Lady Kitty Heartless
During Bran's talk with Benjen, Benjen told how CotF saved him from wight spell by striking a shard of dragonglass to his heart, just like how they made first white walker. Doesn't that most likely make Benjen a kind of white walker, too? Did he get superhuman strenght? Can he only be killed by dragonglass now? Ludo Kressh
I think he maybe a Walker/human/wight hybrid, but it's hard to say what they are going with in regards to Benjen. He has some magical ability with his flaming flail but what other supernatural abilities he may have remains to be seen.
jugdesh258
D+D did not say he is Benjen returned. He is Cold Hands Benjen.... lol Probably studying at Cold Hands University until summoned in the nick of time by dying or new Three-Eyed Raven
ShadowKitteh
I won't be surprised if it turns out this way in the books, (yes, I know what George said, and that was decades ago, other things have changed in the books since), that Coldhands is Benjen, and the reason we're only getting the latter half of his story, is the same reason we never saw Dany's HotU vision as written (too Red Wedding-and-everything-else-spoilery-visually) and Barristan as Arstan: I recognized it was Benjen in the first scene between his eyes and his voice especially. Why wouldn't Bran know it was Benjen the entire way to the Tree? However it turns out in the book, it's a smart show choice.
Ludo Kressh
^I agree, D&D likes to streamline characters and their arcs and in this instance I think they did a fine job.

They're going with nothing, obviously. They don't even bother having the non-magical parts of the story make any sense.
DanïelNorth
Just a reason to keep him from going south of the wall, as wights can be raised south of the wall.
