thing about this is that fan favourite, Septa Spoonella is back again.

Since the forum is so slow for me, I can't keep hopping between threads, so one review of the episode, good + bad lumped together:

Overall, 5/10

The good parts:

·         Theon, Sansa, Brienne, and Pod: I liked the desperate run, with good music accompanying the scene; I also liked the fight, with Brienne struggling a bit, which made it more realistic, and Pod showing that he is learning some swordsmanship from Brienne; the Brienne-Sansa oath was also good; there were 2 bad things in this whole sequence:

o   When the fight started, the hounds mysteriously disappeared

o   Since I like soundtracks, and I generally pay attention to them when watching something, at one point I thought I was hearing the soundtrack from Man of Steel (Hans Zimmer); I hope Djawadi isn’t stealing stuff from others, because so far the GOT soundtrack has been excellent

Daenerys: I liked her scenes with the Dothraki, even if some of the dialogue was a bit silly, like the Dothraki talking about her “white haired pussy” or what is best in life, which reminded me of Conan the Barbarian. I also don’t know why she insisted of saying all her titles to the khal, which is something that other people do for her. But I did like the acting there, and just the overall tension of the scene.

The scenes at Castle Black: the only thing I didn’t like was that the conspirators left Jon’s body there, to be found by Davos. If they had immediately taken it, and maybe hanged him or whatever, then the whole standstill situation with Davos and the others need not have happened. Thorne had to explain his actions anyway, so what difference did it make not putting Jon’s body in a gibbet, or cutting his head off and putting it on a spike. But I did like Davos, I liked that Ghost was included in the scene too, and Edd realizing that he could get the wildlings to help. The other part with Castle Black, the Melisandre revelation was also pretty good. For a moment there, I rolled my eyes, because I thought it was just more gratuitous nudity, but it paid off.

Cersei: I mainly liked Lena Heady’s performance. Jaime was ok.

The “meh” parts:

·         The Boltons: the conversation between daddy Bolton and Ramsay was not bad, but it was kinda screaming at the audience to pay attention, because after five seasons, there may still be confused people about how laws of succession work, and who is who.

Margaery’s imprisonment: not much here, just a reminder about her status

Arya: I liked that she is forced to learn how to cope with her blindness, and liked that her training is continuing. I didn’t like that the training had to happen in a public place. WTF, these people are supposed to train assassins.

Jorah and Daario: okay, this could have been terrible, because I knew they were going to find the ring, and I thought it will be stupid; but they saved the scene by showing the trampled grass, in a circle, so I suppose it wasn’t all bad. And the dialogue between the two wasn’t bad either, but I didn't fully pay attention to it, so I could be wrong.

The bad parts:

·         Tyrion and Varys: okay, I like these two, their conversations are often good, and this one wasn’t bad; more of an introduction for what’s in store for them; but… what the fuck is up with them walking alone in a city that has seen several terrorist attacks in broad daylight, and lo and behold, another attack happens. I mean, these two are supposed to be clever and cunning.

Dorne – no surprise here; everything about Dorne was shit last season, and it was again now; all of those Dornish women are terrible characters, and poorly acted. The coup was bad. (I actually burst out laughing when that shit started going down)There is no way that every single Dornish guard there would be disloyal to Prince Doran. At least a bloody fight between loyal guards and traitors would have been more believable. And why was Trystane still on the boat, and how did those two get on the boat? Weren’t they still in Dorne? This whole sequence reminded me of what I’ve seen in this season of Vikings – a bunch of pointless deaths to close out some plots, because the writers don’t know what else to do with them (never mind that per the books, there was plenty to do with them). I predict that these characters will just become caricature villains, bent on just fucking shit up, and eventually getting killed by better warriors.

So based on all of this, I finally feel comfortable with watching the show, because I am essentially watching a different story. The only parts that I think the show will majorly spoil are Jon and Daenerys.

Does anyone feel like they need a re-read ASAP to cleanse their brain?  I feel a lot dumber after watching this.

I just finished a reread before the season started, don't do it, for your own sanity. It only makes it worse. And this shit is no relation to the books now. The only positive I've thought of is no magic teleporting little finger in ep1!

I'm not a feminist either, but D&D strike me as some of the most misogynistic writers on television who know absolutely nothing about women.

Not true! They know plenty about women. They know that women have boobs and other fun body parts that can be described with vulgar words.

Ok, I guess that's probably the limit of what they know...

What Breakfast at Tiffany's debacle? Im so curious now! I stayed out of buzz around a lot of the cast members not named Sophie Turner or Maisie Williams.

Not really. They killed off the one likable character and increased the focus on the worst part of it.

Ehh they destroyed the real motivation to create a plot with Dorne. All thats left is "plant a Sand Snake in KL" and thats really it. Dorne as an entity is pretty much done.

Why are Tyrion and Varys walking around Meereen without an escort or guards to protect when the Sons of the Harpy are on the loose? They're supposed to be disguised as merchants, but what would that do for Tyrion? He's a dwarf, he was at the fighting pits with Dany, the Sons of the Harpy would recognise him. How in the fuck was the fleet just randomly destroyed out of nowhere? Why didn't Tyrion and Varys of all people hear about or even see a massive fucking fire happening before they came across it? Where are the Second Sons? They captured the Meereenese fleet, they should be protecting it. Where are the Unsullied? They should be keeping the peace. Why would the Sons of the Harpy destroy Dany's fleet anyway? I though they want her to leave and not around to rule Meereen anymore? Destroying her fleet is only gonna keep her there, this makes absolutely no sense.

"Well, she won't be sailing to Westeros anytime soon." More expert foreshadowing by our lord and masters, D&D. Love Varys and Tyrion's casual attitude to the whole situation. "Well golly, would you look at that? It seems we lost our fleet, old boy!". It's almost like they aren't worried because they read the scripts and know that the Iron Born are coming to give them a new fleet.

She's been declining since the first season. I disagree though and think she will get work after GoT. But I doubt her star will ever be larger than it is right now.

Also, Cottontail Teemo or GTFO. :P

To be fair, the material they've written for her has also been drastically declining since season 1. I don't think even the best actors on the planet would be able to convincingly say the nonsense D&D have been giving her.

She was bad in the Terminator and her Breakfast at Tiffany's play closed after a couple of weeks.  She's not a good actress, she is worse outside of GOT than she is in it, which does not bode well for a long and stellar career.  Her next movie is a comedy, if she is bad in that as well, I'd think she's going to be a B movie star doing rehashes of khaleesi until she's too old for it.

No matter how much they want to hide behind Women On TopTM:
Sansa is infantilised: Theon, severely mentally and physically tortured, crossing an icy river that she doesn't want to despite claiming moments ago that she would rather die than be in Winterhell any more. And her forgetting the oath in front of Brienne and having to be reminded by Pod, while she is a Lord's Paramount's daughter, former betrothed to the heir to the Iron Throne, and knows all her courtesies.

Arya is kind of infantilised too if you compare her chapters to Blind Beth, but I guess "nothing is nothing", so she has to do nothing.

Props for Brienne showing some emotion for the first time since season 3?

I don't know how much more sympathetic they can try to make Cersei/Carol, rather than depicting her as the paranoid, evil ruler she is, who does stuff like burning down the Tower of the Hand. But no, she loves Myrcella/Madison, and only now realises the meaning of the prophecy from the S5 premiere, not having a weird obsession with it (and the valonqar bit was never the most important part of it or anything...)

Marg's narrative is more nonsensical than sexist tbh. I'm surprised she is genuinely in prison for perjury and not adultery, since we all know what a Scheming Sexual Manipulator she is.

Dany's is mostly nonsensical too, tbh, it seems they changed the "Dothraki men can rape random non-Dothraki women at will (e.g. MMD in S1)" to "they need the Khal's permission", as a plot device to bring her to the Khal, who didn't know who she was, (the woman whose name is known from Asshai to Oldtown), but immediately knew who Drogo was. I don't think it's really scripted as sexist, though, just illogical.

And Dorne. Oh Dorne. This is the perfect microcosm of the show's faux-feminism. Women kill "weak" men for reasons. Seriously, everything there was so, so stupid, the epitome of anti-logic.
