Who is the best actor on the series?

The show really does have an outstanding cast! I won't bother listing everyone I think is amazing - most of them have been mentioned already! Personally I think Charles Dance is the greatest actor to grace the show so far; as another poster said, he just IS Tywin. Watching him was an absolute delight. I also agree with the above, that Conleth Hill's Varys is perfect. Not his fault that he's now sat in Meereen, where all good plotlines die!

Emilia Clarke, for me, is a weak link. Not that's she's bad, she's just not on a par with everyone else! Sophie Turner and Kit Harrington probably win the awards for most improved.

Someone who is underrated - probably because he's criminally underused in favour of Ramsay - is Michael McElhatton as Roose Bolton. God that performance was just right, I loved it!!

Coster-Waldau was so good for so long. I hate how they've written his character lately because it's ruined one of the strongest performances in the show.

Chapman has actually done a really good job of keeping as close to book-material Tommen as possible considering the age gap and the fact that he blasted through puberty.

Just some names that havent really been named much.

I absolutely agree with what they've done with NCW, he still is doing an excellent job but I'm disappointed in what they've done to his sudden loyalty to Cersei but we do know he's going to the Riverlands so I'm hoping its because of Cersei he leaves.

Chapman has done surprisingly well, not a superior talent but he does play his part well.

Maisie was perfect through season 4, she's had her ups and downs since then.

Sophie Turner probably, so far, wins the Most Improved award. Her character has developed into unknown territory and she's nailed it so far.

Besides the obvious, well, after reading this thread I didn't think Alfie Allen was as appreciated as I thought but I think he's truly excellent.

Carice van Houten, pulls off crazy, annoying fanatic well.

Barristan, Jeor Mormont, Craster, secondary and tertiary characters I think we're well acted.

My favorite is Alfie Allen who I really start to love during the last seasons. His performance for a real difficult role is really amazing.

NCW, Lena Headey and Carice Van Houten are also doing very great work!

I am not really sure someone mentioned them but I also think Iain Glen's, Michelle Fairley's and Madden's work should not be overlooked.

That's one of the most difficult questions........

We have had incredibly talented actors on the show: Charles Dance probably being the better IMO. (I just can't help but remember John Glover's work on Smallville as almost at the same level). Lena Headey is incredible as her show version of Cersei, Dinklage is a good actor (although the scripts don't help), NCW and GC are amazing when they act together........

But right now, I think Alfie Allen is the best.

Conleth Hill, Stephen Dillane, Lena Headey, Charles Dance, Diana Rigg, Rory McCann and Peter Vaughan have all been consistently excellent.

Michelle Fairley in the RW is probably my favourite individual piece of acting in the whole series. Absolutely haunting! Captured the moment perfectly!

I very much like Natalia Tena, Liam Cunningham, Kerry Ingram, Alfie Allen, Ellie Kendrick and of course Peter Dinklage as well.

Conleth Hill as Varys is the best... by far.

Then there are lots of great actors such as Burn Gorman as Karl Tanner, Ian McElhinney as Ser Barristan Selmy, Liam Cunningham as Davos, Michael McElhatton as Roose Bolton, Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister, Sean Bean as Ned Stark, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister.

Then there are good and decent actors such as Rory McCann as the Hound.

Then there are a few bad actors such as Sibel Kekilli as Shae.

Then there is the worst actress... by far. Emilia Clarke as Daenerys.

However I need to open one paranthese for Aidan Gillen as Baelish. His role is the hardest one to portray since he has to act all the time in the story on top of acting in the show. Acting and sounding different for different situations in the story and going for a more powerful and less subtle character as the story progresses while trying to keep constant creepy villain vibe without going over the top makes it the most complex job for Game of Thrones. So far he's shown a very good job although he went over the top at edges time to time.

If Gillen went for a one dimensional character like Tywin or Roose he would be on the great list too. Let's also add he's the only actor to break the 4th dimesion and look at camera directly to express his thoughts on his scenes.

Back to Conleth Hill, does anyone really think he's not the best actor on the show? I mean, really... His mimics, jests, voice, accent, moves, gestures, emphasis on the lines and words. Almost perfect. I hate he's been reduced to Tyrion's trusty sidekick.

I'm glad Alfie Allen is finally getting some love! His performance in season 2 was already amazing but after Ramsay did a number on him i've been especially impressed, the way he looks the way he's subtly shaking. That's  the good part, it's always subtle. Look at episode 5, he gave that great speech and on first glance, it looks like he's pretty much over what Ramsay did to him, but if you look closer he's just pretending to be strong, it's in his eyes. I have no clue how he does it but he does.... Give this man an emmy, please! That said, i'm a fan of character so I'm probably biased.

other performances that I really enjoy: Sofie Turner, Maisie Williams; NCW, Lena Heady, Peter Dinklage, Charles Dance, Conleth Hill, Michael McElhatton

I agree with you on Emlia Clarke....  I don't buy her performance, her mannerism and way of speaking don't fit  the medieval setting...but then, I'd say the same about Sophie Turner...

Sibel Kekilli is actually an excellent actress, see the movies Head-On and When we leave.

Her not being fluent in english probably gave the impression that her role as Shae was over acted, or something. I don't know what people dislike about her performance, tbh.

I rewatched 'You Win or You Die' yesterday and I had forgotten how amazing Tywin's debut was! Charles Dance was utterly perfect for the role. What an introduction to a character.

I have been really impressed with Carice Van Houten in series six. She has portrayed that lack of confidence and vulnerability perfectly imo.

Tormund Giansbane has the best actor. I personally think that Sansa's actor is a pretty terrible actor in general, I just feel like her acting skills are weak and hard to believe.

I'm a Turkish and Sibel Kekilli is originally Turkish and she was a porn star. Perhaps I have been biased about her performance, I don't know. But her speaking English is simply what you get when a Turkish speaks English. She didn't try to go for a different accent.

To be honest almost everyone's performance has been so far good enough that actors/actresses that don't catch that standard take a little bit harsh critics.

I still can't decide for Sophie Turner. But she definetely has improved over the years.

Lots of people point out that she was a porn star, once upon a time, as if that defines her or gives hindsight on her performance. Her performance as an actress in the movies pointed out above won her two Lolas (german film awards) and public acclaim. She also won the award for best actress at the Tribeca film festival (NY).

She's good at what she does, she shouldn't be remembered for past jobs.

Ned and Roberth and Catelyn was the best actors of the show without a doubt

Lena Headey has atleast been the most consistent good actor. Charles Dance was good for awhile too.

Below them the guy that play Varys and the boy that played Joffey of course, also Stannis.

Peter Dinklage was good in the beginning but has really struggled the past 2-3 season although his lines has also been getting from ok fun to awfully bad.

the most cosistenstensly bad has Sansa (could have done so much with her storyline) and Dany (jesus) been.

(Sandsnakes and Ellaria i dont even Count )
