Mace Tyrell:

He delays, doesn't risk his army and, if possible, avoids battle

Robb finds some hot chick, reneges on his political alliances and ends up betrayed by his own banners.

The Tyrells win.

Or as his mother wanted, ends up boning Margaery and getting hitched to her which might actually make Lord Pufferfish either very happy to make peace or piss him off enough for him to go on the offensive.

This topic is clearly just a set up to say "Robb wins",and how the hell are the Riverlands neutral ground when Robb's own mother was from the Riverlands? Neutral would be Stormlands or Westerlands.

Purely on a military basis, Mace has basically nothing going forward UNLESS you give him his own commanders WHICH hinges on him being lord over his proper realm WHICH means he still has a navy WHICH-

It just goes on and on. Robb had one of the most experienced advisors to call on in Brynden Tully; they knew the ground they fought on and had experience on their side as well. The Westerlands were basically undefended and he had a magical wolf

I love Robb, but let's not romanticize things too much. Yes Robb was a capable company commander had great tactics. Mace is the opposite but it doesn't matter because the man he placed in true command when it came down to it WAS.

The Riverlands are neutral because it has the most neutral geographic area in Westeros

The North is cold and icy which gives an advantage to the Northmen

The Reach has forests, greenery, hills, which gives an advantage to people from the Reach

The Vale has narrow areas, high altitudes, hard to breath etc

The Riverland is the most neutral place in Westeros with regards to climate

NORTH VS. THE REACH

Tale of the Tape

THE NORTH

Rob Stark "The king of the North" Young and well loved. Never lost a battle and has Greywind. His top boys include The Greatjon Umber probably the most badass Northman, he can drink and bang better than even the Dornish. the ultimate wing man at any wedding. Roose Bolton is pretty much the scariest dude besides his bastard son. A couple Manderlys, Glover. Flints and Karstarks that a pretty badass.

THE REACH

Mace Tyrell the oaf but also a veteran of many battles. Hes held Sieges but never taken a castle, He has two sons that are Formidable, Tourney and battle tested GARLAN TYRELL & LORAS TYRELL these two have pretty good odds against any northman one on one. Also LEFT and RIGHT seven foot tall twin guards. His Commander is Randyll Tarly which is a huge advantage considering he is probably the best living military commander in Westeros.

WILDCARDS

The Queen of thorns VS. Lady Stoneheart

The Redwyne Fleet.

WINTER IS COMING

The Riverlands has huge rivers and swaths of forest. Much of the Vale is not mountainous, and of all those regions the Reach has the most open land for two parties to fight equally without interference from land. The North is not icy and cold during the summer and like the Reach has huge chunks of flat unforested land. Your mistake is thinking all of those factors are not important when commanding; knowing the land and using it is key

A man can only yell loud enough to be heard by about 150 people at max, and that's ahorse. There is not all that much commanding being done during a battle without a standard bearer to help you and other people to read your cues, once again meaning a lot of it is about the men under your command.

It's just kind of a silly question is all with so little actual details.

In this situation it's the Blackfish vesus Randyll Tarly, as they are the real brains behind the armies. Robb is young enough to be learning, while Mace is a dunderhead, at least if you believe his mother. I would give the nod to Robb/Blackfish over Mace/Randyll.

Mace seems to be more interested in saving his strength than in actually doing any fighting.

But if you ask me Robb was better tactitian than Randyll.

Dont get me wrong, I really like Randyll, but he isnt as good as people claim he is.

Yes Ashfird was a great victory, BUT his troops were fresh and Roberts werent and Robert did escape so victody is far from complete.

Duskendale was a disaster for him because he had big loses against Norhern infantry and they escaoed again.

Robb and Brynden would take them.

Not to mention half of pretty Reach boys would shit themselves when they see flayed man on banners and shields with words "Our blades are sharp" leading by scariest looking man in Westeros who is so intimidating that people think he is a skin stealing vampire with no other reason.

And yes they have Loras and Garlan but Robb has Greatjon, man who scares even Jaime.

If is Mace Tyrell one who make tactic decisions then I can't think of anyone who would lose from him with even forces. But in potential clash between Northern and Reach army, Mace Tyrell wouldn't be one who lead army. If you put Robb/Blackfish against Tarly/Willas then you have even match and battle would be decided by soldiers, army with battle tested soldiers would win as every time in real and Westeros history. Wildcard Grey Wind tears apart Willas.
