Darth Sidious
The purpose of the Ironborn is to help facilitate the return of Westeros' true ruler, Daenerys. The Ironborn should serve the same role as the Dothraki, which is to serve Dany in whatever way she requires in order to reclaim her kingdom from the Baratheons and the Lannisters. That is how the Ironborn and the Dothraki will earn forgiveness for their many sins.

I don't get all the complaints about the Ironborn not having any plot relevance. They are the reason why Robb Stark fell. Now the Reach is under attack by them. And they haven't shown their full potential yet. The only regions that had more of an impact so far were the North and Westerlands (the Riverlands, Reach and Stormlands are tied in my opinion).
